It seems like that's a reasonable amount. My dr told me my pouch would be the size of an egg. In my mind as I prepare my food I try to get as close to what I think the egg is. I've yet to feel like I was still hungry after eating anything though.
  4. Thank you so much for sharing this info. This is one I can relate to.

April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support

Hi all. New to posting on the post op side, but I see some of my April buddies are here already. Smiles Today, I'm two weeks post op and overall I feel great. Better than I did before having my procedure. My allergies cause me to fight with a great deal of mucus each morning and make me feel nauseated so mornings are touch and go right now. Decaf coffee and tea help me feel better though. At my one week post op visit my dr okay'd me to try some soft foods, but I've felt better with sticking to mostly liquids. I've dumped once, eating a piece of fish when mentally I knew I wasn't hungry. I was full already and falling into my bad habits thinking one or two bites won't hurt. WRONG. Now when I know I'm full I throw out or put away whatever is left. My starting weight was about 299#. Midway through my preop diet I was at 291#. At my one week post op visit I was 272#. Still struggling to get my Protein and liquids in, but making progress.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry about your pain. My incisions, more so the main incision, is more tender than it had been but no swelling or redness. According to my Dr yesterday I'm healing fine. Your mention of a hot seating knife makes me think you should be having the site checked, sounds like you are? Praying that it's nothing serious. *hugs*

Getting my fluids and protein is extremely difficult, but I'm trying. Forcing myself to sip even when I don't want to.

Don't overthink it. Literally, take one day at a time. There's so much to learn and we are all learning from and leaning on one another for support. I don't know you're home situation, but if you can have someone to help here and there you'll be fine. By the time you leave the hospital you should be moving around and pretty self sufficient. My Dr, inspite of my cold, made me get up and start walking that same afternoon of surgery. You'll be fine. You can do this.

Good morning everyone. One week post op (surgery was 4/28) and today is the first day I can actually say I feel good. In fact, physically, I feel better than good. Had my post op visit today and I'm down 18# since the middle of my two week post op diet. I was coming down with a cold day if surgery etc and didn't get weighed before or after. They removed my jp drainage tube which I'm so grateful. Today my surgeon told me don't obsess so much over being exact with eating etc. Be conscious and make good choices but don't obsess (which I'm known for doing). He said I can gradually try soft foods and for me to listen to my body and if my body rejects things then purée and try to introduce something else in a few days.

My incisions are oh so itchy. I'm 5 days post op and go for my post op visit on Tuesday morning. Struggling to get in my liquids and protein. No desire to eat or drink at all. The thought is mentally draining. I did just buy some sugar free Popsicles. It's so easy to lay back and relax so I've been making myself get up and move around. Just came back from an outing to the movies with the kids and a quick trip through Walmart.

My husband cooked and I'm not sure what he cooked, but it smelled horrible. I'm fighting to get liquids right now. Food doesn't appeal to me right now.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Everything went great. Initially there were concerns regarding my cold, but my surgeon agreed it would be safe to proceed. Recovery has been a beast with the nausea and congestion and I'm just now staying awake long enough to communicate intelligently. LOL. Thanks so much for the prayers and support. I think the first 24 hours after were the hardest, but every few hours I feel better and better.

Well, this is it. I'm finally going to bed. Can't believe the time has come. Excited, nervous, and now second guessing myself although I know in my heart that this journey is very necessary. I'll post as much as possible as soon as I can. Praying for the remaining April preop team! May we all have safe, uneventful transitions to the post op side.

Well this is it....I'm about T minus 12 hours before arriving at the hospital. So much to do tonight that I couldn't get to as I was trying to rest to fight off this cold. Silly question....I know they say no nail polish. Does that include toes to?
