Young People : Did you get approved

I just turned 27 when I got banded last August. My BMI was over 40, I have a history of high blood pressure and I was almost 150lbs overweight (started at 297). Best of luck to you! Just never give up!

    Need Opinions Quickly...

Thanks Ladies, I went ahead and had it done today. I did it w/o CS, with just the local. It wasn't bad I was very comfy for a couple minutes when my right leg did stupid things because of nerves, but it was okay. He did mention something about me having a 40% chance of needing back surgery in the future.. I do plan on finding another doctor, he sucks.

    Need Opinions Quickly...

Okay here's the story.. (not Lap Band related, but need help) Everyone knows my problem with my back. Today it honestly feels better. I went to the Ft. Worth Zoo and walked around for 2 hours, it only bothered me during the time I sat in traffic for 4 hours. I went to the doctor he told me I needed and MRI, got the MRI then he told me I had a herniated disc and suggested the pain relieving anti-inflammatory shots in my back. He made it sound like no big deal. I agreed. I know I'm stupid for not asking more questions, I was in pain at the time and he made it sound like nothing. Called back to see when it was going to be and they tell me I have to go to a SURGICAL Center. I'm like why? Isn't this done in office, they said no, they have to have the Fluro (X-Ray) Machine that is at the Surgical Center to do this. Nurse calls today telling me not to eat/drink after midnight, I'm like why?? I'm not having surgery. She said they were going to do Conscious Sedation and that was part of the anesthesia procedures. I have an intense fear of aneshesia and I refuse to sign the papers for any type of sedation, I would rather have the pain. My question is this: Has anyone else had this done (Injections in spine or other) and did they do any type of sedation? Did they give you a choice?? I've had CS once and it mortified me when I realized that I had no memory past getting the injection. I am a control freak and refuse to give up control of my body unless it is necessary. Thanks!

    Swelling/Water Weight Gain after Surgery?

Sorry you are going through this. Did they give you a lot of IV fluids? Perhaps the IV fluids along with the sodium is the problem. I would definately talk to your doctor about it, perhaps he could give you some Water pills or something if he thinks that's all it is. Take care!

Has anyone tried Xenical for weight loss?

Yeah I wouldn't recommend Xenical. I would recommend finding someone who is supportive of you. One of the side effects I'm sure she didn't tell you is not being able to control bowel movements of grease and slime, it just comes out even if you aren't expecting it. Not a good way to lose weight. If you are considering WLS then you are probably somewhere around 100lbs overweight, Xenical is not a real solution for someone who needs to lose that much weight in my opinion. My advice is to find someone else! Best of luck to ya!

    What do husbands think

Mine has been 120% supportive. He is always telling me how wonderful I look and how much he loves me no matter what. I got banded several months before him, so we are a team now.

Has anyone lost weight but not pant sizes?

I know it can be discouraging, but you have fat in places you can't see, like around your internal organs. Something I have noticed is that I am either losing pounds or inches, but usually not at the same time. I will stay at one weight for a couple weeks and people comment on how much I've lost because of losing inches then I drop 10lbs really fast. Don't give up!!

    Anyone Gain Weight Before Surgery?

    Update on my back...

Well it's official I have a herniated disc and something wrong with another disc above it. I am going to have an anti-inflamatory injection that is guilded via x-ray into my back sometime next week. With the pain I'm in I'm ready to do just about anything. They also want me to go to physical therapy 3x a week for 4-6 wks. That's going to fly like a lead balloon when/if I ever get a job.

    Update on my back...

I'm not sure what the technical term is for them, but I will try to find out for you. I am seeing a spine surgeon, I am pretty sure he is going to do the injection. From what I gather they are pretty expensive as they are doing a pre-approval from my insurance company.

    LAP band to bypass....?

The only reason I would remove my band is if something happened to ME. I know there are many sad stories on here about slippage and erosion, but I know the percentage is small. So far so good with me. IF for some reason I did lose my band, I would have some other form of WLS at the time of removal. I refuse to be 300lbs again.

    Update on my back...

Yeah I've heard that from several people that they help. I am looking forward to having it done. I figure it won't be any worse than the epidural I had with my daughter. Good to see ya on here Ray!
