    Banded 2-26-14

I was banded last Friday and only experienced the CO2 gas pain in my back right after I woke up and when I went home. I put a heating pad on it and didn't feel that pain again. Now I just have GI gas pain and bloating. It's getting better though. Maalox is amazing.

    February 2014 bandsters?

The miralax has definitely helped. I drank 4oz of protein shake, some water, a little bit of Gatorade and just had 4 oz of cream of chicken soup with a half scoop of unjury unflavored protein added. Feeling good! Thanks for the tip!

    February 2014 bandsters?

If my incisions are glued I can't tell. I am allergic to steristrips and I have bandaids on my incisions. I don't see any stitches so maybe they are glued. I pulled off 4 of my bandaids to clean around the incisions with sterile wipes and replaced them with clean bandaids. I didn't take the large bandage off where I think my port is. 1/4 of the incisions was still bleeding or draining. I don't feel comfortable showering so I am just keeping clean with cottonelle wipes. I had my husband pick up some miralax and I put it in my protein shake. So far, so good. I finished the 4oz with little problem.

    February 2014 bandsters?

My doctor didn't tell me anything, not even about how to care for my incisions. I feel like I am flying blind. I have been walking around my house and to go get the mail. I should walk more but my focus is trying to drink water. I couldn't even make myself pee last night...nothing would come out. It's got me all freaked out!

    February 2014 bandsters?

I didn't know to take miralax. I was wondering why you all were talking about it. I have been doing the gasx strips today but they don't help. What does miralax do exactly?

    February 2014 bandsters?

I am sipping water out of a medicine cap. I feel like I am full of air but I can't burp. Just a small amount of water makes my stomach hurt and I get these weird cramping pains. What is going on?

    February 2014 bandsters?

Post surgery updates: I couldn't sleep hardly at all last night. These pain meds don't knock me out unfortunately. I have been drinking water today. I feel so dehydrated. I am not feeling much gas pain. I had some yesterday in my back and I have had a heating pad on it. I took a gasx strip yesterday but don't think it did much. I ate a few teaspoons of greek yogurt and felt full. I need to have some of my protein shake. I just feel like I am obsessed with putting food and drink in my mouth, more than I ever did before I was banded. Is this normal? It feels like a full time job.

Lap Banders with BMI 50 or higher?

My BMI was 61 and I had to lose weight to qualify for the surgery. My surgeon doesn't do the surgery for people with a BMI over 60. I am 5'6 and weighed 382 at my heaviest. After the preop diet I got down to 369 today for my surgery. I don't think starting weight has anything to do with long term success. Does their office follow up with all of their patients long term? If not, I find it hard for them to know for sure what they are claiming.

    Surgery today

I went in for surgery around 8:30am and went home a little after 2pm. I didn't have a hernia and my surgeon said my liver looked great (yay for not eating for 10 days!). The gas pain was really intense in my back and it took me awhile to get comfortable. The throat was also a little scratchy and dry. I have been walking around some, but mostly resting. These pain meds make me so tired. I have some pain in my stomach around my incisions. I am really hungry but I am not supposed to have anything but Clear liquids until tomorrow afternoon by the medicine cap full. I appreciate all of the supportive comments! The only person in my life who knows about me having surgery today is my husband (and you all!).

    February 2014 bandsters?

I just spoke with the nurse and she made it seem like the anesthesiologist would come and see me on Friday before surgery and listen to my lungs and do another chest X-ray if necessary. So far, she thinks the surgery can go on as planned. Still makes me nervous though.

    February 2014 bandsters?

That's my biggest worry is that my lungs are so full of junk and it's hard for me to get a deep breath as it is now that after the surgery I am thinking I would be more likely to get pneumonia. I have no idea what to do.

    February 2014 bandsters?

My official surgery date is this Friday, Feb 21. I have been on the pre-op diet since the 11th. I am down about 10 pounds so far. I got sick with what I thought was the flu last week. Turns out I had something viral that turned into bronchitis. I have been on a ZPak and an inhaler since Friday. I am coughing and sometimes have coughing fits. I don't know if I should reschedule my surgery or not. The nurse seems to think it is fine but I am a little worried.

    Favorite Protein Shake mix

Our doctor gave us unjury chocolate Splendor to try and I loved it so much I bought it online. It's a lot cheaper at about $25 for 17 servings.

    February 2014 bandsters?

I started the liquid pre-op diet yesterday. Every food commercial is driving me insane. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow morning to go through the procedure and then I have my PASS appt in the afternoon. I learn what my surgery date will be. I want to have the surgery ASAP because I have been thinking about it for years and have been waiting a month for this appt. I have done lots of thinking and reflecting and know this is my path. I am supposed to do the liquid diet for 10 full days before surgery, but I started earlier just in case he can do my surgery next week. Plus my BMI is higher than the max they allow for the surgery, so I need to lose 10 pounds to meet the qualifications.

    Lap-Band Site Question

I was told the invite would come after your band is registered with the company.

    5 years later...

Ask what their cash prices are for people who don't have insurance. I live in MO, and the prices vary greatly in hospitals a few miles apart. The hospital I am going to charges $9500 cash, which is a lot, but it is cheaper than the $13,000 across town. The price for the surgery has also dropped radically. A few years ago the cash price was $27,000.

    I wish I hadn't gotten the band

I think that is why refills should be done by removing all of the fluid and then adding it back in plus any additional needed. That way there is no mistake on how much fluid is in the band.
