    Compression garments?

I don't wear them. I'm down 102 pounds. Both my arms and my legs jiggle. So why not wear them? Because I figure come summer time it's going to be too hot to wear them and I need to get use to my body as is. In jeans and long sleeve shirts things look fine. And the pants squish in my belly anyway. The only thing I wear that keeps things in place is a sports bra that holds what use to be my boobs.

    Snacks ideas.

Make sure your program allows for Snacks. Mine does not. I'm on a 3 meals a day plan. It's critical you follow the plan given to you by your practice/nutritionist. You will find lots of different things on here.

    Work

What kind of job you have, your commute distance and time in the car, and how many hours a week you work also factor into the equation. If you have the time available, take it. If you don't, you will find lots of people do go back in a week-10 days for desk jobs.

    meat eaters

as you can see from the advice it is all about trial and error. Moist is key. Small bites. Chew chew chew. At 8.5 months I can eat all kinds of meat with relatively no issue. Every once in a while a dry hamburger doesn't feel so good, but that's it. I love salmon. I like good cuts of steak cooked medium that are very tender. Lobster, crab and shrimp all work for me. And lunch meat with cheese is always a good quick protein in my day. Based on my own experience I do better with meat that is fresh. Leftovers aren't my friend. I don't get sick, but I don't necessarily enjoy the experience. I think the reheating process zaps the moisture which does affect the consistency.
  5. I'm 8.5 months out and unfortunately it looks like I can eat anything it want. That for me is a bad thing. I was hoping my pouch would restrict me much longer than this. So know it's up to me. I will not be bringing fudge into the house. I will not stop at the bakery. I will not fall back into the habit of eating out again.
  6. This holiday season has reminded me of a harsh reality. I am an addict. The fact has been lost on me the past 8 months. I've been well behaved and I've lost more weight than I expected or really wanted to. But I got bold the over the last week and tried food that I assumed would make me sick. Like fudge and Cookies. The bad news is I did not get sick and I pretty much learned I can eat anything. This is not good. I had RNY verses the sleeve so I would not revert to my old sugar habit. That did not happen. My little pouch loves fudge just like my big stomach did. I gained 4 pounds this week. In and of itself that's not a big deal because I'm still lower than I had planned to be. It's a huge wake up call that I could put the 100 pounds back on pretty easily. That is scary and sucks!!! I'm an addict. I will always be an addict.

    Calories

I've been trying to slow or stop my weightloss so I'm drinking calories as often as I can. I'm standard at the 1000-1300 range but do go up to 1800 some days. I think calories needs depend on weight/size, activity, age etc. I'm 49, not very active at the moment, and down to 157 (from 260).

    Constipation Club

I am 8 months out. I only go once maybe twice a week. Usually on the weekend. Every once in while I feel constipated and take miralax.

    western Maryland

I too am from Frederick County. I opted for Northern Virginia because Fair Oaks was a Center of Excellence. You don't see the doctor that much so going somewhere our of the area isn't that big of a deal. You should shop around. Don't let distance be the deciding factor.

Instead of bread what to do?

I'm 8 months out and can eat all breads, rolls, wraps etc. I started with saltines. Then I used Fold Its for a bit. Now I can honestly tolerate anything I am in the mood for. I have a sandwich for lunch most days.
  11. I live in Frederick County Maryland but my surgeon is in Reston/Fairfax. I just had my first meeting yesterday. I'm torn between the bypass and the sleeve.

    Do you snack?

Do what your program tells you to do!!!!!!!! Don't compare yourself to people on the board. I am a perfect example. I haven't had a Protein drink since week 2. I am only required to get 35-45 grams of protein a day. That makes people cringe on this board because it's so far off of what other people do. But I'm down 98.5 pounds since my highest in February, and 86.5 since my 4/15 surgery. I do what my practice tells me to do despite what the boards say. It's working.
  13. I'm 8 months out. Have not had a single regret. I only spent 32 hours total in the hospital including pre-op check in and surgery. I was only in my room for 24 hours. I went back to work on day 8. (probably not smart but I did). I had some mild complications with a hematoma over one of my sights, and a slight fever which required some antibiotics. Other than the nasty yeast infection (sorry) it was no big deal. It's surgery. We all need to remember that fact. We each handle it differently and view our experiences differently. I got through mine just fine. Someone else might have faced the same situation and thought it was awful. It's all about perspective. Heck, I had a heart catherization in 2013 and I was not sedated properly. That sucked. My RNY, no biggy.
  14. I am 6 months post op as of 4/15. Down 73 with just 10-15 to go to reach my goal weight. I have been having serious issues with my tailbone. I'm talking OUCH!!!!!! I can't sit for very long which is problematic because my commute is long- anywhere from 2 to 4 hours round trip each day. I drive a nice comfortable car, old but still nice. I've tried the pillows and while those work in my office chair, they aren't so good in the car. Anyone else have pain after dropping their weight? The explanation I was given was that my hips and spine, including my tailbone, shifted to carry the excess weight over the last 20 years. So now the tailbone sticks out due to a lack of fat in the area. While I'm excited there is no fat, the sticking out part totally sucks. I'm told with adjustments and core exercises there is a chance I can relieve the pain. UGH.

    Personal blender

We have a Ninja system. Good price at costco. I don't necessarily use it because of the WLS. My family makes smoothies every day. I am trying to up my calories to level off my weight loss so I will be using it more. I did not buy it for my puree or mush food stage. If that's your only need then it's a waste of money.

    Advice or suggestions?

are you able to drink and get in your fluids? Have your tried different foods?
  17. Dumping is different for most people. Some have severe symptoms, others have very minor ones. It can also be different based on what you eat. In 7.5 months I have thrown up 3x (foamies) as part of dumping. I have had one session where I was sweating and pulse racing, accompanied by nausea and what I would consider flu like symptoms. It took 3 hours for me to feel decent. Now have I dumped more than those extreme cases? Yes I think I have. Some times my nose runs after I eat which to me suggests a reaction. Nothing severe but a reaction. Some times by pouch makes awful noises but I have no ill affects, but still I think that is part of the dumping syndrome. Some times I'm nauseous which too is a reaction to food.
  18. Follow what your practice tells you. I have not had a Protein shake since week 2 and my requirements for daily protein intake are about 1/3 of what you see on this board. That's my program. I stick with it and it's working for me because I have lost more weight than anticipated in 7.5 months. The scale is not your friend. It will make you happy and put you in tears all in the same week. Unless you are on maintenance you really need to stay off of it for your own sanity. The daily weighs are not your friend. The charts and numbers don't dictate success. Some of us will stop before we get there because we want to, or because our body decides to stop. That is not failure. Don't try food just because someone else tried it. Some people can eat carbs galore (like me) and some people will get the foamies every time. Some people can eat strawberries (not me), some people can eat red meat (me), some people can eat fried foods (mostly not me), some people can eat Desserts (I did make mini pumpkin pies with truvia and it was a success- no dumping). My point is that everyone's body and pouch are different. This is not easy. In my opinion it get's easier with time but it's still a challenge. I personally thought months 2-4 were the hardest. I was nauseous and never knew what was or was not going to make me feel like crap. I was also still tired. Now at 7.5 months I'd say I only have 1 or 2 bad moments a month because I know my body and I know my limits. You will sag. Well, most of us will sag. Many will have excess skin. Many will have no boobs. Many will have bones appear in places we didn't know we had them. (OMG my tailbone is a huge issue). Be ready. Focus on health not on looks.

When you're ready to stop losing

This is such a useful conversations for those of us who are not yet veterans! I'm at 7.5 months. I have had the conversation with my PA about stopping my weight loss where I am now despite what the charts and BMI calculators say. Honestly I don't want to be any thinner. I can fit into the pair of jeans I wore when I met my husband in 1985. (boy are they ugly!) I really don't want to lose 10 more pounds just because the BMI calculator says I need to in order not to be in the "overweight" range. She said my body will decide but I can help it a little. My PA suggested more calories in liquid such as a fruit smoothie or Protein shake (I have not used them since week 3). Also a healthy calorie dense snack on days I work out. But I'm still dropping .5 a week and I have given up the hope of wearing my size 12 pants through the winter.
  20. Maryland has state requirements for 6 months of nutrition/diet which often slows people down in scheduling surgery.
  21. I'm now 7 months out. 83 pounds since surgery which puts me at the number the surgeon told me I could realistically expect to lose. My BMI was exactly 40 on surgery day. I'd be good stopping here. I've increased my calories to 1200 and I'm drinking extra calories to try to slow it down. I put on a pair of pants I've been toting around for 30 years. I wore them in college from 1985-1987. They fit, but very differently than before. My ass is now flat, and my tummy is bigger. They are completely ugly so I would never wear them, but at least I could.

    Cereal and milk

I have three fourths cup cereal and one half cup of milk. That does not make my bowl very liquidy. Although I don't drink while I eat, I don't always eat solid food. I eat a lot of yogurt which most people don't use because it is not a solid. So I figured the cereal and milk is no different. I am not hungry at all during the day no matter what I eat.

    Cereal and milk

I eat cereal for breakfast sometimes. It's 7 grams of protein if I don't eat nuts with it. I get more than enough protein daily so the variety in my meals is worth it.

    Corn anyone?

I'm 7 months out. I've eaten it many times.

    Ideal size?

I saw the PA at my practice for my 6 month. She out right said said to ignore the charts and calculators. I am wearing a M top and 12 bottom. I'd love to be done. She said my body will decide when I'm done losing. I hope soon because I think any more weight off will maje me look sickly. I'm 5'6". 165. With the exception of stomach area, I'm very boney now.
