    Stall and side pain

I have some discomfort on my left side and I still have bruising almost 4 weeks out. My doc said blood has pooled there and will eventually go away. The warm/hot part warrants a call to the doctor.
  2. I was allowed 2-3 crackers or 1/2 piece of toast starting day 14. So I use round saltines.
  3. I'm drinking regular Gatorade as instructed by my doc but yes, in most situations it should be G2 or power aid zero.
  4. I'm 3.5 weeks out. I make sure that I introduce new things when I am not at work or going anywhere. My week 2 I could have runny oatmeal and cream of wheat. Both were fine. I could have unsweetened apple sauces, mash potatoes, no sugar added yogurt (I ended up using Yoplait 100 greek vanilla) and cottage cheese (did not try). I was good with all of them and using the baby spoons really helped. Week 3 I added scrambled egg, and canned tuna/salmon. I added a little light mayo and despite the fact that I don't like tuna, they were ok. Week 4 I got to add soft Pasta and did mix the tuna with it which worked well. I also had a perogie since it's pasta and mash potatoes. Flaky white fish is my big addition and I've tried it out several times. Not a big fish fan but trying to make it work. I can also have soft veggies, fruit, Beans etc this week. I'm also eating egg salad and boiled eggs now. And Hummus on a few crackers. My week 4, 5 & 6 are all the same.
  5. I saw my PA this week for my 3 week check up. My belly looks good except for my lingering bruises. I've been given the all clear to exercise and I can also now get in a pool. I like to swim and will be looking for some water based classes as part of my exercise. I am also going to start doing yoga the 1st of June. I've been put on regular Gatorade to deal with dehydration which may be attributing to low BP, high heart rate and low energy. I've been struggling with fluids so this may help.

    Tired

I'm tired too! (4/15 surgery) I make it through my work day (with commute that's about 5 hours right now) but on my way home I am focused on just getting there. Once I'm home, I down for the count. Sometimes I take a nap and I'm still in bed by 9pm. Now, I'm only getting about 25g of Protein and 200 calories. I read somewhere that the energy level can take weeks or even months to return to normal.
  7. I keep hearing so much about yummy soup and I'm so bummed I am not allowed to have any!!! The downside of knowing what other people are allowed to have on their programs!!
  8. This is a great example of who different we are all. I was allowed to eat canned tuna or salmon starting week 2. So for 2 meals a day that's all I have had this past week. I've worked my way up to 2-3 TBSP. I used a little light mayo. Salt/Pepper on the tuna and Old Bay on the salmon. Wayne I wonder if the issue was the mayo. It was probably full fat. And there may have been onions, relish, peppers etc. Tuna salad comes made in so many ways.
  9. I'm only 3 weeks out and feel like a serious couch potato. But my energy is so low and my calorie intake is under 200. Once I get that in check I will be ready to start. I just replaced the battery in my fit. We have TRX system at home that I want to start using. It's a band kind of contraptions. My friend who's the strength training teacher at our local school swears by it. I'm really trying to focus on my arms. I'm not your typical women with nice lean long muscles. I was always very muscular and hope to be again so I can avoid some of the excess flapping.

    New attitudes toward food

We went to clean out my son's college dorm room on Saturday. Of course we hit Outback because at 20, my poor son is just clueless. I packed my yogurt and tuna. They ordered their cheese fries, layered, extra bacon with 2 ranches. I was shockingly unaffected by them. Neither of them order a dinner that I would order so that too didn't phase me. My poor hubby really struggled with his meal because he felt so back that I was sitting there. But honestly, I was not phased at all which really excited me. On the other hand, the previous weekend I had a meltdown over my hubby eating tortilla chips. Go figure. I have been forcing myself to cook for my hubby and daughter to try to desensitize myself to smells and temptations.

    Stomach growls

I am shocked that my little baby pouch is making so much noise. It doesn't seem possible. I'm 3 weeks out today.
  12. MissTrish14 I'm 3 weeks today. Protein has been my big struggle. I was allowed 1/2 scrambled egg, and up to 1/4 cup canned tuna or salmon this past week. Eating "real" food was very exciting. I'm not hungry which is really good. But I don't have much energy and need to get in more protein. I'm off any protein supplements. So my calorie intake has been under 200 daily. I would like to start to exercise but I really need calories to do that. I'm down 18.5 from the morning of surgery. 24.5 from the day I started the 3 day clear liquid diet.
  13. Where are the post-op folks? How's it going? What can you tell the rest of us? You are the explorers of our group!
  14. I know I won't see my surgeon again. My first post-op is at 3 weeks with the PA. She's the one that did the majority of the follow up after surgery, although I did see the surgeon once right before I left the hospital. I think I see the PA at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. Then I see the nutritionist 6 times in that same year period. Some of your medical questions about medicine etc can be handled by your PCP. I know I have to see my cardiologist to make decisions about those medicines. The surgeon won't make those decisions.
  15. I do not have the energy to exercise. I have my 3 week post op appointment on Thursday and I suspect the topic will come up. I'm only getting about 200 calories a day so exercise doesn't seem like a good idea. I guess we will see. I get to add more food at the start of week 4 so that may help get the calorie count up some. I can start soft veggies, some fruit, potatoes, soft Pasta, boiled eggs and egg salad and flaky fish. I'm tired of the canned tuna/salmon!! My goal is to get to 500 calories.

    Fast heart rate

That is really fast. Mine has been between 100-115. Neither my PCP or my surgeon seems worried. It's probably a good thing you have a doctor appointment.

    Any regrets?

I think we all have or will have some moments of doubt. This is no picnic. It's possibly the hardest thing many of us have done. Add to to it low energy, probably not the greatest sleep, and our head messing with us and you've got the mixture for doubt.

    Changing My Attitude

Glo aren't you only 2 weeks out? I had my surgery 4/15 and tomorrow marks 3 weeks for me. Your progress and attitude even better!!! Your are doing great!!!
  19. My nutritionist said no fruity yogurts. I used Yoplait Greek 100 vanilla. It had more carbs than I wanted but I did fine with it. I was on serious antibiotics during week 2 so I had to have yogurt to attempt to prevent a yeast infection. I started very slowly and worked my way up to 2 TBSP at a time. I'm day 20 and struggling with getting in enough fluids. I was never a big drinker. In fact I really only drank diet coke. So it's a struggle. Things must be very cold or I just can't stand it.
  20. Mywishes85 you are a stud getting in that much protein. I'm not getting anywhere near enough protein. Drinks are gross. I'm eating yogurt but that's it. Luckily I can start on eggs, tuna and salmon tomorrow!
  21. Low wen fry really picked a bad day to appear! It's my daughters prom and we are out and about getting hair and nails done. I can barely stand. For the first time since I'm seriously bummed out.
  22. I'm 11 days post op and I'm mostly liquid. When does your nutritionist let you move on to something soft? I'm up to two teaspoons of plain yogurt. I'm taking an antibiotic because I've had a fever so to avoid a yeast infection I'm doing yogurt for me 3 "meals" this week. Have you eaten Jello? That gave me the sensation of eating while being on the liquid portion of my plan. I also like Popsicles because it's almost like a bite.

    issues with protein

Some programs don't allow protein shakes after a few weeks. I only get them week 1 and 2 then I'm done forever. All my protein has to come from food.
  24. I guess I'm 9 days post op. (4/15) I worked 3 short days this week. (I teach college) Probably not the greatest move but I survived. Today I got to add some "food" to the mix. My first "meal" was a teaspoon of unsweetened applesauce. Whoot Whoot! I have had a low grade fever and I'm now on 2 antibiotics. I have a really bad hematoma around one if the incisions on my left side. The mass is the size of a goose egg. My bruising in general has been mind blowing near 3 of my 6 incisions. Plus the 4 places I got blood thinner shots in my bell, my IV location, and my hand where they drew blood. I look awful but luckily I don't feel bad.

    April 2014 Post-op

Is it on the approved things from your nutritionist? Canned soup is very high in fat and sodium. I know it's not on my approved list
