nervous i need insight
newlysleeved replied to covered jewels's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on 2/5/2014. And I still have a lot of pain. Especially on the left side where they did almost all the work. Some people heal fast and some people you never know until you have the surgery. It wasn't an easy surgery. My husband had to help me with everything. -
How long before driving?
newlysleeved replied to Jaime_Boston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When you are completely off the narcotic pain medications is when it's safe to drive unless instructed by your dr. Otherwise. -
Any RNs out there?
newlysleeved replied to karensdRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would defiantly get a dr. note, but I believe your employer has to let you have your water with you. I have a hard time getting the water, but they do allow me to have my water with me. -
Any RNs out there?
newlysleeved replied to karensdRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took FMLA and I had 2 weeks of PTO. I ended up taking a week and half off. As to FMLA without PTO. you just don't get paid but you are still granted FMLA. if that makes any sense. I suggest to take as much time off as you can. I am 3 weeks post op and I can't bend over to help pt. that are in bed. By 8 hours I am so sore and i am ready to lay down and take a pain pill. There is no way I would be able to work 12 hours. Some people recover faster than others, so you never know how your body will feel after you go back to work. I wish that my dr. didn't release me to go back to work yet. I was lucky and my job allowed me to be on light duty for a week. If you can take of a month or more to let your muscle heal. We use them a lot. -

I am a big fan of unflavored protein and I add it to my soups. There is a protein shake called premiere protein it's 30 gms of protein in one shake. Herbal life sell protein flavor mix that add to your water like crystal lite. It has little calories and 15 gms of protein.

Does anyone still have a lot of pain 3 weeks post op. my surgeon said that it should get better in a week that was last week. I am starting to get concerned with how much pain I'm in. I can't bend down and pick something up off the floor. And I have to be really careful when I am getting up and down out of bed or a chair. I starting to wonder of there is anything wrong with the muscle.

Thank you for responding. I was sleeved on 2/5. I feel much better now. I was starting to think something was really wrong. I was noticing that people were nuancing back from the surgery rather quickly. A little reassurance goes a long ways.

7 days post op with lots of mental hunger
newlysleeved replied to 1215sf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I have the head hunger. I eat sugar free Popsicles. I know that some people get nauseated when they eat something cold. But I works for me. I can chew the Popsicles and not feel full afterwards. -
I know the Dr. And the seminars tells you that you will be emotional and have lots of different feelings. I thought I knew what to expect, but I am much more emotional than I thought I would be. The thing is I knew that I was making the incredible change, but I never thought that this was going to be as hard as it is on my husband. Taking care of me since my surgery has been a struggle for him. And he is so afraid that I am going to eat something that is not recommended for my transition to each phase. He is also afraid that something terrible will go wrong with my sleeve. I am worried to, but he is more so. I am not sure if the reason why he is so worried and frustrated because he has not read enough on the gastric sleeve or maybe I am not educating him well enough. Any thoughts? I wanted to go through this process for a lot of reasons, but one of my main reasons was for him so I can have a healthier life. I have found that we are bickering or arguing a lot more lately and it all comes down to this change. Will these emotions between us go away? All I know is at this point he makes me cry sometimes and I make him frustrated.

I had the same problem. I actually stopped eating. The stool softeners were all the other stuff wasn't working My Dr. recommended an enema. I went to the store and got a Fleet enema. They are easy to use, but they are uncomfortable. You have to hold the liquid in 1-5 minutes. Then you will be able to expel the fluid and it begins its magic lol.

My answer to that is when it's not pain full. I am 13 days post - op and I still can't turn over to my side I tried pillows, but it's just not going to happen for me.

When will the GAS STOP?
newlysleeved replied to Claybuster51's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It took about a week before I was able to work the gas through. Walking and gas x helps. But I found when my back hurt because of it. My husband would rub my back and it would help pass it through. Hope this helps. -
Is this normal?
newlysleeved replied to Ready2tryagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I received my surgery date. I decided what food that I absolutely need to have before my surgery in I my personal experience bing eating before surgery was a no no. Because after my surgery it make it extremely hard to stay with the all liquid diet. Although tonight I let chocolate melt in my mouth with out chewing it (I feel very ashamed). But I also have one more day to go on this phase. Binging before my surgery. Wanted to carry on after my surgery. -
I can't wait 3 more days of liquids. I can not wait for purée food. I will have to say that these last few days have been really hard to stay on liquids and jump to purée foods. Beside the muscle pain I have been able to tolerate liquids fairly well. Although I did learn the hard way that drinking a protein shake in the car while you husband is driving is not a good idea. I thought I was going to loose my lunch. I was so nauseated.

Hi all, I am 8 days post-op. surgery date was 2/5/14. And I will tell you holy crap I was in a lot of pain for the first 7 days. Although the pain hasn't magically stopped now it feels more like I did an extreme Ab workout. Is any one else sick of liquid protein shakes? I know I am! I used to think yuck apple sauce now I am thinking yum apple sauce and I am going to eat the crap out of it. Lol. It may sound strange, but I miss chewing. I am finally starting to be able to take a little bigger then just a sip (thank goodness) I have found it really hard not to gulp my water especially when I am really thirsty. I also have found it difficult to quench my thirst because I get so full after just a few sips.

YES. I had back pain for the first 7 days. Mine was because of gas. So I had to move around and rub the spot that was hurting to help move the gas through. My dr. Suggested gas x or something like that.

Regarding protein: I use the premiere protein shakes. They have 30 gm of protein in them and they taste pretty good. The best part is they are pre-made. Also I have unflavored protein powder and I add it into soups. I know every program is different but on the liquid stage I am allowed soups with no lumps or chunks. So I got tomato bisque soup, roasted pepper with tomato bisque and Summer squash soup. I also know that there is isopure liquid drinks that you can get to achieve your protein needs. Milk if you can tolerate it. Some post op diets allow jello mine dose not but that is an option with unflavored protein powder. Hope this helps.
