  1. sugar free Popsicles were the big life saver for me. My surgeon sends you home to the pureed diet. My fave pureed soup was Southwest Black Bean Soup (Progresso). I still eat a lot of Beans. Also, premier Protein shakes remain an important food to keep the protein levels up.

    Thanks @beni. the information about lying on my side is, I think, the best information I have gotten since surgery. It really helped me.

    It can't be just me

    I think it changes over time. I am 12 weeks out now. I only like room temp Water, and I'm very fussy about what kind. I also drink Herbal tea, mostly at night. It is easier for me to drink now. It is easier for me to eat, but not a lot easier. It all keeps changing.

    I too, was a Diet Coke addict. After surgery, I tried it. It tasted awful. I'm so grateful I didn't like it, I drink herbal tea now, sweetened with stevia.
  5. getting on a plane without feeling bad for the one next to me, then fastening my seatbelt and being able to pull it tight. clothes. my 63-year-old brother will take me roller blading in Utah.

    To whoever it was WHO SAID: IF YOU HAVE "POUCH PAIN" lie on your left side.... you saved me last night. I woke up with horrible pain. Something must have become stuck. Within minutes of lying on my left side - which points the opening of the pouch downhill!!! - I was without pain and able to go back to sleep. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    BENI: Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing some great things. I'm in California. If you were here, I'd send you to Nordstroms - a step above Macys, a step below Neimans. Real sales women, great bra fitting. I don't think the have it in Virginia. Good luck!

    Layknee: I have had that, but not constantly. I did have a hernia repair with my RNY, though. I'd call the surgeon/staff.

    Having my doubts

    Robin: Only you can know if it is time. But Im going to tell you my own story. In January, 2014 I was in a really good place. I was eating well, too much, but well. I was happy and excited about the surgery. I was passing all the tests. I was headed for a May surgery date. Then, at age 60, I started bleeding. I had uterine cancer and I had to have a hysterectomy and resolve the cancer before I could resume my journey toward my RNY. Then my bariatric surgeon said I had to have a colonoscopy before he'd operate. I had a long wait for that test, so I went to Cape Cod for what I now call my "Farewell to food (month long) Tour. I gained 20 pounds on that vacation. When I got back, I had the colonoscopy and returned to my surgeon. Immediately, they put me on a Protein shake diet and scheduled my surgery for five weeks later. At that point, I really had to decide. I have Type 2 Diabetes, sleep Apnea, High Blood Pressure, etc. Before I went to the surgeon in the beginning, I had decided I wanted to stay alive. At the assignment of the liquid diet for rapid weight loss, I decided I would rather live than die. Those were my choices. Yes or no. I chose yes, started drinking Protein shakes, and several weeks later, I had my surgery. That was October 28. Twelve weeks ago today. I've lost 62 pounds, I'm about half way to my goal. With the exception of about 5 minutes in the beginning when I realized in a big way that I could not eat a real meal, I have not looked backwards, As soon as I lost the first 20 pounds I got it. Pick up a 20-pound bag of groceries. Go to the gym and pick up a 40- or 60 pound weight. Think about how heavy that is. It is such a relief to leave that behind. If I don't lose one more pound (which I will), I will wake up happy that I am 62 pounds lighter. All of my co-morbidities are either gone or better. My A1C is 4.2! I don't have to lean on my grocery cart to make it around the store. I'm pretty sure food was the best friend of most or all of the people reading these forums. Everybody has a story. My story today is that I have diabetic retinopathy, and I have to have surgery or go blind. I had to make a choice - yes or no. It doesn't work being an artist who can't see. So, once again, I choose yes. At the beginning of my journey, I read an article in the New York Times that said only half of the people who go to an introductory seminar about weight loss surgery actually make it to the OR. Right then I decided I wanted a life. You are no better or worse off than anyone here. Just like the rest of us, it is yes or no. With MORBID obesity, that translates to LIVE or DIE.     LisaCO, I think it is 10 percent who gain the weight back, yet those are the stories that people will tell you. No wonder people don't talk about their operations.

    To hospital or not? Help

    I'd call the Doc first, and then go where they tell you. I am far from my surgery center as well, and it is always a great fear that I will have to go there with an emergency. Please let us know how you are doing. There are a lot of us who worry about these events. Hang in there.

    Someone Said To Me...

    I'm mad if they don't say something and mad if they do. The best thing they can say is "You look good." But most people just don't know what to say. Keep going. You're doing great.
  14. At the suggestion of someone on BP, I returned to MyFitnessPal and I am logging everything I eat and drink. I find it really helpful. I still cannot eat very much, and I've increased my calories to 750 per day. I'm diabetic and if I don't eat enough through the day, I really feel depleted. At first I was eating 300-400 calories a day and losing 5 lbs a week. It was too fast.
  15. Immediately after surgery, in the hospital mostly, I was starving. My diet was broth, sherbet and Jello. I live an hour away from the hospital, and the whole way home all I could think about was food. Within seconds of walking in the house, I was sipping on a Premier Protein. The hunger vanished. Since surgery, it was the best meal I've ever had.

    Most people I know don't say. One friend said they think it would be rude. (Like they didn't notice I was fat!!) Then people I hardly know say things like, "So you had your surgery!" Go figure. I'm still in fat clothes, but I'll make it to the regulars one day!

    What causes foaming?

    FOAMING: there are no gastric fluids in our stomachs. if i eat too fast, and don't chew enough, food gets stuck and backs up. the foam, and slime, comes in to help move it along. this from my nut/pa.
  18. My surgeon says to use skim milk as it has the most Protein. 8.4 grams. i don't like drinking skim milk, butI do make tea with it.

    Eating is my biggest problem. I'm trying to eat 700 calories a day. This is not easy. I usually get into trouble when I eat too fast. I don't dump (I often wish I would). But I get foamie and dry heave-ish. I never throw any thing up but slime and foam. How gross. If I eat slowly, I know when Im going to be full. My taste buds have changed so much. I can eat steak if I don't over eat it. I have to say it is my fave. It doesn't always feel the best in my stomach. Soups and crock-pot food go down the best. yesterday I had two oz of sauteed chicken. It was very moist and easy to eat. I still prefer softer foods and soups. I'm having yogurt for Breakfast.
  20. I'm 12 weeks out from RNY. For weeks, I've been doing 15 minute walks 3x a week. This was mostly because I had huge pains in my knees. Now I'm about to hit the gym and pump up the tires on my bike. You will know when it is time.

    I can't say it enough. SMOOTH MOVE Herbal Tea. I drink a cup before bed every couple of days.Yogurt with Probiotics is also good. Jamie Leigh Curtis was right. Prunes, too.

    It is amazing to me how easy it is to forget that I can only eat small amounts of food. One extra bite and I have foamies. I would rather not. One person said she could eat a whole Quest Bar so I decided I'd eat a whole one. That didn't work, and I was in agony for a few hours. I have to stay mindful of what I am doing. I can't begin to say what this group means to me. Thank you so much!

    I put on a pair of yoga pants, size 3x. They were too big, but I left them on. By the time I got to the kitchen, they fell down!
