  1. The two things that are most important to me now are drinking Peppermint Tea everyday and drinking lemon water (½ liter water and juice of one organic lemon) first thing every morning. the peppermint really settles my stomach. the lemon water is a great energizer and cleanser. As time passes (7 months) I realize the absolute importance of drinking liquids to keep losing weight and to keep you from getting constipated. constipated is the worst problem I have had. It is usually because I have not taken enough fluids. also, I use MyFitnessPal to record all of the food and liquids I have in a day. I learned very quickly that I could not remember everything I ate. A diary keeps me honest with myself. good luck.
  2. I'm actually using Bariatric Advantage chewable tablets, not "caramels." But before I started doing these my surgeon had me on the calcium citrate pills that are target brand. They dissolve quickly. Good luck!!

    Food Measurements

In the beginning, I don't think measuring was as important as it is mor me now that I'm seven months out and down about 100 lbs. At first, your job is to get as much food and water down as possible. Your new stomach and your throat are needing to heal. It will be a while. you won't be able to eat very much. Water is probably more important than food. As for scales, get a digital scale that will measure ounces. I'm an Amazon person because I can look at a whole line of things and pick the one that's going to work for me. As for measuring cups, I have one and two-cup Pyrex cups and stainless and plastic sets as well. I hope this helps.
  4. I love getting rid of my fatter clothes. I also really like it when my normal sized friends give me clothes they no longer wear. Congratulations!

    What is pb2?

I mix 2tbsp pb2 with water and eat it with a small apple. It took five months to do this but I have this every night now. It helps with constipation, too.

    Recovery must-haves

Sugar free popsies. Peppermint tea and gum will settle your stomach. Don't buy new fat clothes! You won't be able to wear them in a few weeks.
  7. It is going to depend on your situation. Somewhere in my journey I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I was then asked to have a colonoscopy after my hysterectomy. It was before I was supposed to have one, and I had to wait a few months for the test. It is a real popular test here in Santa Cruz. While in the hospital after my RNY, they drew my blood each day. At some point, I had a chest X-ray, a ct scan, and some other stuff. I went into believing I was pretty healthy. That is the goal.

    Let's talk about EXERCISE!

I have arthritis in my hips and knees. I have been doing water workouts in a heated pool at my physical therapy center. I love this. And the pool workouts have led me to joining a gym where I can also do water aerobics. So now I'm doing five days a week and I miss it when I don't or can't go. This is what works for me. It took me a while to settle into this routine, but it is so rewarding.
  9. Before. I was invisible to people who did not know me. I was just a fat lady. I still want to lose 25 lbs. when I joined the gym, I was treated like a normal person who just wanted to get fitter. Everything is different. I am 61. And my life is unfolding before my very eyes. The best is on its way. I'm so grateful.

    This is SO hard !

I'm in my 7th month. I've lost 90 pounds since I went on the liquid diet. I have had about 30 seconds of regret - it is always followed by a massive dose of gratitude that I'm not carrying around a massive amount of weight that I could not lift. It isn't easy, that's for sure. I could always stand to eat a whole pizza or a half box of pasta. But I have come to love a whole new set of foods. I try to focus on how much better I feel. I'm off my metformin, and my blood pressure meds are cut in half. My life is different in every way. Please focus on the good stuff. It will get better. Keep going.

    Multivitamins

If you take Flintstones, take them 2x a day. I've been fine doing this!!!
  12. Don't forget your charger!!!

    Pizza?!?!

Pizza was my fave. I'm six months out and haven't had any yet. I do hear of people eating the top off the crust.

    Pain

If you had a gastric bypass, lie on your left side. That is the way to urge the food in your new stomach to enter your intestines. It really works. Then, there is throwing up, but I've never thrown up anything but slimed foam.

    Calcium options

My PA told me to buy Target's Calcium Citrate tablets when I told her the chewable a were too expensive and tempting. They dissolve very quickly and don't cost much. And my surgeon suggests Flintstones over Bariatric Advantage vitamins. better to spend the money on new clothes!!
  16. You might be able to eat half a quest bar at a time. They save me white traveling, especially on fly days.

    Dizzy and Lightheaded

Even at 5 weeks your goal is to get as much protein and water down as possible. There really isn't a quota until later. The thing that really helps me, and this is from the very beginning, is peppermint tea sweetened with stevia. It tastes good and calms my stomach. I know what you mean about the egg. I have come to realize that my stomach has always been pretty sensitive. I think I used starchy food to calm things down. Now I use the tea. It took me a few months to not have to think so much about what I am doing. It is not easy what we are doing. But I promise it will not always be so hard. Good luck.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

How far out from surgery are you? I was a total Diet Coke addict before I started on the liquid diet. I tried it about two weeks after my surgery, and I hated it!! now I drink water and herbal tea. The bubbles in soda are said to fill you up faster and, perhaps, stretch your new stomach. I'd rather lose weight than have a diet coke. ????

70 lbs down in 4 months

Sizes drop really slowly at first. Patience is such a hard thing. Don't you wish you could just wake up skinny?

    Vomiting

The best advice I ever got for stomach agonies is to lie on your left side. That way the exit from your new stomach is pointing down and it will pass more quickly.

    What is pb2?

I make peanut butter and have it with a small apple. I use 1 tbsp regular pb2 and 1 tbsp chocolate pb2. I really like it. 45 cal for 2tbsp powder.

No gallbladder BEFORE WLS - A little TMI

I had my gallbladder surgery in 2001. I haven't had one problem. I think they are happier when there is no gallbladder. I have had no problems since the RNY surgery, but I did before.

    Ladies over 50 - bypass

I'm 61! Had my RNY October 28, 2014. I've lost 86 pounds since my pre-op liquid diet and am doing great. I wish I had done it 10 years ago when I first started thinking about it. It is not too late. Good luck!

    Always Gastric Bypass

Delia Street. Right on with the water. I do the same thing with half-litre bottles. I don't always make it to the end, but having the bottles lined up is a good way to go.
  25. I'm just about six months out, and I'm in my first stall. At this point, I'm pretty comfortable with it because I think my body is exhausted from losing weight. I am grateful that i made it into the 100s before the stall happened, however. If I were waiting for the 100s I would probably be singing a different song.
