  1. What are "the foamies"? I've heard others mention it. I'm guessing the sauce you used may have been the culprit--probably has some type of sugar in it. I've had what I think is dumping syndrome once and I don't ever want to go through that again.
  2. I also have that though I don't remember when it started. I use Selsun Blue shampoo periodically and it really helps. Are you taking Biotin? That is supposed to be good for skin and hair.

    Buffet restaurants?

On a business trip, our group went to a buffet at a Chinese Restaurant. It was HUGE!!! And I was scared! I started out getting some items off the buffet, mostly just protein stuff. And then I discovered that they also had a normal salad bar so I ditched the rest of my food and made a salad of protein and then some veggies. I didn't have a choice of where to eat so sometimes you do get stuck at a buffet. They don't charge less because anyone can say that they aren't going to eat much and they have no way to monitor that. So, as you have found out, sometimes you can order off a menu instead. Or sometimes you just have to deal and do the best you can with what you have.
  4. No, my doc did not take measurements. I didn't even think about it. I guess I didn't even want to write down my measurements at that size anyway. Of course, it would be good to know now. I do know that my steering wheel in my car used to rub against my stomach and now I have about 5 inches of space between the 2!!!! Yay!

    Buffet restaurants?

You will always be charged full price. And it really is in your best interest to avoid buffets. You need to become a food snob! lol

    What if this is it?

Unfortunately, it's totally normal and will happen more than once. When it does, make sure you are still filling out a food journal, drinking lot's of Water, getting a lot of exercise, and following the "drink water 30 minutes before your meal, don't drink anything with your meal, chew a lot and eat slowly, but not too slowly--don't eat longer than 30 minutes. And then 30 minutes later start drinking your water again" plan. Protein first! if you still have room, then have a bit of a carb and some veg. And stop weighing yourself so much!!! lol. At least that's what I was told and it worked.
  7. I don't have a favorite yet but right now I am doing Zumba, weight training, walking and trying a bit of running but not doing great at it yet. Will keep trying though! I actually run (or jog) further than I had expected but still not far yet. Walking is always the easiest, yet effective.
  8. Wow! I could have written that! lol. You sound a lot like me, though I'm not quite in Onederland--just at 200 but I'm at a stall. I have been cheating here and there and need to stop! I wish it made me sick. I would say that we both need to stop the pastries or the cheats and things should start working again. Amp up the exercise a bit more, make sure you get in your Water and Protein. Don't eat too fast, but don't eat beyond 30 minutes either. Don't drink anything with your meals. Someone had suggested having protein every couple of hours--Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. Though I have to say--I'm getting really sick of chicken, which scares me because I don't know what else to eat if not chicken Anyway, not sure if I'm telling you this or myself!! lol Best of luck.

    Roomie

I had to share with a random person. Not sure why she was in there but it was weird. I really didn't like it. Luckily, I wasn't up to talking with anyone and could sleep through anything.

    Water tasting funky

Yes, I did. My nutritionist wasn't thrilled about it and said if you can do regular water, that's best. But she said it at least is a way to get water in. Worked fine for me but don't rely on it all the time.
  11. I don't have answers and have only had my surgery this past January 2014. However, first, I am very interested in the responses. Second, my doctor and others have said that I have a window of about 1 - 1 1/2 years to lose the weight. After that, which sounds like what you are talking about, your body adjusts or something (can't remember the right words). You can still lose weight but it is much more difficult. That's why they want you to go all out and exercise like crazy at the beginning to lose as much as you can in that window of time. This could be similar to what you are talking about. Can't wait to hear other responses.

    Post-Op Sweets

Sugar free chocolate pudding, popsicles, sugar free jello. Don't try cookies or wafers or anything! It's way too soon. And frankly, they don't taste as good as you will remember!!
  13. OK, I will be calling my doctor about this but was wondering what this pain/pinching feeling is. As I go through my day, I feel perfectly fine. But if I press on my stomach near the top right scar, I feel tremendous pain/pinching feeling. It feels like there is a piece of glass that I am pressing on if that makes sense. I also feel it if I am sitting but have to bend over to the side to pick something up (because I swear I'm constantly dropping things!). What could this possibly be? Is it just a normal thing I"m going through? A hernia? To be clear, I had my gastric bypass in January of this year and have been on regular food for quite a while so this is not fresh scars still healing. Did I pull something apart? Also, I started Zumba last week but this doesn't feel like sore muscle kind of issue. Other than that, I feel great. Thanks,
  14. I started working from home about 3 days after surgery. I went back to work after 2 weeks but really could have gone back earlier. You will be tired no matter what so take it easy whether you go back to work sooner or later. I really wish I had gone back sooner--I had just started my job (was also trying to have the surgery between jobs but that didnt work out). I took it easy and can work from home when needed so I felt comfortable going in that following week. But, everyone is different. If you can work from home, that would be great because boredom does set in! lol

    Week 3 plateau?

I don't remember when mine happened but like latido just said, upping your calories helps as does exercise and lot's of water. Make sure to keep up with your food journal--that actually helps, too.
  16. Unfortunately, this is common. You have taken proactive measures to improve your life and they don't know how to deal with it. You are being positive, losing weight, probably happier--you have basically upset the balance! But that's ok. Just know that others don't know how to deal with it. We put people into buckets of how we think of them and that creates a dynamic that we get used to. YOu have now changed that dynamic and they don't know which bucket you belong in now. People get very weird when others lose weight. I have seen it over the years with other people (who lost weight but didn't have the surgery). You will find new friends who won't treat you like that. It will take time but you will do it. And you will be better off! Congratulations on your progress for far and stay positive. Don't hate them but don't give in to their need for you to be like you were. Just do your own thing--go walking at lunch, whatever. I wish you the best of luck.

    Eating out?

Depends. THough I have been either staying away from salads or eating the chicken on it and not eating the lettuce. Peronally, my favorite thing is to order an appetizer for my dinner. Shrimp cocktail works great. Or some edamame. But I also get chicken dish and eat some of it and take the rest home. My nut says that a lot of people get the steak tips because they are easier to see how many to eat.

    Feeling Hungry - WHAT?

No problem. I also only just found that out! From this list of course!

    Feeling Hungry - WHAT?

I thought the same thing at the beginning. I was starving! But that has changed. I'm 7 months post-op and I really don't get hungry like that anymore. It will get better. Meantime, drink lot's of water, focus on protein, eat small bites and chew a lot. Don't drink anything during your meals and wait 30 minutes before you drink anything. And don't take longer than 30 minutes to eat. After that time, the food is starting to leave the pouch and that leaves more room for more food.
  20. Ginger Snaps has great advise! Disregard my answer and let me say I agree with Ginger Snaps!

    Progress ☺️

You look awesome! I take a multivitamin chewable in the morning along with B Complex, Biotin, D3. Later in the day, I take the Bariatric Calcium Chewables and also have the caramel-like calcium things from GNC. All the other stuff is from the Vitamin Shop. I was told to not take the calcium with the other Vitamins. I was told that it is common to lose hair which is why I have been taking Biotin from the beginning. Make sure you are having enough protein--that will help with the hair, too.

"Buyer's Remorse" is common! I had the same thoughts, regretted it, wished I had a chance to "do it on my own" (yeah, hadn;t worked before!), all those things. I'm about 7 months out and those thoughts are gone! I feel great, I'm loving the energy I have now. I've lost about 75 pounds, I can actually cross my legs again!!!! I don't spend as much money on food anymore! Eventually you will come to realize this was a great decision. Just ride the waves of all the emotions, the ups and downs. I think we have all gone through some of this. Now, my biggest regret was that I waited so long to do this. If I had done it sooner, I could have either been down to my goal weight or I could have been even lower because I wouldn't have been as heavy to start with. Life is good! Enjoy! Every day, try to think of at least one positive thought. About anything. And whenever a negative thought comes into your head. Recognize it, acknowledge it, and then replace it with another positive thought. Even if you have to fake it at first. Eventually it will be for real. Sometimes it's even just good to know how often the negative thoughts roll in. ARe you in a support group? That might help to hear other people's take. Make sure to find one that is helpful, not where people are just venting.
  23. tough spot! I agree that if he is sharing his problems with you, on your dime, that is VERY unprofessional. But he did help you in the past so that makes it tough. Since he is a child/adolescent psychiatrist, you may be frank with him and ask him how you can transition out and to find someone who specializes in adults or in food issues, etc. And mention the insurance issue. i don't know how he would feel but it seems he would feel worse if you just stopped going and never mentioned why. Work together to create an exit strategy. I saw a shrink for a bit and it was funny that when I mentioned I didn't have any more money left or insurance visits that I was considered ready to leave. And, wow, $100 for 15 minutes? I guess it's been quite a while since I've been. You may even want to talk to your surgeon or primary care physician for advice, Best of luck!!
  24. I have heard the couch to 5K was great. I'm thinking of trying it. I'm also trying to get ready to run. On my walks I've given it a bit of a try but it feels funny. And I don't like anybody to be around when I try it ! lol. But I have been trying it. I just feel like I can't get my body off the ground so my form isn't great yet. Best of luck. If you are power walking that far that often, I am betting you won't have any problem transitioning to running.
