  1. I just saw my PCP this morning, and later in the month, when I'm three months post-op we're running CBC, Complete Metabolic Profile, and a whole bunch of vitamins: B12, D, Iron, K, A, C and others.

    1 Week Stall already!?

It's going to be OK. Your body is trying to figure out what the heck just happened to it! Once it realizes that it's OK, the weight will come off. You're going to be fine! Be well…

    stall and frustrated

Try not to be discouraged. You can push through it! You know you'll be OK after the stall is over! How do your clothes feel? How do you feel (outside of the frustration). I'll wager you feel a whole lot better than you did 4 months ago. You got this! Be well…
  5. I think we all go think those same thoughts when we are considering WLS. It's a tough decision to make, and it's natural to be filled with doubts and uncertainties. There are no guarantees here. It is indeed imperative that you follow your team's instructions. Can you do it? I don't know the answer to that. What I do know is that the sleeve is a powerful tool, and you will lose weight. In many cases it forces one to rethink how/what they eat for life. And if you are able to combine this gift with counseling and a strong support system, you'll be a good place! I'm only 2 1/2 months out, and I don't regret anything… so far. I know that the road ahead will be difficult. And I hope I am taking all the necessary steps now to enable me to be as successful at this as possible. I too was afraid to give up food. I still have those fears. And I have days when I get sad that I can't bury myself in $40 worth of Chinese take-out washed down with 2 pints of Ben and Jerry's. But then again, at the end of the day, those food choices would have buried me… in the ground! All kidding aside, take a deep breath. Read some success stories to get you excited. Talk to your doctor about your concerns if you can. And reach out here, we are here to help and support, no matter what your decision is. Be well…

7 weeks post op - success and struggles

I'm a'scared of the carb right now. My first day on solid foods, my boss bought in pizza to Celebrate (at my request). I had one slice and it sat like a brick. I wanted to take a nap. And it was delicious. But I find I do much better without the white flour stuff. Peanut Butter and nuts are trigger foods for me, so those are no good. But I pack cans of tuna and sardines, Protein powder (stevia sweetened), and occasionally some beef Jerky. Hard boiled eggs are always on hand in the fridge. And I do have baked Beans from time to time. A new love is blending plain greek yogurt and pineapple with a little coconut extract and freezing that in popsicle molds. Be well…

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon

My surgeon was Dr. Christopher Kollar in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. The hospital was Chilton Memorial in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. Dr. Kollar is a General Surgeon with over 20 years experience. He is kind and compassionate. Chilton is a small hospital, and my experience there was great. Everyone on staff was good-natured, attentive and supportive.

    Peanut butter

I also like PB2 in shakes and frozen popsicles. But I have to stay away from regular Peanut Butter. It goes down too quickly, and is a trigger food for me as well. If I had a jar in the house, it would be gone in 3 days. Be well…

    Pureed food ideas? Help!

Scrambled eggs, homemade chicken soup blasted in a blender. My surgeon allowed white, flaky fish so I had lots of that. Baked Beans were also allowed. Do a search for ricotta bake here, I've heard it's mighty tasty! Cottage cheese and egg whites with pickle relish. Be well…
  12. I was lucky, and was able to go back to work a week later. I have a desk job, so it wasn't that bad at all. Be well…

    is this normal?

I had trouble breathing the first week, and found heating pads across my chest and shoulders helped a great deal. I also found that cold beverages didn't go down so well, so I stuck with hot broths, herbal teas and room temperature Water. I know it's hard, and you're eager to get back to a "normal" routine. But don't push yourself too much, your body needs time to heal. You're going to be fine! Before you know it, much of this will be a distant memory. Be well…
  14. Wait, wait, wait a minute!!! Are you saying your stall from February just ended?!?!? Its May!!!! Thats a LOOOOONG TIME!!! Wait, wait, wait a minute!!! Are you saying your stall from February just ended?!?!? Its May!!!! Thats a LOOOOONG TIME!!! No no! Two separate thoughts. My surgery was in February. The stall was these past three weeks. LOL My bad.
  15. I had my surgery on February 24, and just came out of a 3-week stall. It's frustrating, and my scale almost went out the window! Just stay as focused as possible, and push through it. You'll be fine. Be well…
  16. Wow, look at you sexy lady! Congratulations!

    Post-Op Goals & sucesses

I want… To be off my diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol medications. To never have to worry about seats sizes again (go to concerts, movies, fly coach) To wear jeans To wear long boots To buy a pair of Grundens for fishing trips To go for long walks with my dog To have more energy and strength To do a headstand To ride a bike To do a mini triathalon
  21. Quick comment here… you're never too large for yoga. I used to teach modified hatha years ago. I even toyed around with opening up my own studio called "Living Large Yoga" for people who felt they were too big. A decent yoga instructor will know modifications to any pose. I say go for it! Be well…
  22. Greetings everyone, Someone posted about blending greek yogurt with fresh fruit, and I decided to try it. I sweetened the mixture with Sweet Drops Coconut (it's stevia-based and very delicious). It's a little on the high-side as far as carbs are concerned (15g), so I'm only having them once or twice a week right now. But 11g of Protein works nicely! (2) 5.3oz containers of plain greek yogurt (1) cup diced fresh pineapple A few drops of Sweet Drops Coconut flavor Blend in blend, and pour into popsicle molds and freeze! This gave me (3) pops Each: 125 calories 1g fat 7g cholesterol 48mg sodium 124mg potassium 15g carbs 2g Fiber 14g sugar 11g protein

    What was the point?

It's very frustrating, indeed! We all have days when we want to throw the scale out the window. As a matter of fact, that's probably really good advice. Don't go by the numbers all the time. Take a deep breath and repeat after me: The weight will come off. I just need to ride this through. As for the capacity of what you are eating, I too found I could handle more during the full liquids. But I think you'll find that once you start incorporating clean pureed Proteins (e.g., soft scrambled eggs, flaky fish, tuna fish, refried Beans with a little cheese), you be surprised at how fast your tummy will fill up. The same will happen again when you switch to solid foods. Remember to chew. And log everything. Check with your surgeon that 1000-1200 is where you need to be. Hang tough, cookie, you'll be fine! Be well…
