  1. I'm scheduled for surgery first thing Wednesday morning and ever since last Wednesday I've been getting more and more anxious each day. It has freaked me out that my countdown is in days, not weeks anymore. My stomach is "ugh" feeling all day long. I'm emotional, feel like crying several times a day, not like myself. My head spins and I think of everything that could go wrong. It doesn't help that I'm self-pay, I keep thinking of long term complications that could happen that my insurance won't cover. I have had no doubts and felt complete peace about this procedure until this weekend. I've been very overweight since I was a child and well over 300 lbs for at least the last 13 years so I know I need this. I'm hoping its normal that I'm feeling this way but it still is no fun!

    I'm tomorrow and I have the same ugh. No joke, I've shed 10 more pounds tonight because of it lol. One step at a time...

  2. Unless its to save my life, I would never let any doctor cut off my stomach. The lap band is reversible and the sleeve is not. Because I plan on becoming pregnant than cutting off half my stomach would not be a good idea. But if it works for you God bless. See ya on the slim side!

    Having the sleeve done in 1 week. First and foremost it's for a better healthy future for me. But secondly, we have tried for 6 years to conceive. I look forward to this happening in the future due to the weight loss.

  4. I am feeling your pain. I am 13 days from having the surgery and I am really struggling with anxiety. I have been telling my friends all the possible negatives and they are telling me to stop reading. I am pretty sure I will make it through the process but I will definitely need some positive encouragement to get there. Good luck and stay strong (mentally).

    Same here! 12 days and I can't sleep every night! Ugh!

  5. Jaime_Boston I don't think I got it. I don't show to have any messages.

    Hmm ok

    My surgeon has done 22 sleeves and over 1000 lap bands. He has a 100% success rate so far with sleeves. Where it's considered the newer surgery, I actually found bariatric surgeons not having extensive experience. TRUST ME , I've been worried - but I'm far more concerned about my weight/health. He's had high success with the other bariatric surgeries. He's the head of the Surgical Weight Loss Specialist of Mass. Do your research and talk with some of his sleeve patients. Today was my pre op and he offered to connect me with some of his first patients.

  6. Had my pre op today. 21 pounds down but he decided he wants my liquid diet to start tomorrow vs this weekend. That's a big of a mental shock but this journey requires flexibility.

    What I learned today:

    * my surgeon doesn't use drains

    * no binding

    * no "clear liquids" stage

    * 2 weeks pre op AND 2 weeks post op = liquids (including yogurts, oatmeal, blended soups)

    * staples removed after 2 weeks

    * surgeon was kind enough to prescribe Adavan for any anxiety night before / morning of.

    So my point is - every surgeon has their own protocol.. I guess no two patients are alike or surgeons!

    Yikes, here we go liquids.

  7. I'm just new at this WLS, had mine 4 days ago and still coping with the whole liquid diet. My question is; when or are green smoothies allowed? Will my new stomach be able to handle this drink 2weeks after? I'm keen to not want to rely on Vitamin tablets or go for vitamin injections...so will I be able to have green smoothies? Has anyone else had them?

    I too am a green a smoothie person and I know my surgeon and NUT mentioned that fruits and veg need to wait a few weeks bc of how difficult they can be to digest. Be careful ! Ask your Dr first :)
