  1. All of a sudden it hit me right smack in the forehead that I am having this surgery tomorrow. And for the very first time, I am scared. Up until right this minute, I was confident in my decision, and excited about it. WTH happened to me? So I ran to my computer and posted this. Hoping for some friends to make me less scared. What if something goes wrong? What if What if What if? Is this normal? I have scared myself silly!
  2. Well, here is my two cents for what it is worth. I agree with everyone that you need a second opinion. I actually went to a surgeon about 3 years ago thinking that I wanted the band. He told me that I should absolutely have the bypass and wouldn't even discuss the sleeve with me (maybe it was too new?). So I started on all the pre-op stuff, and then one day I just decided that I didn't want him deciding for me. I wanted to find someone who I could work WITH, not a dictator. So I left, never looked back, and eventually found the surgeon who will make me a new person tomorrow. So so so glad I waited! Check out your options. Please do that for yourself. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide!
  3. Someone just told me that their husband (who had a bypass 10 years ago) really liked the Isopure drinks at GNC. I looked at them online, and they are pricey, but it seems like there are good flavors and they are clear, almost like colored Water. I want to try some, but I am a little gun shy after having bought a bunch of powders that are awful tasting. So I thought I'd check in with my sleeve buddies and see if anyone had gotten them, and how they taste. Oh, it's day 4 of my liquid pre-op diet, and I am down an unbelievable 11 pounds. I'm shocked by that. Is this normal?
  4. I am so sorry for your devastating loss! There are no words to make it better. Just keep your eye on the end result, and keep plugging away at it. You CAN do this!

    getting sleeved 2/24/14 !

Best happy wishes to you! I am on tomorrow too! I wasn't nervous until about a half hour ago, and now it's starting to creep in. Just a little bit. So many things on my mind that I just have to push the negative thoughts aside and concentrate on tomorrow. I hope you have a very easy, very successful surgery.

    getting sleeved 2/24/14 !

I am on for tomorrow too! I hope there is a lot of room on that loser's bench! I couldn't agree with you more. The liquid thing is so old already, and I am going to be on only clears for 2 weeks post op. Then a week of full liquids. UGH! But I will do whatever it takes. Best wishes to you tomorrow, and see ya on the other side of that bench!
  7. Survived my liquid diet and the bowel prep!!! Down 13 pounds since starting liquid. Today is clear only and it is a bit hard but determination and keeping busy seem to be helping. Tomorrow is my big day! Very excited for this journey to take the next step. At times it felt like it was never going to happen. But here I am! YAY! A little bit nervous but mostly determined, so I guess that is good. Will post updates.
  8. Awesome! Best wishes to you! Keep me posted!
  9. I went for my PAT's this morning at 7:30. Finally left at 11:45 - I'm exhausted and overloaded with new information! That was an intense 4 hours, but everything was perfect, and I am cleared for my surgery on Monday! WOO HOO!!! I am SO doing the happy dance right now!!! Now all I need is my time to be there, and I'm all set! So so so happy!
  10. I think I like them because they aren't as thick as most of them, and they don't have that awful aftertaste. I got samples of strawberry Mousse, Caribbean something, fuzzy navel, and vanilla bean today. But their chocolate truffle is absolutely delicious as far as I'm concerned! Have you tried that one? YUM!
  11. I don't think I am going to try them. I found Syntax Nectar and really liked some of them. They are a thinner texture and I actually think they taste pretty good. My dietician let me try some samples today at my pre-op appt and they were yummy.

    Fear of Failure

Oh my goodness - you are SO not alone in these feelings. I think that way almost all the time! My surgery is the 24th (only 6 days away), and I have this terrible fear of failure. The only way I ever lost weight was when Phen Phen was on the market. I lost 90 pounds in no time flat, but over the years, it slowly came back plus more. So I have failed many times. Weight Watchers, Atkins, calorie and fat counting....you name it. Some of the threads on here scare me to death when I read them. I just tell myself that every person reacts differently, and that I will forge my own success. I have to. I am so over being fat. Something has to happen, and I can't do it by myself. I am so glad I found this website - I just try to stay away from the negative threads. I am starting my life over at 53, and I can't wait! I had a very long discussion with my surgeon, and together we decided on the sleeve for me. But I still have moments when I wonder if I shouldn't be doing the bypass. So try to remain positive, and I wish you the very best. You will succeed at this - we all will!
  13. Thanks everyone! I am just looking for a different flavor. I am already sick of the shakes. I think they are all pretty yucky. But I am gagging them down since I know it is only temporary. SF jello is my new best friend at the moment. And I will try adding the syrups and flavorings. Great suggestions! Many Thanks to all of you!
  14. Thank you everyone! I'm not sure what I will do, but I really appreciate your input! I'm really having a hard time choking down Protein shakes.

    Clear broth?

Yep, you can have them! And a very kind person on here gave me the idea of straining regular chicken noodle or vegetable or beef Soups and just drinking the broth from that. I checked with my nutritionist and she said that was fine as long as the broth was clear. Wanton Soup is ok to do that with too. Just an idea for you - I can't get plain broth past my nose.
  16. So I have to start my liquid diet tomorrow, and I am kind of worried about being hungry. I can have 3 Protein shakes a day for my meals, and then sugar free drinks, skim milk, sugar free popsicles, chicken, beef, or veggie broth. If I could do this easily, wouldn't I be thin? I have worried more about this than the surgery. LOL! Somebody please tell me that it isn't so bad! I wish I could have a lean protein dinner like some of you guys are allowed! I have to admit that even just typing this out made me feel better and more confident!
  17. I am having a real problem with what I'm allowed to have for pre-op. broth makes me gag, and I can't even stand the smell of it, the Protein shakes are kind of icky, but I can at least get them down. I figured out putting cinnamon, nutmeg and a little vanilla extract actually makes the vanilla ones taste kind of ok. I'm not hungry, but I am starting to stare longingly at food. I won't do it, but I sure do want a bite! Will this ever end??? I emailed the dietitian and asked her if I can strain all the solids out of Soup and just drink that broth. At least that has some flavor to it. And I can actually manage to swallow it. And I can't exist on Jello and popsicles alone. Just venting here.
  18. Same here SweetSophia! And I absolutely can't STAND broth! Just the smell of it makes me gag. So I'm stuck with Protein shakes (3 a day), jello and popsicles. Blecchhh!!!
  19. I have this killer headache today. It is day one of my pre-op diet, so maybe it is from no caffeine? Tylenol hasn't helped it at all. Has anyone else had this? So far, I haven't minded the day - no hunger, so that is good. If I could just get this headache to go away!!!
  20. Aunt GG

    Headache Anyone?

Thanks guys! I hope it is gone tomorrow!
  21. Thanks SuperFab! I will start looking for those. They can't possibly all taste as disgusting as the one I have here.
  22. Well I just choked down my first Protein shake. It was disgusting. I added black cherry kool aid powder to it, and that made it a little bit better. I think the kind I bought was just a bad taste. And I have a big container of it. UGH! Oh well, will keep choking them down. Whatever it takes, right?
  23. Oohhhh they sound wonderful! Thank you so much for that!!!
  24. I am scheduled for the 24th. Started this process back in September, so I have had a while to get ready. My liquid diet starts tomorrow, and that has me freaked out much more than the surgery. I don't know why. Best of luck to you, and please keep everyone posted as to your progress! Will think of you on the 27th! Maybe we can compare notes!
