Try the unflavored Unjury protein powders to put into soups or whatever. I've heard that quite nice.

Advice about "fullness"
esskay77 replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At some point, whether it is now or later, you will be able to eat quite a bit. But don't. If that means you measure your food, then do that. My NUT told me that feeling full is not the goal and that I really should never feel full. He said that on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being starving and 10 being really full, my goal should be at about a 4-4.5. Just on the hungry side of satisfied. So, don't use feeling full as your measurement. Unless it is because you are too full--then you should stop but don't keep eating until you feel full. (Now I just need to learn to take my own advice!) -
2 wks post rny and feeling like it's a mistake
esskay77 replied to sshield8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We all screw up at some point. You have to give yourself a break but use it as a lesson. Get back on the program and you'll be fine. The first few weeks are rough and all you think about is food. But I have to say, I am a year and a half out and I wish I was back at that stage! lol. I know, I'm weird! But now I think I could do it better. All I thought about was biting into food. Food that I didn't even normally have but sounded amazing. Just ride the wave of imagining it and don't give in. chicken broth really helped me because it actually had that savory flavor that I needed. It "tasted" like real food. And sugar free jello! I put that in my plain FF Greek yogurt or even in my FF cottage cheese to add flavor. Totally helped. Just brush yourself off and get back on the program and you'll do great. -
Congratulations! You'll do great!

3 months post-op. Just ate two slices of pizza.
esskay77 replied to gbveteran4d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been told to not eat white flour or white sugar. pizza and Pasta is made with flour. You MUST stay away from it. yes, we CAN physically eat it and not get sick (some of us anyway). But we can't and don't. When I DO eat pizza, I just eat the toppings but also make sure that chicken is a topping. I keep wanting to type "why are you doing this to yourself" but I have to keep stopping myself because I also occasionally eat things that are bad for me. But when I do, I don't lose weight. Do you want to lose weight? If you do, then you have to change the way you THINK about food and they way you EAT food. You need to start attending support groups as well as find a therapist to work with. This is not easy so any help is good help. BAsically, you are most likely a food addict, as most of us are. Once you (and me, too) learn how to be a recovering food addict, like will be better. But you have to start making better choices. It doesn't matter if you can eat 2 slices of pizza. You just shouldn't. Of course, if you try to use the new recipe that uses cauliflower to make the crust, well, have at it! lol. Google the recipe--I have heard it is great. Best of luck and keep us posted. And continue to keep a food log and be true with it. -
Toothache / Ibuprofen
esskay77 replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you buy some Orajel and rub it on your gums? It numbs the pain. I wouldn't do any NSAID's without dr permission. -
I don't know if it is a stall but it is pretty common to happen around week 2 so don't fret, just keep doing what you are supposed to do and your body will catch up!!

Needing Reassuring
esskay77 replied to jocelyndavisss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@toasty gave some awesome advice! he is totally right--at your age, people are eating the most unhealthy they will ever eat!! The good thing to know is that it is just a phase and eventually everyone tries to change their eating habits to be more healthy. You are too early in this journey to be trying things like oreos, etc. You will have to learn to be a bit more creative to satisfy yourself. You will have to learn that you can go out to eat with people but you can't have just anything. Eventually (but not yet!) you can have a burger, but not the bun. Some restaurants can wrap the burger in lettuce so you can hold it to eat it or you can eat it with a fork and knife. Edamame is a pretty normal thing to eat and is great protein! A cup of chili (make sure they don't cover it in cheese though and no chips with it). Learn to tell them ahead of time to leave those things off because once it is there in front of you it becomes much more difficult to not eat. All restaurants have chicken which is my normal go-to. No Pasta. pizza is a tough one--at work, if they buy food for a group of us, it is almost always pizza because it's so easy for group lunches. I make sure they have some with chicken on it and I just eat the toppings, not the crust. If I go to someplace like Dunkin Donuts, I get an egg sandwich but just eat the egg. You need to become one of those picky eaters! And don't apologize for it. It is difficult at the beginning but you can do it. You just need to be strong and find interesting things to eat that are healthy and fit the program. Luckily Protein is the easiest thing to find at restaurants, though not fast food places. It's just best to avoid those as much as possible. Hard because it's so convenient, I carry a bag of almonds with me, I carry a Protein Bar (that is a Meal Replacement, not a snack--which I just discovered! ouch!), I've actually found hard boiled eggs at rest stop deli's when on a road trip which is perfect! Some good yogurt--Oikos Triple Zero is what the NUT's are now recommending. Best of luck. We are all rooting for you!! -
Anyone else feeling emotional?
esskay77 replied to kmc0812's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there are several things happening here and they are all normal. First, you just had major surgery! Your body is healing, you probably have some pain, some thoughts about why did you do this, etc. I'm sure some of it is hormonal and normal post-surgery stuff. Second, you are making a life change and it's scary!! And it can piss you off every once in a while, too! lol. I miss french fries!!! And that pisses me off. I get pissed off when, once someone hears I am trying to lose weight, they suggest a salad. So now salads piss me off! Totally irrational but that's how I feel (though I DO get salads sometimes but it isn't the only thing I can eat and certainly don't want to eat them all the time). Third, you are also going through some food withdrawal. Probably sugar withdrawal. It's possible that you (I'm using that in general terms, not necessarily specifically you) used food to comfort yourself, you ate your emotions and now you have to FEEL those emotions. Your body is used to having food to handle emotions and now you don't have that and it feels weird. And sometimes we get emotional for now reason and that's ok. lol The good thing is that you are doing great and the more you lose, the stronger you will get. Best of luck! -
Cauliflower crust pizza!
esskay77 replied to loo loo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been seeing this recipe around lately and have been wanting to try it. Thanks for sharing--I think I will try it sometime soon!! Mmm -
It IS hard! Eventually you will be able to eat "normal" food (note that normal is now a new normal, not french fries! lol). I also think you should go with your family. Get the Soup. If you go to an Asian restaurant, the Miso soup or the egg drop soup aern't bad. I think I ate Edamame early on. I would have that as my dinner while everyone ate whatever they ate. Try turning your Protein shake into a milk shake-like drink by putting it in a blender with some ice. Yeah, it's not quite the same but it's the best you will get right now, at these early stages. chicken broth really helped me because it has such great flavor. I would drink that like tea. And, also like above, when you are eating real food (but not for a long time I think) you can have a burger but not the bun and wrapping it in lettuce makes it so you can hold it in your hands and eat it like a burger. I have found a few restaurants who already had that option on their menus. Hang in there. At the early stages, it is tough but once you start eating regular food, it gets easier because you don't feel as much like you are missing anything. You might also want to attend a support group or see a therapist to learn how to handle these things because they will always be there and it's good to get a real handle on it. Best of luck!!

Gastric bypass vs sleeve
esskay77 replied to shay_shay209's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Same for me, I had acid reflux but it is also what my surgeon recommended for me. It is currently known to have somewhat better results, too. Though I have been hearing about a lot of good results with the sleeve so it isn't out of the question as a viable option. -

A whirlwind of emotions
esskay77 replied to kradtke5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Note that nobody is able to get in the amount of protein they first suggest at the beginning. It is just a goal that you will be working towards, not a rule that you have to abide by right now. But I agree, sometimes you just need to have a good cry and then pick yourself up (the next day, not right away) and move forward. Best of luck to both of you. It only gets better. -
Isopure clear protein drinks
esskay77 replied to Sophie74656's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The Isopure drinks are an acquired taste but now I do actually like them. Not all flavors. I like the grape and the Fruit Punch flavors. You just have to realize that they don't taste like the flavors they are. The orange isn't too bad either. If I haven't had one in a while, I have to get used to it again. -
Don't worry about calories yet. Focus on getting in your grams of Protein before you eat anything else! Sometimes you have to increase what you eat in order to lose weight. I know it sounds counterintuitive but it can be true. Maybe don't have the banana but have the nonfat cottage cheese instead. Possibly put in a few berries in the cottage cheese. I think berries would be better than a banana for a while. A little edamame would be a nice snack, too. Nice protein.
-
Yeah, I usually do a mid morning snack of a greek yogurt and a mid afternoon snack of some string cheese or another yogurt or some cottage cheese. I don't think you are getting enough protein in. You could do a protein shake, too, instead of the yogurt. But, as someone else said, try a little more dense protein such as chicken or whatever.
-
I don't know how to get rid of the cravings for crackers! lol. I have heard that the more you "eat clean" the more the cravings disappear. I don't know if I experience that because some of mine is head hunger and that only helps with stomach hunger. Anyway, I find that if I am drinking my Water too close to my meals (before and after) then I get hungry sooner. I need to remember to stop drinking 30 minutes before and until 30 minutes after my meal. That does help me stay satisfied longer. I don't know if that will help you but I know it is true for me. Maybe increase your Protein a tad? Just a few thoughts. What does your day of food look like? That might help us to get a better idea

A whirlwind of emotions
esskay77 replied to kradtke5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is kind of normal. I think the anticipation of losing a lot of weight and changing your life can be overwhelming to start with. Everything about it, the incisions, the insides and what was done with them, what will be yet to come, the different food plans through the process, changing how you eat forever, all kinds of things just make it a bit overwhelming which might make you a bit anxious. You will be feeling a lot of different emotions but soon they are going to change to more positive ones. Try to enjoy the ride. Plan your menu for the week, write it all down, everything you will eat and when you will eat it. Do that on a SUnday. THat way, you don't have to think about it during the week and you will have one less stress in your week. Enjoy! You will be great! -
That. Is when you know it's all worth it! congratulations!
-
I don't know. I was told to not worry about calories but too count grams of Protein (and eventually fats and carbs). So, I have no idea how many calories I take in. Counting calories drives me insane so I'm happy with counting grams of protein., So much easier.

search for "the worldaccordingtoeggface" or something like that for a lot of inspiration and recipes. You can also search on this site somehow for some recipes.
