  1. Ugh, those people drive me crazy!! They definitely have no clue about all of the work we put in!! I'd like to see any of them try to live a day in our lives and see how "easy" it is! Funny how society loves medical advances in treating disease, but when it comes to advances in treating obesity (and therefore treating, curing, or preventing many other diseases) it is such a taboo! Like you would ever go to someone who took antibiotics to cure a disease and say "ohhh, I thought you did it yourself!"
  2. Everyone will be different, but so far I've lost 26.6 lbs. I'm three weeks post op, and that loss includes my pre op diet week weight loss. Post surgery is 13.6 lbs. I'm averaging 4.5 lbs per week post op, and I think that's awesome!!! . I'm 35 years old, 5'5", and my starting weight before preop diet was 262.
  3. I'm three weeks out today, and while I don't love to exercise, I figure the best way to really change my body is to do it! The weight is coming off, but exercising (both cardio and strength) are the best ways to shrink and tone and really show how much my body is changing. I don't want to wind up a skinny fat person! After going through all this hard work, I want to look how I feel! That's what motivates me to hit the gym! Three days of cardio and two days of strength per week. I'm sure it will really pay off in the end
  4. I got this too, on my abdomen! At first I thought it was just from the steri strips. I ended up with tiny red, horribly itchy, bumps all over my stomach and sides. I think it may be from yeast, so I started using some lotromin, and it's helped a lot. I just started using today, but already the itching and red spots are better!

    Feel amazing!

I'm just over two weeks post op gastric sleeve, and I am so happy I finally did this for myself! It hasn't been easy, but all things considered, I've been extremely lucky not not have experienced any complications! I spent one night in the hospital before I went home, had virtually no pain since getting home, started sleeping on my stomach again 5 days post op, no nausea or reflux... I'm counting my blessings!! I'm back on puréed foods, and am truly amazed at the tiny amount that satisfies me! Literally 1/4 cup or less and I'm done! It's true that you really notice the restriction once you enter into more solid foods. The liquid phase made me a little nervous because I was able to drink about 8 oz over 20 min without much difficulty. I'm doing my best to learn what "full" feels like, because again, like people have said, it feels different than before surgery. For me, I know I'm full when I feel that little bit of chest tightness, and I get burpy! I also notice that when I eat or drink too fast I burp more, so that's my queue to slow down. I'm enjoying walks almost every day, usually with my two dogs. Right now I'm cleared for activity for 20 min increments. For me, that's about a 1 mile walk around my neighborhood. I have my two week post op on Wednesday and hopefully will be cleared for 60 min of activity and will be able to lift more than 10lbs! I'll also get my steri strips off. Thank goodness, because those suckers ITCH! I have a couple that are loose, but I haven't pulled them off. My surgeon said that he's found that if they stay on for at least two weeks, it really helps with scarring. He said he'd remove them at my first post op, and I'm ready, haha! I took four weeks off from work (I work as a nurse in a busy OB/Gyn office) and am really enjoying my time off! These last two weeks are really to get into my new eating routine And get in daily exercise. After I go back to work, my plan is to hit the gym across the street from the hospital a few days a week for my cardio and strength training. So far I'm down almost 24 lbs, including my pre op week, and I'm so happy!! Height: 5ft 5.5in Start weight (7/21/14): 262 Surgery day (7/28/14): 249 Current weight (8/12/14): 238 Pic of me at the beginning of my pre op diet and two weeks post op. It's subtle, but I can notice small differences
  7. I think it's completely normal to get cold feet! Even sitting in pre-op with my IV in I was thinking "I could still back out if it wanted to!" I am sooooooooooo happy I didn't! I'm almost 3 weeks post op now, and loving my new life! I can eat 1/4 to 1/3 cup, depending on what I'm eating. I'm still on puréed foods until next week, but denser foods like beans I can only eat 1/4 cup (if that), but thinner stuff like yogurt I can tolerate a little more. As for cravings and not being able to eat more, I'm good there. I think with the reduction in ghrelin and new mindset, I have no desire to eat large amounts of food, even stuff I used to binge on! I'm looking forward to eating some of my old favorites (pizza being most) but I'm ok if I'm satisfied on only half a slice! I'm really excited to even try some healthier versions of my favorites...cauliflower pizza crust for one! I can't tell you how happy i am I did this for myself! I finally have the tool that is going to help me reach my goal and live a healthier, happier life!
  8. Everything went great! My doc was really happy about how I'm doing and said I'm "ahead of the game." He told me just to keep doing what I'm doing. I can increase my activity to 60 min per day, and he told me that I don't need 80g of protein (which I was aiming for) and that 60-70g was enough (I'm 5'5"). I've been experiencing orthostatic hypotension, which he said could be mild dehydration, or just my body's way of adjusting to ketones and decreased carbohydrate intake. It should get better . Overall, I feel amazing! If it weren't for the reduced amount of food I can eat, I wouldn't know I even had surgery! Dr. Long also gave me a copy of my surgery and pathology reports, which were very interesting to read. The pathology report said the portion of stomach that was removed was 25cm in length by 5.3 cm in diameter! He used a 40 French boogie for sizing in surgery. Sooooooo happy how this new life is starting off!!!!!

Just out of surgery today :-)

I felt something similar. My doc explained that the nerves in the stomach aren't very specific and told me that the pain would feel like bad heartburn, it went away after the second day. Hopefully it's that and not actually reflux! Good luck!

    The number on the scale

I feel the same way! I may not be at goal, but this will be the last time I see those high numbers, and that makes me excited!

    Sleeved this morning!

Congratulations! It gets better! The first two days were the hardest, and by day 4 or 5 I was feeling great!! Keep up the great work!

    New and improved "after"

You look amazing!! Obviously put in some hard work, and it paid off!!! Congrats!
  17. I am so excited!!! I have been on liquids for three weeks now, and I'm so ready for some textures, lol. I'm really proud of myself for sticking with it! The only "cheat" I did was instead of straining my potato soup once, I left three tiny chunks of potato in it. I went grocery shopping and stocked up on cottage cheese, plain Greek yogurt, non fat refried beans and mashed potatoes! I'm hoping the larger variety helps me more consistently reach my protein goals!
  18. I posted earlier this week to see when most stomach sleepers were able to start sleeping on their stomachs again, and last night, 5 days post op, I finally did!! Luckily I haven't been dealing with any reflux issues, and I haven't been having pain (just some very minor aches at the end of the day), so I gave it a shot...and slept like a baby, lol. I truly am amazed how fast I've bounced back from surgery! Surgery day and the day after were rough...but less than a week out I really am feeling wonderful! I'm getting the hang of my new eating and drinking habits and couldn't be happier about making this decision!

    Nausea Question

I think the anesthesia and narcotics were what lead to my nausea. After the anesthesia wore off and I no longer needed the strong pain meds I didn't have nausea. One thing in the hospital that made me throw up was the liquid colace. It tasted disgusting and didn't sit well in my new sleeve. If you take it, take it very slowly and watered down if possible! Made me wretch both times I got it (OUCH!!!!). My doc gave me a Rx for Zofran at home, but I haven't had to take any
  20. 5 days post op and totally tired of the liquid diet, but I found something tonight that may save me, lol. 8 oz decaf coffee, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, and some ice! Tastes just like an iced mocha. Sooooo happy to have had something with a different flavor!!! Can't tell you how excited I am to have some cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and cream of wheat in a week
  21. And I feel great!!! Just minor soreness at this point, mostly from the incision on the right where they removed the portion if the stomach from. I'm doing well getting in my fluids and trying my best with the Protein. I'm tired of shakes...but luckily only have one more week on them! . I've been walking a lot and am venturing to my best friends house for a visit today. I'm down 16 lbs, including what I lost on the pre op diet, so I'm pretty darn happy!!!

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Sleeved 7/28 and doing really well. Getting all of my fluids in, and trying to get my 60g of protein in, but the protein is tough. I'm so sick of protein shakes!!! I've had some strained cream of mushroom soup with unflavored protein powder, but even that is getting old. Still 10 days until I can advance to puréed! I've been taking walks outside, and resting well. Hope everyone is doing great too!!!
  23. Ugh, I know this part is temporary, but I am so uncomfortable. I can only sleep off and on, and I'm trying to walk circles around the house while I'm awake. Between the gas and stomach pain, I'm Pretty miserable . I really hope things start to get better. I'm drinking fluids, but not even a tiny part of me is ready to progress past clears yet! I know there is a lot of inflammation, so hopefully it starts to go down. Please keep me in your prayers! Thanks!
