  1. Thanks Kim...I will think of your words when I am struggling with staying on liquids and having doubt.
  2. Thanks for the advice Debbie...it does make me feel better to hear you say that it will be a slow process...I have given up in the past because of no results, but if I don't have the preconceived notion that I will lose fast, then hopefully I will be able to stay focused on the change of lifestyle and end goal versus the immediate remedy. Thank you!

Just for the fun of it......

I did this too and you are right, the most offensive form of desperation to lose weight that I had ever tasted. I was supposed to do it for 21 days...more like 21 hours for me.
  4. Congratulations on your upcoming date shondel ...I am new to this forum too...and am happy to read encouraging words from people like BrantS. Makes me realize I am not alone in the things I feel with my upcoming surgery.
  5. Maybe I have lost it, but when I read these words, a tear rolled down my face...it was exactly what I needed to read...thank you so much. This journey is turning pretty emotional for me, which I am not accustomed to, as I have always done my best to stay level headed. Thank you again for reading my post and taking the time to respond so graciously.

    Good day.

    So happy for you!
  7. Hi everyone...I am new here and have read many stories about their long journey to the band...I have the opposite and am wondering if I should worry that I won't know enough come surgery? I had my free consultation on January 23rd, which turned into having my physical same day and scheduling my surgery February 14th....I have read the Lap band book front to back and have been reading online forums, but am worrying that I should know more...any advice is truly appreciated.
  8. Nice chatting with you too...definitely let me know when you hear about your date, so I can cheer you on! Best of luck to you too!
  9. My suggestion is to post a new thread asking about the insurance process to help you feel better about it or see if there are some other threads with this same concern...maybe do a search on "too long" or "insurance process/timing." I wish I could shed some more light, but I didn't have the benefit of insurance for this procedure....so sorry.
  10. Keep your chin up..probably has way more to do with the red tape with your insurance then it does with your surgeon. It will all work out and this will just be a blip on your radar when you are post op and feeling like a new you!
  11. My understanding is that you do have a much longer wait than self-pay because it's a process with insurance....good news is that it is much less out of your pocket vs. what I have to pay. :-)
  12. Are you going through insurance? I am self-pay, so that could be the difference...also, where are you doing it, if you don't mind me asking? Could be a higher demand in your area?? Just throwing out ideas...
  13. I know how you feel, which is why I made myself commit at first consult and paid for the physical same day! (I am also self-pay) I am so lucky to have found this forum because it makes me realize that this is not the same for everyone and I will have to respect my band and keep learning on my journey. Best of luck on yours!

"Food jail" - what a great way to put it...that's where I am at right now, for sure...looking forward to 'escaping.'
  15. I really appreciate your sound advice...I will definitely do my best to respect the band.
  16. Great point...maybe I should be more thankful instead of worrisome!
  17. Great point! I definitely like that it will be so easy to remember and gives me two loves to celebrate every year!
  18. Thank you for the advice. I had a friend that had the band a few years back and lost a lot of weight, but now is bigger then when she started. I couldn't understand why until I started researching this for my journey. She was always throwing up and I realize now it was because her bites were too big and she wasn't taking the time to wait for the bite to clear the band. She was also "eating around the band," as my nurse told me people do when they drink when they eat to get the food to clear the band...I know I have to be committed and ready for big changes in my habits - I just hope I don't mess up or something goes wrong.
  19. Thanks so much! They gave me the "Lap Band Solution." I have read it cover to cover!

    me

Valarie, I honestly felt like I was reading my story when I read your post, with the only exception being that I have been big my whole life (not as big as I am now, but always obese). I am having the surgery on February 14th for similar reasons you discussed. I wish you the very best and have hope that we will both get our joy of life back!
  22. Thank you! Is it normal to not meet your surgeon until surgery?
