  1. That's awesome news! Praise the Lord! I hope you reach goal weight.
  2. As a rule of thumb, for any medical procedure I may do, or medical consultation, I am very honest regarding my surgery. As previously mentioned, there are medications that may not agree with me as a gastric bypass patient. For example, my gastric doctor told me, I am unable to take products that contain ibuprofen. There was even specific medications I should take for the common cold, or even when my allergies flared up. Medical teams having this advanced knowledge, may very well save a life. Finally, per the oath medical professionals take, they are prohibited from discussing treatment/patients outside of the context of care. I hope this helps.
  3. I had trouble deciding as well, I ultimately went with the bypass. I choose the bypass because there IS the limit of the pouch, and trust your body will signal to you when you're near. Should you'll decide to ignore, you'll suffer with dumping syndrome. DS is soo not cool! In time, you'll know your limit. I'm nearly 7 months out, and my doc said I've done extremely well. Best to you.
  4. Hello, I am 36 as well. I had my bypass I March of this year. My SW was recorded at 225. I'm nearly 6 months out and already down to 149. I'm worried losing too quickly! ( who would've thought?!) I see my doc next month and see what he advises. I do have children, and also hanging skin. Because of a heart condition my cardiologist advises against heavy aerobics. I walk a lot! I also lift dumb bells. I'd love to read ways others may be ridding themselves of the saggy skin.
  5. So I'm on week 11 post-op, and I'm down 50 lbs. Some days my appetite is better than most. I eat about 3 times a day, or at least try to. I also find that I prefer iced water, rather than room temp. Occasionally a sf pop. I've not ventured off to juices yet, I tried the Crysyal Lights and found it too sweet. ( a shock to me, I loved sweets!) I switch up my sources of protein because shakes are not all that great tasting, after a while. I also use the bars, 35 grams-- the name escapes me, but I love the one that tastes like a Snicker bar! My job entails a lot of movement on my part, pushing and being on my feet. I get my exercise in that way. :-) I also walk more rather than taking the stairs. I was excited about joining the YMCA specifically to take swimming classes, but my cardio recommends against swimming due to a heart condition that was recently diagnosed post op. He also suggests I avoid most rigorous exercises. I will have another stress test in 2 weeks, hoping that goes well. Overall, I'm super happy over my progress! An added bonus is my 4 year old has told me, "Mom you're not fat!" Hey, I'll take it!
  6. I went through the same thing! Which is why I was reluctant to tell anyone while I was pre-op. My mom learned while I was having surgery, I had my husband tell her. My sis learned through her. Now my mom and sis are among my top supporters. Perhaps they are just worried, the potential risks how you'll do during the operation, and after? Many people hear or read about the risks, and are reluctant to accept it. Give them time. In the meantime, take care of YOU! Do what you need to do to ensure you'll get through this successfully! We are here for support! Best to you!
  7. I am nearly 2 months out (tomorrow will make it exact), and I am down 41 pounds ! My co workers are buzzing, and a few have congratulated me on my loss! Mum is still the word...just not their business! I'm ever thankful for this surgery! Last night hubby and I went for a walk, and he noted I did not complain of being tired, or asking to stop to catch my breath! Lol! Glad many of you al are doing and looking great!
  8. Sorry you experienced dumping, I know the feeling of not knowing quite what to eat after experiencing it. My NUT recommended that brand of Special K, and I've no problems with it. Did you use low fat milk? Have anything alongside the cereal?
  9. Today marks one month post-op for me! All is well, thank God! I'm now coming from my doctor visit. I've moved on to stage 3 with my surgeon's practice. I can now eat solids, introduction of new foods each week. Salads and rice in 2 weeks time. I am down 35 lbs! Looking forward to losing more! Best to all!
  10. I forgot to add, gastric bypass.
  11. Congrats on being one step closer to a healthier you!
  12. Rice. Rice is a staple dish in most of what I've eaten. Coca-Cola. My hubby use to work nights and bring this home, I soon followed his taste in enjoying this drink. Cheddar bay biscuits, do I really have to explain? Key lime pie-yum! I'm learning to enjoy what I'm allowed to eat, and continue working on a healthier me!
  13. Hello. I am 3 weeks post op. The surgery I and of itself was not so bad. I was in good hands with my surgeon and the hospital I had my procedure done. There was some pain, but it was well monitored with meds. I walked much, and drank my water! One thing In my current food stage of purée foods. I thought being able to switch over from liquids to foods that are somewhat solid would be an easy turn over, and boy was I wrong! The body needs time to adjust, as well as the stomach, and even the throat. It's a gradual process. I find though I'm allowed to eat chicken as a soft food I'm unable to get it down. It gets stuck in my throat. I'll add also add, dumping is real! I experienced it the very first day I got the go ahead to begin stage 2. I panicked cause I'm like wth is going on? I kid you not, I was scared, cold, hot, nauseous, and kept spitting, and then there is the intensity of the cramps! I hopped in the shower, which in retrospect was a bad move, and I quickly got out. Lying down for about 15 mins helped much. Lastly, my cycle although it was shorter was quite painful, rendering it difficult to do much of anything! I hope this is a one time thing, and not something I should expect monthly. I hope your experiences will go smooth! Best to you.
  14. Hello all! Excited to find this thread! SW: 225 height 5' 3" CW: 190 GW: 130-ish SD: 3.3.14 NYC!
  15. I'm in the same boat also ! Plus the pain is Unbearable! :-(
  16. Congrats to you! 45 lbs is awesome! Have you got clearance for regular food, I know many practices differ. I am at stage 2, and I only 2 weeks out. When do you return back to work? What will you say regarding your weight loss? I'm not trying to tell my co workers, it's my business. Best of luck to you!
  17. You seem to be getting all your vitamins and liquids in. It's great you felt better yesterday. Being home alone is a drag! I'm in the same boat, home and bored! Try to make the best of it, soon enough you'll be nearing your goals!
  18. My first week was fine! I walked a lot, even went shopping with the hubby. Last week I felt more fatigue and slept a lot! After the kids were off to school I slept til 10 on most days. Perhaps b/c of the protein drinks? My nut said I wasn't getting enough in. It's been cold the past couple of days so I've been in, but I do walk up and down the stairs in my home. How are you with your protein? Vitamins? Water?
  19. Thank you! I hope your surgery will go well on Wed. Best!
  20. Today I am officially 2 weeks post op! Surgery was on 3.3.14. I'm extremely happy I had this surgery! I truly am. My surgery went as well as could be expected, with the exception of my heart. It was discovered I have irregular heart beats. Thank GOD the worse did not occur! Mil had to see a cardio soon after I left hospital, and thankfully my heart is somewhat stabilized. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days. The cardio team wanted me to stay longer for further observation, but i them I wanted to go home. My bp was not high, and the echoiogram did not show anything alarming. My first week I enjoyed the protein shakes, this week though it's a struggle. I have the nectar brand now, and will make a shake shortly. I've moved on to purée foods, oh lala! It is soo not what I expected! Yes I get to be more involved in the eating process by chewing, but I can also say it is becoming more apparent the limitation of my new stomach and what it can hold. I experienced my first ever dumping syndrome, ad the feeling was unpleasant. :-(. Overall I'm 20 lbs down! Woo hoo!
  21. I'm a week post-op and occasionally I feel the same! I'm still on all liquids and do want to eat, but know I'm not fully ready. I can't wait until my doc clears me for stage 2 at the very least where I may at least have purée/soft foods. Hang in there! Think skinnier, healthier thoughts!
  22. Congrats on your surgery! I had mine on Monday too! Glad you found a substitute for the milk. I'm bloated, but it's expected. Besides that, I'm doing well so far.
