Unfortunately, stalls are a normal part of the process. But, when one happens, you need to be more diligent. Don't weigh yourself more than once a week Be sure to write down everything you eat and count up the grams of Protein (there is something magical about writing it down that actually helps you to lose weight) Make sure you are getting enough protein in (you probably have to increase how much) No carbs Protein first Chew, chew, chew put your silverware down between bites. Drink lot's of Water but stop 30 minutes before your meal, don't drink anything with your meal, and don't drink again until 30 minutes after your meal, take 30 minutes to eat your meal Exercise. At least walk. Off the top of my head those are the usual things that can help you. It seems like increasing protein is one of the biggest helps. Best of luck (and I'm glad I wrote this because I need to take my own advice!)

Calcium question
esskay77 replied to delibeanjelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing the link!! That was very helpful. -
No, you should not take it ever again. Frankly, doctors are now telling anyone to limit how much you take of it because it can cause problems in general. But, you can take Tylenol. Of course, talk to your doctor for a definitive answer. S

It is NOT a dumb question. I don't know how it works but the new eating plan seems to wipe out high cholesterol. Mostly, I can only imagine, because you aren't eating processed foods, fried foods, carbs, etc. that can cause high cholesterol. I was on meds before the surgery for HC and had crazy numbers. Now, my numbers are great!! and I eat 2 eggs every day which I never did before. lol

People envious of WL
esskay77 replied to QuilterGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I apparently use the word "jealous" like this as well. I didn't realize some people take that as an insult. When I say it, I totally mean that as a compliment. Don't overthink it!! She is telling you that you look great. There may be a small piece of her that is wondering how she can also start to look better to get such a noticeable improvement. It's all good though. -

Driving after surgery
esskay77 replied to citygirl1962's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it was just a few days but I think they suggest a week. Mostly, it was once I was off the pain meds. -
Can you and should you are 2 different things, like mentioned already. I have but wish I hadn't. Once you do, you have broken down that mental rule of not having it and you will allow yourself to have it more often. YOu might get dumping syndrome or you might not. And just because you are fine one time, doesn't mean you will be fine another time. I am pretty careful in public or away from a bathroom!! You need to decide what is right for you.

3 Months out from RNY... Vodka
esskay77 replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the surgeons I have met have said no alcohol. Ideally ever. -
@@MitchieMay Yes, a NUT is a nutritionist! lol. It took me a while to figure that out, too.
-
You should not be worried about calories at all. You should be counting grams of protein. It's easier anyway and more important at the moment! Has your NUT or dr given you how many grams of protein you need to reach?
-
Can you have wheat bread already? Personally, I would do it as a lettuce wrap. But that's because my nut still wants me to avoid any type of bread when possible. Otherwise, it sounds good to me as long as your stomach is happy.

It sounds like you are doing what is right for you and that's awesome. Keep it up and "stay on your own yoga mat." lol. (don't worry what others are doing). If I could eat everything in moderation, I wouldn't have needed the surgery so I have to be careful. Especially for the first year. I think once you are at maintenance, you could ease up a tad but you are so new that you need to really stay focused, just like you are. Keep it up and best of luck!!!

@@sarahbethemails OMG!!!! So good! I did some salt and pepper but I might add some garlic powder next time but it was amazing. I had hopes of really sitting down and enjoying the meal but the best laid plans... lol. Had to take a conference call and eat during the call. But I have leftovers for tomorrow night and can't wait for it. Thanks for sharing!!!

@@sarahbethemails Don't be sorry--it sounds amazing. I'm just really excited to try it tonight!

Peanut butter?
esskay77 replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT still wants me to avoid peanut butter and I'm almost 2 years out. Mostly because of the fats in it though. I haven't tried PB2 yet, though I have bought it. And I don't remember now when it is ok to have that. Someone else will surely know and respond to that. -

7 months out- hit a big wall. Not losing at all
esskay77 replied to mi75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't count calories at all. In fact, they recommend that you don't. Count grams of protein--that is so much easier! And no, you don't need to exercise many hours a day. You should exercise every day but even 30 minutes is good. Depends on what you are doing of course. Don't get me wrong, this can be hard but I don't find it AS hard as dieting before. It still takes work but you can do it and we are here to help you. Best of luck! -
I hope the EGD test uncovers the problem for you. That can't be any fun at all and must be very frustrating. Sorry you are going through this. Of course, you already know this, but because you can't eat, it is even more important to take those vitamins! It won't help with the nausea and pain but should hopefully keep you healthier in other ways. Take care and best of luck

Walking Post Op
esskay77 replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You did a lot! You should be happy with the walking that you did. I didn't leave the house that soon! And I was doing very well, very quickly. Give yourself a break. You had major surgery and are still healing. 30 minutes of walking on day 5 is amazing!!!! -
Why I am not losing anything for two weeks
esskay77 replied to shokoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is normal so you just need to keep doing what you are doing. Though you might want to avoid the peanut butter for a bit. I know it's protein but it is also high in fat. But everything else you are doing is great and your body will catch up again. It's just part of the normal process. There will be many plateaus. -
I put salsa on my scrambled eggs. And I sometimes use it in place of salad dressing on my salad. You can also make kale chips but they tend to be very delicate so might not hold the dip. Sometimes a fork is just perfect.

Change of plans?
esskay77 replied to chasingchloee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You said that if you hadn't gotten the surgery your stomach would have crushed your spleen. So, I think this was a great thing for you to find out now so you never got to that point. I'm so sorry that it will take longer to heal and that you had to take a break on school and work. For now, focus on healing. Eventually, you will feel better. Best of luck and keep us posted. We are all rooting for you
