  1. I am 3 weeks and 3 days post surgery and oh my goodness the emotions have flared. One moment I want to ravish my hubby, the next i can't stand the thought of being touched. I get angry at little stupid things, like my shirt drawer not being perfectly organized. And now the crying, I want to cry more often than i care to admit. Even this post sounds dramatic. Please help me and share your experiences if any with your emotions and your weight loss surgery. I am assuming is hormone related, does it start after week 3, does it end? Thank you all for your support. -Izzy
  2. Welcome everyone, so proud of you all, and looking forward to getting to know you all. Congratulations on a great step for you!
  3. Hello and welcome, I had a lot of test, PET myocardial, EKG, ultrasounds, i have asthma so i needed a pulmonary assessment and pulmonary function test, nutrition classes and a psych evaluation, to name some, it was a lot of tests but honestly i felt lucky to have a such a comprehensive work up, if anything was out of sorts it got looked at and it made me feel better about being able to do the surgery. I was sleeved on 2/4/14 and have had no regrets, I am still wondering how much my life will change, get a little sad that i will not be able to have the same life as before food wise, but quickly realize what a miracle it is to be able to loose weight and get my health back. I have PCOS, Metabolic syndrome, hypothyroidism, asthma, and need to be tested for rheumatoid arthritis. Getting weight off is going to be great for me. As you go through all these test, remember that you are doing this for you. It will take time but it will be great. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your progress.

  7. Yesterday I went for my 2 week follow up. I was excited to remove those staples and to hear what my doctor would say about my weight loss. Well I had an interesting experience. First i did not see my doctor, I did see the nutritionist which was a great help and the nurse practitioner took out the staples (that part was a little painful). But the most painful part of that appointment was hearing that i was not in the weight loss range seen at my two week mark. Apparently people tend to loose 10%-15% and I was at 8%. Immediately my brain went to crazy mode, why did i do this surgery? How am I going to loose all this weight if i can't even do it now? I was crazy? I should eat less? I should walk more? maybe its time to go to gym and work hard? I went crazy and at some point and after telling my husband of all those crazy thoughts, I was reminded of how much I have to work on my mind and not beating me up. Ok so I did not loose within the range but i am loosing weight. And i have been dizzy and weak which has not helped me walk, but i did get good tips to help me feel better and yesterday i walked a lot more and felt better. What a roller coaster i had yesterday. I thought i share this with others to continue to clear my head. -izzy

2 week follow up and mental strength

To deal with my weakness and dizziness at this point i was told to start drinking Protein drink first thing in the morning and to do 10 minute walks instead of longer which drain most of my energy. Day 2 following this advice and its helping a lot.
  9. Welcome home. I am doing better and better each day. I am walking 1/2 a mile and today started tylenol instead of the stronger meds. I also had high glucose level, which worried me but after coming home it was all resolved. (My mother tested me with her machine). looking foward to getting to know you more:) PS. I also started my period and that did weaken me a bit, its still not done but its much lighter
  10. Hello everyone, My nickname is Izzy and I am happy to have found support as my WLS journey begins. I am 36 years old and have dealt with weight gain since i reached puberty. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism, metabolic syndrome, asthma and pre-diabetis. And with all these disorders I never thought I would have WLS. I was naive and thought it was an easy way out. Boy was I wrong! this takes a lot of courage, letting go, allowing support from others and I am sure I will find out what else it requires. Well after battle-ling with severe lower back pain, for 1 1/2 years, that made it hard to enjoy my life as before and gaining 30lbs that took me 4 years to loose, i finally listened to my doctors and decided to do this surgery. Its was a scary and hard road just to get all the tests. Now 6 days post surgery I am so happy and looking forward to a new life. I look forward to learning from others here. -Izzy
  11. Hi Lindsey and survivingsleever, i relate to your nervousness about the surgery and pain. I was brave for quite a while but the night before the surgery it all went away. I had panic and was close to calling off the surgery. My fear was not making it out of surgery. I thought I know I am big and have lots of back pain, but i rather live this way than die in the operating room. Well my husband was able to get me to listen to him and remind me of why i started this journey. After that I calmed down, I was very nervous the day of the surgery, but I saw some of the staff while i was in pre-op. When I was wheeled into the OR my surgery team introduced themselves and told me their roles during my surgery. Then I was told they were going to start the anesthesia and i don't remember anything else until i was in recovery. The pain was very low, first because the anesthesia was still in effect for a day after the surgery, and second because I had pain meds through my IV. Once I was more aware i was given a morphine drip i could control. I truly suggest you use it and not let your pain get too high. If you do you will suffer more than necessary. After the drip i was on liquid pain meds and that was prescribed to me. When leaving the hospital i had to take them every 3 hours, now i am 4-5 hours apart. They did not make me sick and have helped keep the pain down so that I can be a little active. I can walk around the house i aim for 500 steps 2-3 X per day as my pain allows. Today i am using 2lb weight to get a little resistance for my arms. I would advice not to worry to much about the pain, our staff will be very knowledgeable and guide you through this. Focus on staying positive and doing all the doctors say to do. Good luck to you both and looking forward to hear about your experience. -izzy
