    Can't meet goals

I don't think anyone at 4 weeks out can get in all the liquid and Protein. I'm surprised by the 100 oz of liquid--usually it's 64 oz. Did someone tell you to drink/eat that much at this stage? The numbers you gave are more for when you are on solid food a while and it takes some time to get to that level. I've never had the foamies but others have and can speak to it. Have you talked with your surgeon? You might want to do that (or the nurse or nut). Best of luck. And pay attention to your body.
  2. Yes, around week 2 or 3 is the dreaded first stall. First of many. Don't be discouraged, just recognize that it is part of the process and keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and you will get through it! Best of luck.

    Exercise Evaluation

@@Elle09 THat's a nice program. I still think it's best when you have the trainer come to you! lol But I like that they have set this up. I just started back with zumba! Good for you for doing it that many times a week! It is definitely a great workout!
  4. I'm in Massachusetts. They have a team--the surgeon, the nurse practitioner, and the nutritionist. THey all work in the same office. I have seen the surgeon a few times but can't usually for my visits because she is usually in surgery. When I first met the surgeon, she introduced me to everyone so I knew up front what to expect. That helps a lot. If the surgeon is available, she does meet with me. And I know that if I insisted, I would get to meet with her for sure. I no longer have to see any of them and am back to my regular doctor now, who will just forward any blood work to them throughout the years.
  5. Definitely see your doctor (at your insistence). I have no idea what could be wrong. I do know that for other issues it helps to have expectations set. I was told up front most of what would be happening and that I wouldn't be seeing the surgeon on a regular basis but would be meeting with the nurse practitioner and the Nut and here is how often, here is why, etc. If you know that up front, it's not as offensive. Same with understanding that even though they are setting the goal of 64 oz of water/fluid a day, they know that you can't achieve that right after the surgery and that it is just a goal that you are trying to reach and that you should eventually get there and stay there. Little things like that. I do remember them telling me that I couldn't drink out of a straw. I thought that meant for life and when I was at the support group meeting (with the nurse present), everyone was drinking out of straws. I finally asked and they said that it was just until you have healed, then you can. Nobody told me that! It's just nice to have all the facts up front.

    Exercise Evaluation

I did not have one of these. It's interesting. To me, though, the difficult thing regarding exercise isn't always knowing what to do, it's finding the motivation to actually do it. Everyone I know has the same problem! For a while, I had a physical trainer come to my house. I did it for several reasons: I'm lazy! but mostly if I had an appointment like that, it's much more difficult to cancel it. It worked out really well. I did stop eventually but am talking with him and maybe starting up again. but, the eval, that's interesting and not horrible. It's just too bad that they don't have an exercise class or a list of trainers that you could hire. That is more helpful than telling you how to exercise (which is still good but just not as good)
  7. @@nicksmommy I went to camp up there on Loon Lake when I was a kid, at Camp Maqua. I'm going to their first reunion of the camp! lol
  8. @@nicksmommy I should also tell you that I lied (inadvertently). I have 1 pair of size 20 and 1 pair of size 18--they are identical and a bit stretchy. I'll be in Bay City from June 18 - 24. On the 25th I'll be in Hale and then head back out on either the 26 or 27.
  9. I have 2 pair of black capri's -- size 20. They are identical (I usually buy multiples!). I will actually be in Michigan in a few weeks but I won't be in Detroit--I'll be up about an hour and a half north. Did you want me to bring them with me and then you find a way to get them? Let me know.
  10. I might--will have to check my closet. Where in MI are you?

    How many calories?

I was told to not count calories, just count grams of protein, carbs, and fat and you should be all set. And it is so much easier than counting calories.
  12. I would say that this is some sort of coping mechanism that he isn't even aware of. I'm sure there must be studies on this or that it has some sort of name. But either way, yes, talk to him about your concerns. One thing to do is just order the one order of food and split that. If he is still hungry, then order something else but most likely he won't. Humans do all kinds of subconscious things that are a bit odd--if you are seeing a shrink or go to a support group, could be something interesting to bring up. I know for me, as the person who had surgery, my head still hasn't caught up! The head hunger or the thought that "this won't be enough food" is bizarre and I fight with it every day!

    Food

Lots of water at this stage!!! Stay hydrated big time. Your tastes will change for a bit and then regulate back to normal at some point for sure. I know that when I got home from the hospital, my nausea went away as soon as I stopped taking pain meds. Best of luck!! Oh, and chicken broth is very helpul at this stage if you like savory.

Going to ask mom to move out

This is fantastic!! It's amazing what happens when we actually communicate! I'm very happy it all worked out.

Going to ask mom to move out

@@WLSResources/ClothingExch I was wondering the same thing. SHe is acting like your kids peer--which is interesting. Does she want to be taken care of? Why is she bouncing around from place to place? It doesn't sound like she wants to be alone--don't get me wrong--this is not your concern and you need to get her to move out for sure. I would also want her to be checked out--she may be depressed, she may have something else going on. SHe may just be scared and lonely but she needs to have a nudge or push to take care of herself on whatever is going on and to get her own place. Does she have an income? I'm so sorry that you have to go through this--it's so hard when it's family but you have to take care of yourself and your kids. Best of luck!!! Keep us posted.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY--you know it best!

So glad you were persistent!! I'm glad they know for sure what the problem is and have a plan to fix it.

I forgot how to use this "tool"... :(

I also agree that the 5 day pouch test is the way to go to get back to basics. I finally decided to try it and I'm on day 4!! It really is a great reminder of how to eat, to be mindful of eating, to plan ahead, etc. You can do it!!!
  18. First -- at this stage, don't count calories, count grams of Protein. That is actually more important. Try to forget about calories right now. Second, I'm not a NUT so definitely ask your NUT for more info. However, I think these are just goals and at Week 3, you probably won't reach those goals so I wouldn't worry too much. Your Snacks should be small snacks, not as large as your meals. If you are watching your protein and counting it, as well as logging it in your food journal, that's awesome. Listen to your body. You should never be "full". You should always be satisfied so if you can't eat a cup of your food for your meal, don't freak out. Third, well, I forgot what else I was going to say! lol Sorry. lol
  19. Quite a few restaurants now have on the menu, a lettuce wrapped burger instead of a bun. I love that!! I have never ordered it but I think the next time I see it, I am going to, just because I love them for doing this!!
  20. I'm always ordering one of the subs or sandwiches without the bun. It seems simple enough but the servers really have a hard time understanding it. The first time I did it, the guy at the counter kept saying "but how will you eat it? Will you eat it like a pancake?" He said the pancake thing enough times that my co-workers (we were at the airport waiting for our flight for a business trip) still tease me about "eating my food like a pancake"! I no longer order rice which is an odd one for me. I find that I don't really like rice but it's a mental thing for me that rice isn't on my plate and I'm not mixing it into the food. Weird that it bothers me. At a really good Italian restaurant in NYC, I just ordered meatballs. Got lot's of weird looks but it worked for me.
  21. @@jaxmom Bwah!!! That is too funny!
  22. @@Katrinakit Mmmmm Salty.... (in Homer Simpson's voice! lol)
  23. I am on Day 2 of the 5-day Pouch Test for the first time! I am doing this in hopes of getting my discipline back. I'm surprised at how well Day 1 went, though I did have a headache by the end of today and still have it now. and when I thought I was hungry, i knew it was mostly head hunger. I'm going to power through today knowing that I can have pureed foods tomorrow! Boy does this bring back memories!! lol I say this because I used some of what you were all saying when I was at the grocery stores on SUnday, buying foods for this week. I was able to say NO out loud to most foods that seemed to be beckoning me. I did buy sugar free popsicles and sugar free fudgicles but that was in the book as something to do. And it really saved me! I even made Jello. I never do that and was surprised at how tickled I was to make it and then eat some because it brought back a lot of cool memories of my childhood. The pre-made jello never did that for me. Anyway, thanks for the advice on some of this stuff!!
