  1. Is that your weight loss since surgery or does it include pre-op weight loss? I had my surgery one week before you (March 24) and I have lost about 25 lbs. since surgery (plus 12 lbs. on the pre-op diet before surgery.) It feels like it's coming off slow, but an important thing to do beyond weighing yourself is to take your measurements. I can see the results more there. For example I have lost 5 inches on my hips and 4 inches on my waist, that is far more exciting than what the scale says. My clothes are very baggy and I can see the changes in my body. You have to be patient, it's only been 2 months for god sake! Beyond that I think the most important thing to do is to make sure that you are meeting your Protein and Water goals. Your doing great!

  2. I also wanted to avoid artificial sweeteners. I just completed 6 weeks of liquid diet and used Protein powder by Vega. They are Vegan, plant based Proteins. I used chocolate and vanilla Performance Protein. I taste tested a bunch of different brands and these to me were the best tasting and not super sweet. There Vega One product is good too and has more flavors. I found the Stevia taste to be minimal in the Vega products.

A couple of other brands that I thought were pretty good are About Time and Plant fusion.

  3. I'm so sick of sweet everything! I'm 2 weeks post-op and just started week 3 (of 4) of the full liquids stage. I saw my nutritionist today for the first time post-op and I was almost in tears telling her how I could barely look at these sweet things anymore, I need savory! She's letting me puree things like black bean or lentil Soup and make some green smoothies (smoothies with vegetables and fruit. They just have to be blended really fine and I'll be adding unflavored Protein Powder to these new options. Thank goodness, I don't know if I could have made it 2 more weeks as is.!

  4. Crazyjane---I too am constipated. It's been 1 1/2 weeks. Called doctor today and was told I could try miralax. After reading your post I think I will take half the dosage. Don't want to be up all night. scale is not moving and I'm hoping that's why. One month post op appt Monday! Hopefully I can starting having soft foods, purée is getting old!

I woke up one week after surgery nauseous from the Constipation. This is what they told me to take and it has been working perfectly. I have had a bowel movement EVERY DAY since then. I take Metamucil (psyllium fiber) and a stool softener (such as Colace) every day. They also said, if you do that and nothing happens within a few days then you can try a laxitive. But I haven't had to resort to that. It's also going to help if you can get you 64 ounces of Water in.

  5. I'm 1 week post-op and have had no nausea until last night. Everything has been going great for me, no problems until now. Nausea interrupted my sleep and I am still nauseous this morning. I want to try to avoid vomiting, but I'm not sure what to do. I am afraid to eat right now. is there something "over the counter" I can safely take? Does anyone know what this might be/why this happened? Thanks

  6. I know, it's so gross! Of all the research I did before surgery, no one ever warned me about this. It started for me when I was doing the pre-op liquid diet. I'm afraid we may be stuck with it through the high protein/weigh loss phase of our diet. I think when you get to maintenance you can go to a more normal ratio of Protein, carbs and fat, so it should go away. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'd love to hear from some veterans on this.

  7. I was driving home from work the other day when I noticed a billboard advertising "New Non-Surgical Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis!". Great, I thought, I better look into that. About a minute later, I realized, I don't have any foot pain any longer! I don't need any special medical treatment for plantar fasciitis! And maybe I'm going to take these crazy, expensive insoles out of my shoes because I don't need them any longer.

In addition to the plantar fasciitis going away, I have almost no knee or back pain any longer. I can do step routine at the gym and I can feel where the pain used to be, but it doesn't actually hurt. Also, my back is SO much better! I used to avoid carrying a purse, or even carrying my Bible to church, because everything I carried hurt my back. My home life was also really tough because my son is paraplegic, so even carrying him up to bed was awful. Now it's all a reminder of how strong I've become.

I still have mild tailbone pain (coccidinea), for which I've gotten cortisone injections in the past, but it's much better than previous. I feel like I did when I was 35!

    I am truly blessed!

That's great to hear!! I also have Plantar Fasciitis and I've been wondering if it'll go away after I lose enough weight. You give me hope :)

  8. It's been 2 days since surgery and I'm feeling pretty good. The worst part right now is my swollen abdomen. I don't know if it's because of the gas or the trauma of the surgery (maybe both?) but i cannot wait for it to get back to normal. I'm wondering how long that took for others?

I'm doing pretty good so far getting things down. I'm drinking lots of Water, had my first Protein Shake, drank a whole bottle of the Isopure Protein drink and even a little bit of yogurt drink and applesauce. Took all my meds and Vitamins too.

  9. Day of surgery:

I just waked a bunch of laps up and down the hall for about a half hour. Will do more in the morning. Hurtwhen I firstgot out of bed, then quickly was very tolerable. This has been a great day. I hope tomorrow goes as well.

Now I need to chill out and try to get tired. I havent slept yet since surgery. Ive been wide awake all day.

  10. Had my surgerythis morning. Everything went well and I'm settled into my hospital room. The operation took just under two hours. When I woke up in recovery it was like waking from a nap. I had some pain in my stomach. Not horrible, they gave me a pain med in my iv, then I felt fine. I was slightly nauseous, so they gave me a med for that and I haven't felt nauseous since. Then I started getting the uncomfortable gas in your body feeling (which I knew would happen because of the air they pump into your diaphragm during surgery.) It was particularly in my chest. But once again, I told them and they had a med for it! About four hours since those meds, started getting a little pain back. It hurts most when I laugh or get up, but overall I am feeling really good!! I have been wide awake, my family can't believe how good I am doing. Just wanted to let everyone know how it went. Hopefully I don't sound too loopy. I'll update you again soon. Happy to be on the wat to healing!

  11. March 18!

I love my Protein shake - Numedica Slim Fit. All natural, sweetened with stevia, dutch chocolate. 26g Protein

To prep for surgery: I've lined up a family member for the dog to stay with for a week. A dog walker for the second week. I'm deep cleaning my house and will do so again when the date is closer. I'm making homemade stocks so I don't have to use bouillon, and freezing them. I'm making my friends and family aware of what I'm to expect afterwards so they know how to be of assistance to me. I've lined up friends/family to come by each day I'm out of work since my husband will only be off of work the days I'm in hospital. I have help coming over for 2weeks!

Such a great idea to make your own Soup stocks! I want to do that now.

  12. Me too! I'm scheduled for 3/3. I'm 7 days into my liquid diet... already down 10 pounds! Starting to get really nervous about the recovery & when I can eat something other than Protein drinks. Anyone else super grumpy and tired on this liquid diet? I hope my husband is still talking to me by my surgery date. Jk.

My surgery is 3/5 and I'm 6 days into pre-op. The first two days I was super cranky and had to apologize to my husband and kids about a billion times. I'm doing better now but I am sooo ready to go ahead and have surgery. This last week and a half is dragging.

The two week pre-op diet is the only part I'm truly scared of. I've read a lot of people saying that it's the worst part of this whole thing!

  13. My surgery is March 24th.

Right now my main focus is finding some Protein powders that I like. I don't want any with artificial sweeteners or a strong Stevia taste. This limits the choice greatly, but I've found a lot to try. Whole foods was the one place that had a great selection of one use packets. Plus, they have a great return policy. If I do buy a whole tub of something that tastes good to me before surgery and after surgery i no longer like it (everyone talks about how their taste buds change) they said that you can return it, no problem (even if it's open/used) as long as you have your receipt!

I have bought some small dishes, utensils and a divided baby plate that keeps food warm (because we will have to eat so slowly, it will go cold.)

I haven't been on any kind of pre op diet yet so for the next 2 weeks I'm going to work on eating healthy small amounts, practice eating with out liquids (to me, bar far the hardest part of this whole thing), practice eating extremely slow and chewing my food really well. Then in 2 weeks I have to go on a 2 week pre-op diet. The exact details of which I have not found out yet.

I am also working on a motivational board of photos to look at as I go through the more difficult parts of this journey. It will have pictures of things I want to do a lot more of when I'm lighter like golf and swimming as well as photos of healthy looking women at a goal size I'd like to be and of course some pics of cute fashions I will finally be able to think about wearing. The day I can't shop at Lane Bryant because I'm too small to fit in the clothes, is a day I will greatly celebrate!!!!!!

Very excited about the opportunity to get this life changing tool!
