    So hungry

Just a thought...Are you getting enough Protein? In the pureed food stage I pureed anything high protein and that would help the hunger go away. Plus i stayed fuller longer. Canned white chicken with a little cream of chicken, Meatballs with a little spaghetti sauce (no pasta), be creative to shake off the bordom. pureed boiled eggs with mustard tastes alot like deviled eggs... Just a thought and trying to be helpful. The small amount you are eating will not hurt your weight loss. Wishing you the best!!

    hiccups?

I'm guessing it is. I was a burper! LOL I burped unexpectedly for the first 2 weeks. I never was gassy. I am betting this is normal and that is what your body is doing. However, if it is persistant and it worries you, I would ask your doctor.

    Advice to be supportive?

I have bad knees and it was a snowstrom in January when I had mine, so I couldn't walk as much as I wanted to. However, I made it a point that first week to just get up and walk around the house. Even though it was slow, it was movement. By the end of the week I went to the grocery store to get my walking in!! LOL Just doing something, but nothing too straining. Slow and gentle. She will know as she listens to her body. I still can't go to a gym with my knees and back, but they are doing sooooo much better. I use a 6 pound medicine ball in my living room and 2 pound hand weights at my desk at work in addition to just walking. It sounds very low impact, but it is working wonders for me. This is just my expirience. I read where others are at the gym and jogging. That's just not my thing yet. LOL She will know what she is capable of as she listens to her body. I have never felt so in touch with what my body is saying as I am now. Getting your eating under control is enlightening and empowering!! You are doing an awesome thing!!

    Advice to be supportive?

What a good friend you are. Just remind her that any discomfort she may have during recovery is temporary. Just being there for her and encouraging her is huge!! Make sure she sips enough liquids, and follows the doctor and nutritionist instructions and she will be fine. Make sure she has GasX strips that first week. They will help with the bloating from the surgery. Just tell her you understand how hard this is and how proud you are of her. She has just made a lifetime commitment to a new lifestyle. A healthier lifestyle. Support is what comes to mind foremost. I know she has family, but a good friend will be good mentally. May god bless you, and look over her. I wish her great success!

    scale drama

Did I ever!!! I'd weigh twice a day! My nutritionist was not happy that I compared my weight loss to others and let's not mention that I told her I was upset when the scale stays the same for 3 days in a row!! She told me her concern is that I am not fully enjoying the benefits of my weight loss. I told her I look at the big picture..Loose clothing, healthier, walking better, etc... But she said if I truly was looking at the big picture, I wouldn't be emotional over the scale. She told me to only weigh once a week and once a week only! So I left her office 2/21/14 and did NOT weigh until my last appointment which was this past Friday, 3/28/14. I knew I had lost cause my clothes were baggy & people kept asking me how much have I lost...I almost cried when i saw the scale in her office. I was down 25 pounds!!! I must tell you, I DID FEEL REALLY GOOD NOT WEIGHING EVERYDAY. Just not knowing felt strange at first, but I was feeling so good that I was dwelling on my body and not a scale number. I have decided again to go this month without weighing till my next appointment on 4/28/14. I truly am getting the big picture now! Best wishes to you!! Remember, it's just a number. It doesn't measure the important things!

Myth Busting: My Top 5 Weight Management Myths

I thoroughly enjoyed this article. It helped me feel better about my eating choices during my first 2 months. I was recommended after post op to try to eat a little something every 3 hrs if possible to ensure I'm getting my nutrients. I just could NOT eat that often. Nor could I fit in all the portions of fruit, veggies, and Protein requirements with the small amount I was taking in each meal. After protein, I had no room for anything else. I do adhere to a high protein/low carb diet and I only eat when I'm hungry. It's nice to know I can have a carb once in a while in propotion to the protein if I desire. Thank you!!

    The Ghost Sleeve

I personally did notice it when I hit the pureed stage. The more dense or thicker the puree, the more you will notice it. Be sure to listen to your body after every bite. If you even start to think, "Hmm am I getting full?", you probablly are. That next bite will make you feel a little uncomfortable. At least that's how it worked for me.

    day 4 post op

It's probably an emotional eating habit. So common. It's a pattern hard to break, but you can do it. Find a hobby or something to occupy your mind. I used to be drawn to the kitchen when I was not hungry and would eat 2 or 3 different things. Since surgery I try to make it a point to find things to do or dwell on the fact I am full and content. Just recognizing the fact you want to eat when not hungry is half the battle. You have this beat!!! Best wishes for great success.
  10. So excited!! After not weighing since Feb 21st, I went for my 2 mo check up and I lost 25 more pounds!so happy!!

Thank you for the encouragement!!! Rome, my nutritionist suggested I stay off the scale at home since I was obsessing over it. I'd get irritated if it stayed the same 3 days in a row. She told me I would be much happier not knowing a number & just concentrating on how I feel about my health & clothes fitting better. She was 100 % right!! :)

      rome

I am a scale obsessor as well. I think I will bring it to my moms and go there once a week to weigh. My history is getting on the scale way too much, getting discouraged and then giving up rather than trust the process, do the right thing and trust the scale will move. So.....if I don't see the numbers I will be more apt to continue on the right path.

I've often wondered what makes us like that. I know it's just a number but that's always the big question people ask..."How much weight have you lost now?" It conditions us to monitor our weight and we shouldn't... or at least to the extent that we Obsess. : )

Crazy Dad! Dont he know Im almost 40?

Be grateful you are soooo loved! LOL I know it is stressful. I'm 47 and my parents are the same way. Once they see you are ok and you know what you are doing they will be more accepting....But I must confess: We are the parents of a 20 year old daughter and she will ALWAYS be our baby girl.
  14. I was almost 6 mo in the waiting for me as well. Talk to the nutritionist there and see if they will let you "check in" once a month. That's what they did with me. It went okay. As long as I lost something they were happy.(Even if it was only 2 pounds!) That last month is when they kicked my weight loss in gear with 5 protein shakes & 1 protein bar a day!! I don't reccommend starting with that. Do the high protein/low carb and you will be fine until they direct you to do otherwise. Also, use this time to gather as much info as you can on the procedure and post op people. I was glad to have the time so I could be mentally prepared. I think it made a world of difference for me just being in the right positive frame of mind. You will do great!!!

    ONE MORE POUND!

Congrats!! How exciting!! Thank you for sharing! BTW..My nutritionist told me it's not a race. Everyone loses weight at a different rate for all sorts of reasons, rather it be body type or medical issues. I think you have done super! I was estatic to hit the 200's and am looking forward to the day I hit Onederland!!

    Not Enough Weight Lost?

Are you kidding? I would be elated with 37 pounds!! I had my surgery 1/23/14. Mind you I dropped 32 pounds prior to surgery, but the first month after surgery I only lost 13 pounds!! And I did not cheat!! Not even once. I even stayed the same for a week! Everyone kept telling me Wow! Look at you! How much have you lost now?? I hated mumbling 13. My nutritionist was not happy when I asked her about comparing myself to others. So I have not been on the scale since 2/21/14 at my last appointment. I go back this Friday 3/28/14. I was super excited cause I can't wait to see how much I've dropped now. But after reading all these posts about 37-40 pounds since surgery around the same time as myself, I am nervous now. I find myself thinking, what if I only lost another 13?? That would only be 26 since surgery. However, I am going to hold my head high and not dwell on it. My loss is my loss and I feel tremendous and I have been dropping in size!! So be extremely happy with your progress! I am excited for you!!

    BariatricPal: Unified WLS Community

It just seems so obvious to me that this is a site of support and helpful tips. I can't imagine why anyone would want to subject negativity to this community. I personally feel better hoping that something I may have posted or commented on may have helped encourage someone. I agree with PdxMan! People should read this first. It's a shame there's usually a bad apple in every basket. Thank you Alex for bringing such a diverse group who all share a common healthy goal together. I think it's a wonderful source of support and info!!

    Officially in Weight Loss Mode!

Just make sure you are sip, sip, sipping that water! It is hard to get all the protein in. By the time I had protein, there was no room for veggies or anything else. And true, not hungry with all the protein... Just give it some time and your body will start adjusting to the eating changes. I allow myself one snack a day that isn't protein just so I am getting my nutrients. I still haven't figured out how to get the recommended 6 mini meals in. I only have 4 a day but my nutritionist said that is fine. If I ate 6, I would spend my whole day eating!! LOL. Just do what is comfortable for you and talk to your nutritionist if you think you are not meeting your requirements. Are you drinking any protein? Alot of people get it in through shakes.

    Cauliflower recipe question

I recently made cauliflower squares and didn't use any breading. I took a small head of cauliflower, make small "slices", stalks and all. (It gets kinda crumbly on the edges but you will still have a lot.) Cooked them till they were just getting tender. Drained them, drain them really really well. ( that's important). Then I added 2 large eggs, pepper, some Lawry's Garlic Salt, and 1/2 cup of fat free shredded cheese. Mix it all together then spread the mixture in the bottom of a greased cookie sheet pan. Bake at 350 until cheese melts and eggs look thouroghly cooked. Let cool, then cut into 20 nice size squares. The recipe came out to 18 calories per square. I entered my recipe in My Fitness Pal and it broke down to 18 cal, 1 carb, 1fat, 2protein per square. You can dip in pizza sauce or be creative. I put fat free cottage cheese on mine and ate for Breakfast & Snacks for a week! LOL

How Do You Plan Your Meals?

Since I plan my meals the evening prior, I keep a drawer in my refrigerator stocked with 8-10 4oz cups of high Protein foods that I can grab easily for on the go if a wrench gets thrown into my plans. Cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, chicken, etc.. I find that works best for me personally with my work schedule.

This head hunger is no joke!

Everyone misses real food in the beginning. Just stay positive! The fluids are only temporary. YOU are so worth it. Give it a few weeks and you will feel so much better that food becomes less of an importance as you learn to focus your attention on the people you normally ate pizza with. I had to do this with my family as well. It truly has been one of the best things i have ever done for myself. You can do this!
