  1. It's never too late!! Best of luck and congratulations on making a decision. It's a tough decision but you will not regret it (well, except for the first 2 weeks of normal buyer's remorse--lol--that does go away and you will be thrilled!).

    need sugestiones

Can I ask--why are you not taking your Vitamins? This is crucial to your health. Not for weight loss but for your health. It is not optional. Are you just against taking vitamins? Do you not like the flavors? Even though I'm a year out, I still prefer the chewables because it takes the edge off in the morning before Breakfast. It's ok to not like eggs. Not everybody does. But you should be focusing on lean proteins--chicken, fish, shell fish, yogurt, cottage cheese, that sort of thing. I live on the Dannon Light and Fit greek yogurts. It's 80 calories and delish! It's usually my mid morning snack and sometimes my mid day snack. Also, it is very important to keep a food journal. It's magical how just writing down what you eat helps you focus and lose weight. Write down what you eat, or better yet, write down what you WILL be eating for the week and follow it. Track Protein grams (forget about calories!!). Also, track your mood with your meals. That's really important, too. Best of luck.

There is this guy that works on my building

Unfortunately, it is rude. If you already have a friendship with him and it came up in conversation, that's different but if you don't have an existing friendship with him, it's very uncomfortable. It really all depends on how you approach it but like I said, if you don't have a friendship with him and you have no intention of being friends, just for the sake of being friends, then it is rude. It's a tough call because I now wish I had known more about this before my weight got so far out of control!! But, if someone had approached me about it I would have died right then and there of humiliation, anger, and embarrassment!! It's on the level of someone thinking you are pregnant when you are really just overweight! It's humiliating and you can never take that back. If you have no intention of being this person's friend, then don't bring it up.
  4. I really rely a lot on chicken. Cooked every way possible! lol. And edamame if you like that. Its a nice treat and because it is in the pods and you have to squeeze out the edamame from each pod as you go, it helps you eat slower. And most restaurants have it as an appetizer which makes a nice meal if you need to go out to eat and don't know what to eat. Get some edamame and a shrimp cocktail and you're good to go! (regarding relish in the tuna, I wondered the same thing but never found an answer so I did put it in. Just don't overload it. I also swapped out the mayo for cottage cheese instead. And still used relish! It isn't quite a perfect swap but not too bad.

    Gall Bladder

I don't know. I have heard that it is very common for wls people to have gall bladder issues. But I think I have had issues before the surgery but didn't know what it was.

    Gall Bladder

I had wls last January 2014 and am having my gall bladder out in a few days--Monday!
  8. @@Graciesmom04 Yes! THey want an easy answer! I wanted an easy answer! But once I realize there isn't an easy answer, I wanted help. And I should probably rephrase my earlier reply. I don't look at people and want to go tell them about WLS. It's when I think of ME and how happy I am that I have been losing weight (not skinny by any means yet) that I just want to shout it from the mountaintops to anyone who will listen. That's really where my head is.

    Bluesy day

It's all normal!! The depression, the wondering if you're doing it right, the weight loss plateaus, all of it. It's a bumpy ride but you need to relax, follow the plan, and enjoy. Easier said than done of course! lol. Definitely find a support group if you can. Keep a food journal and log your food, count Protein grams, not calories. And add a Mood section next to your foods. What mood are you in, what are you feeling, that sort of thing. You will go through down times, you will go through up times, just keep on keeping on (to quote a 1970s phrase! lol). And exercise! That takes away the blues a bit. I wish you the best--keep us updated. S
  10. Depends on what "normal" is. No, you won't be able to eat everything you used to eat. That's what got you here. But, you will be able to have a wide variety of food that can taste great. If you prefer breads and pastas and pizza, that sort of thing, then you are not going to be doing that anymore. But stick with lean Proteins, some veggies, a small bit of carbs/grains and you are good. Luckily, you can't eat as much anymore anyway. Get a bariatric cook book--they are filled with tasty recipes!

    Hot Flashes and Nausea

Exactly what @@eal098 just said. If I eat the wrong thing, I get hot and sweaty and a bit nauseous. And that is one flavor of dumping syndrome!!! lol. It doesn't happen with all wrong foods, but it is kind of random so it's hard to find a pattern but if you follow the plan, you shouldn't have to deal with it much.
  12. @RJ'S/beginning That was my thought, too. And I am so sorry you had to go through any of that. This is why I don't speak up to people about it unless they ask. It is a very sensitive subject and I don't know how I would have felt if someone brought it up to me. Especially someone I didn't know!!! I think I would have cried for days.

    Depression and regret

Give yourself a break--this is a pretty normal reaction. We have all had buyer's remorse at the beginning but that definitely goes away as the weight comes off and you really start to lose your comorbidities and you can start to do things you haven't done in years. THrow the cinnamon pastry away!!! If you are going to try solid food, it can't be that!! Follow the plan, follow the doctors orders and you will soon start to wish you had done this sooner!!! You are having a normal reaction at the normal time and it will pass. Best of luck and enjoy your journey!!
  14. I know, right? I even have friends that need/want to lose weight but don't know how to get started. They know I have had surgery but they are against the idea. I brought it up once and won't do it again. They weren't offended but made it clear that they won't do it. But it's hard to not say anything! I know that it took me quite a while to get there to accept that this was an option that I would consider. My b-i-l had the surgery and I thought it was ridiculous! But he looks great and feels great. It wasn't until my sister decided to get the surgery that my sibling rivalry kicked in and I decided to do it, too! lol. So childish but I'm so glad!!! But, I don't know what else would have convinced me this was the approach I wanted to take to lose weight. I guess from all the shows on TV (Biggest Loser, Dr. Oz, etc.) where the doctors on there are saying not to do this surgery. I bought into it. As far as the younger girls, you are right. There was always 1 or 2 people that were heavier back then but now a lot of them are. The food in their cafeterias have gotten worse and promote weight gain. I don't know how to make change but I'm sure it can happen somehow.
  15. I don't count calories!! I still count grams of Protein and also try to count grams of carbs and fats though not as successful with those last 2. But I am still careful about them!! Counting calories drove me crazy but counting grams of protein is so much easier, especially since that is my main focus. I have not been following the plan as well as I should and my weight loss has stalled. When I get back on it, it drops again. I need to get back to keeping my food journal, too. All the things that I know I need to do, I had stopped doing and that is when the weight loss stopped. So, I'm getting back on the bandwagon. Because I can eat anything without dumping syndrome, it's a bit more difficult but not impossible. Even though I'm "not following the plan", I actually kind of am just not as diligently as I should. If you eat your protein first and follow the rules (chew chew chew, don't drink with your meals, etc.) you don't really need much else or want much else. I am trying to find acceptable Desserts to have when I need a snack. sugar free popsicles are a great one! Fresh berries work well. And fat free cottage cheese mixed with sugar free/fat free cheesecake flavored Jello pudding, vanilla Protein powder, lite cool whip, and a few tablespoons of skim milk is amazing!!! And you don't need much to be satisfied. Best of luck
  16. Hurt as in pain? I don't know--probably not. Hurt as in damage? Maybe? The one thing to know is to not rush it. As frustrating as it seems, you will actually miss these early phases because this is where the weight is really coming off. Take advantage of that!! Seriously. Try to enjoy each phase to the fullest.
  17. Follow your doctor's orders!!! Your insides are still healing so you don't want to aggravate the stitches or the stitch line. It's really hard and frustrating but you will be glad you waited!!
  18. I can also eat almost anything without repercussions. You just have to be stronger that you had expected to be. Really try to stick to the basics and be diligent. Keep the focus and you'll be great!!!! I'm down about 90 pounds now.

    Weaning off CPAP

I have been putting off another sleep study until I lose some more weight but have been thinking about weaning my self off at some point. To be honest, one of the things I will miss the most and makes the hardest to quit it, is the white noise it creates! It's so soothing. I have napped a bit without the CPAP and it feels weird to not have that noise.

    Weight loss

You are doing great!! Congratulations. You might want to not have crackers for a while though. They are carbs and it is too soon to introduce those into your diet. Focus on protein: chicken, turkey, yogurt, cottage cheese, that sort of thing. And make sure to count your grams of Protein and get enough in every day. in fact, you should be keeping a food journal. There is something magical about writing down what you eat. Yeah, you can think about it in your head and keep track there, but when you write it down, the weight just comes right off! It's weird but true. Best of luck.

    MA - Massachusetts

@@Margie122 I had my gastric bypass surgery at St. Elizabeth's by Dr. Pecquex--first of all she is fabulous!! Top notch! I had also started out at BIDMC but switched over to St. E's. Because I had a lot of the tests done at BIDMC, I think I was fast tracked at St. E's because they could use those results. I didn't have a sleep study done because I am already using a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. But they did have someone come to my house to make sure it is calibrated properly. Also, because I had started with one program and switched over to St. E's I don't have a good idea how long the process is from beginning to end. I can only tell you that for me it took about 3-4 months. I did have to do some of the tests again but it went pretty quickly. Also, the NUT at Dr. P's office is really great. And there is a good support group too. Best of luck. I forgot to add--Tuft's Insurance is often the reason you have to have a longer wait--their requirements are different than most insurance's requirements. So, if they make you do a long diet plan first, it is the insurance companies requirements, not the hospitals. FYI.

    Is it Inevitable

I don't know about the squeeze packets but Biotin is sold pretty much anywhere that vitamins are sold. I've bought it at Shaw's Supermarket, CVS, and Walgreen's.

    Is it Inevitable

I started to go to Beth Israel but then changed my mind. They do have some good doctors and a good program. I just didn't like their NUT and nurse! And the parking there was way too expensive! lol. But they are a good program and will take very good care of you. I know several people who had their surgery there and are extremely happy that they went there.

    Is it Inevitable

@@msmisaacs I am in Hyde Park, right near Dedham. I don't think the shampoo really makes your hair thicker, it just FEELS like it! It's awesome. I would try the Biotin for sure though. I don't think there is any downside to taking that. Where did you have your surgery? I had mine at St. Elizabeth's in Brighton. We have a support group at the hospital twice a month as well if you are ever looking for a group. I don't know if it's just for people who had the surgery there but I could find out if you were interested. Though you have to be prepared for the group--it's mostly about food addiction and not everyone is ready to hear those words.
