    daVinci robotic surgery anyone?

@@Fab@Forty, I'm in North Carolina and will be having surgery on October 31. My surgeon is doing the DaVinci Robotic Surgery. His website has a full write up about it and they explained it to me in detail. Basically, the benefits of robotic surgery is better recovery time, less pain post op, less invasive. I'm excited about it. The doctor is still in control, but the use of the machine gives him better range of movement and a better view, as he can see the surgical area in 3D through the system.

    Post-Op regrets?

I've heard people say that the first few weeks is the toughest, especially the liquid diet part. First time I've read that 6 months is normal. I'm scheduled for October 31st. So excited and also nervous!

    Time off work?

I work in an eye doctors office. My surgery is scheduled for a Friday, so I'm taking that whole next week....10 days total.

    Bariatric Advantage

Bought some chocolate yesterday. Haven't tried it yet, but that stuff is pricy! $60 for that bag I bought! Hope it's good!

    Sushi...

Sashimi is my favorite. I'm hoping post op I can still tolerate it because that's the perfect food to me! Also love the miso soup. Hey, would the miso soup be a good choice for the postop liquid diet?

    Still on the Fence

I've read on here on numerous occasions that GERD is a big side effect of the sleeve. I've also seen a lot of people get revised from the sleeve to the bypass. The band doesn't seem that great. People do have success with it, but I've read where a lot of people also get revisions to it as well. Ultimately, the bypass is considered the gold standard and is the more known about surgery. It's more proven to be able to help improve comorbidities. I weighed the sleeve and bypass (don't like the idea of the band), but ultimately chose bypass.

What surgeon and hospital you using? My surgeon is Paul Enochs at Bariatric Specialists of NC, he uses Wakemed Cary and Rex Hospitals. I haven't chosen - or been told - the hospital I'll be at, but was told I have to pay all my out of pocket stuff up front. I'm assuming I'll get a hospital bill following surgery, but everything else is paid up front.
  11. Finished my final round of preop testing this past week, one of which was my psych eval. My psych dr said that it should be early next week when she is able to get the clearance letter, the final piece, to my surgeon and then I'll be submitted for insurance! Can't believe it's almost time! The only thing throwing a wrench in everything is that I'm supposed to go on a 3 Day cruise the second weekend of October. I'm totally hoping to have surgery before I go but I don't know if that's going to happen. I'm going to ask my surgeon. I'm supposed to be on a specific 2 week diet before surgery so I'm going to do my best to have this surgery quickly, even if it means doing this diet on the boat!

Congrats!! When is your surgery? I was approved today as well! So excited! I wish you best. Focus on the weight first, then worry about skin! That's my motto, anyway.

  16. Great read! I was approved today and have elected RNY. I already suffer from GERD and the rate of how many ppl still have it after VSG is alarming. I'm so excited to be on this journey!

    October Buddies wanted

October here! Got my approval call today and go September 4th for one final informational/planning appt and to schedule surgery. Was really hoping to have it done in September, but I've got a cruise to go on October 9th-12th so looking at having surgery once I come back. Good luck everyone!
  18. https://www.realize.com/do-i-qualify/potential-results This is a good tool to use. Everyone will react differently to the surgery and other factors include how well you follow the post surgery diet plan, etc.

    Sleep Study

That's interesting that they let you decline it. My insurance didn't give me the option, which I'm glad because with the diagnosis of sleep apnea under my belt my surgery is that much more justified. Honestly I'm not excited about the machine they want to give me but I know it's temporary!
  20. I have a BMI of 40 but am so close to the 39/40 cutoff it scares me. I was really hoping to be 40+ for insurance submission but I think it slipped into the 39 range. I do have comorbidities (blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep apnea), but I've been wanting to be at 40 to justify surgery. My surgeon has not yet set a goal for me. At the start I was right around 270. I'm down around 265 but my goal is to be at least 160. I get the same reaction from people that I don't look big enough to have surgery, but in most definitely am, along with comorbidities. Good luck in your process, smiley!

Good luck on your journey! Sleep study isn't bad! Just try not to worry yourself too much like I did.

WLS has made me a judgemental jerk!

Doesn't hurt, either. I'm not trying to hijack this topic into such a conversation, I'm just saying that as a born again Christian, I have a responsibility to at least mention my lord and savior to anyone struggling, regardless what the "medical community" has to say about it. But, I'm not going to shove it down anyone's throat, either. If the OP doesn't want to hear about it, she can overlook my post. I'm not going to mention it on this thread anymore. I'd also like to add that I am sensitive to people with mood disorders. I personally don't suffer from anything, but I know, am related to, and live with people that do suffer from some form of it and I see their struggles. I pray (yes, pray) for them daily and try to support them in every way possible. To the OP, I wish you nothing but the best and hope and pray that you're able to get all this under control and that you live a long, healthy, prosperous life.
