    March Challenge-Lucky to be Losing!

    Weigh in 3/29: 357

One month banded and my port flipped

Yeah the procedure to fix the flip went well and fast. I was awake the entire time and fully aware of what was happening to me. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort. I am back on my pain meds and reliving the pain of trying to get up off the couch and getting in and out of bed. I am on solid foods and they gave me a fill of 4cc in my 14cc band. I can still eat normally though like I did without restriction after surgery. I will definitely need another fill. They took out the surgical mesh that was holding my port in place and attached the port to my muscle fascia. They seem to think my port won't go anywhere, and I sure hope that's the case. I don't need anymore setbacks or complications.
  3. I had my port revision procedure today. I was awake the entire time. Didn't feel a thing. They took out the mesh completely and attached the port directly to the fascia. They said it wasn't my fault that my port flipped within the first month and that it probably wasn't attached well in the first place. I got a fill if 4cc. Now we begin the process!!!

That sounds horrible, and very similar to my experience. I have a palm-sized bruise on my stomach.
  7. You will eat "food" when you feel hungry. It gets better. The first few days are hard to get adjusted.

    February 2014 bandsters?

No, I have taken it pretty easy the past few weeks.

No idea. They didn't really explain much. I will probably know more once he opens me up and fixes it.

    February 2014 bandsters?

No. He just kinda walked out after he said it flipped and I didn't see him again. The nurse told me it just happens.

    February 2014 bandsters?

Your port is way up there? Mine is midway between my boobs and bellybutton. So I went in for my first fill today. The doctor gave me a shot of lidocaine and then stuck the needle in to find my port. He found it, but broke the needle and had to get another one. He poked me again, dug around and pressed really hard on my stomach for a couple more minutes with no luck. Then he gave the nurse a chance, she did the same thing for about as long...still no luck. They took me back to the xray room and had me lay down. He inserted the needle again and dug around some more with additional pressing while the xray tech took a bunch of xrays. He still couldn't get it. At this point I am bawling my eyes out. It hurt so much. Long story short, I have to go in next Thursday to have them open me up and flip my port around. This is bullsh*t. I went in for a fill and all I got was pain and my stomach gushing blood. I bled through multiple bandaids and my gauze.

    February 2014 bandsters?

My first fill is tomorrow as well! I think it's a good thing cause I sure am hungry. I feel like I can eat normally, which is a very bad feeling!
  14. You more than likely have no fluid in your band, which means you have little to no restriction. My first fill is tomorrow (banded 2/21) and I can eat a lot of food right now. That doesn't mean I do or should. My first 2.5 weeks I would get full off very little. The past week I have noticed that those same amounts do not leave me feeling satisfied. After tomorrow, I know that it will get better. You will be fine. Just stick to the diet (and amounts) your doctor assigned.

Weight check in 3/17: 364.3 (Sorry, I was out of town and didn't have a scale)

    Washington State Survey FYI

Self reported data on surveys is huge in research, although there can be limitations (as with all research). This was a study that suggested getting a band is helpful for weight loss but only if patients get adjustments. It also showed that very few people have complications and band removal. That is pretty good news.

    February 2014 bandsters?

I started mushies yesterday. I am still adjusting to them. As for my port site, it's feeling better. I went in to my surgeons office on Wednesday because I was concerned with how my incision was healing. The nurse looked and said I had a knot and then cut it. I haven't felt port pain since.

    February 2014 bandsters?

I have noticed a lot of hunger between meals and not feeling satisfied after a meal. I have no fluid in my band right now, and the swelling has gone down quite a bit.

    February 2014 bandsters?

It's the ketones that do it from a high protein, low carb diet. Mouthwash and brush teeth.

    So upset!

I was weighed before I went into surgery and weighed a week later and didn't lose anything! I weighed the next week and lost 5.8 pounds. Don't get discouraged yet, your journey just began! Keep your chin up. Feel better!
