  1. Hi: If you don't already have one, reward yourself with a great MP3 player and download some great exercising music. It's a nice thing to have and it will help with your exercise. Another idea, check out TRIKKE 3-point Carving Vehicles. I got one last Wednesday and I'm loving it. One of the other bandsters recommended it. Congratulations. I think the rewards help to get to the goal. Take care. Sue
  2. Hi: I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have the updates on the threads sent to my e-mail address. Just yesterday this strange thing started happening. I use aol for my e-mail address for the lapbandtalk website. Yesterday I tried linking back to lapband talk from one of the e-mails and it just locks up my e-mail. It always worked before that. I have anti-virus software that is up-to-date and I did an extra scan and it seems fine. Any suggestions? Maybe I hit something that doesn't allow a link from e-mail, but I don't know where that option is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Sue
  3. Christie: You should go see your doctor. It sounds like it could possibly be a hernia. Hope you heal quickly whatever it ends up being. Take care. Sue
  4. Molly: I'll pray for internal peace for you. While you're going through this why not try to turn your anger for this man into a positive thing. I know this is going to sound kind of whacked, but why not hang a punching bag and put his picture on it and work out your arms? Or, when you're out walking pretend that bastard is 100 feet behind you and you cannot let him get any closer so you have to walk extra fast. Silly things to do to focus your anger into an activity that benefits you physically, instead of internalizing the anger and covering it with twinkies. Good luck. Sue
  5. Hi: I think that keeping active helps with being down in the dumps too. Exercise with some good music on. Another thing, if you're physically tired, that doesn't help. Try to get to bed a little bit earlier because you're still healing and need extra rest. And, make sure you're taking a Multivitamin. Hope you feel better soon. Sue
  6. Nesser08192: I just looked back at my written liquid pre-op liquid diet. It says that you can have up to 3 no sugar added fudgsicles in a day. However, the sugar free popsicles weren't limited. We could also have up to 3 per day of Dannon Light, Yoplait Light, or Colombo Light yogurt. Hope this helps. You're doing the most difficult part when you're on this stage. Good luck. Sue
  7. Mamaof3: How you feeling? I remember your surgery was this past Tuesday. I hope you are feeling well. I think they have a good program over at Norwood Hospital. The nursing staff was very attentive to me when I was having nausea issues after banding. I hope you are well. Sue
  8. Hi Allison: I checked my calender from last year. My appointments worked like this: 3/29/07 - informational seminar 4/17/07 - 1st appointment with Dr. Adam Glasgow 4/18/07 - blood work 4/25/07 - appointment with ENT - precurser to sleep apnea test for me 5/9/07 - barium swallow - showed I had hiatal hernia 5/12/07 - Dr. Newman - psych evaluation 5/17/07 - Nutrition appointment 6/6/07 - sleep study 6/27/07 - follow up with ENT - discussed sleep test 7/13/07 - second appt. with Dr. Adam Glasgow 7/18/07 - pre-op at Caritas Norwood Hospital 7/26/07 - surgery 8/6/07 - post surgical appointment with Dr. G. Approx. one year after seminar I am down 119 pounds! Yippee. As far as dieting before the surgery, I think they usually want you to go on liquids for ten days prior to surgery. This will give you a quick loss that shrinks the liver to get it out of their way during surgery. Once you're approved, I wouldn't worry about bmi anymore. Just do what the doctors say to do pre-op. My BMI was 50.7 to start (ewwwww), and I was so ready to stop being so heavy so I took off quite a bit before surgery (38 pounds). If you have more questions, just let me know. If you want to speak to me, just send me a pm and I'll give you my phone number. Good luck with your appointments next week. I am on alot of the threads. I've become hooked on lapbandtalk. I don't have anyone close to me that has gone through this so I come here and browse alot. Take care. Sue
  9. ljm: Your progress has been so incredible! Congratulations. Sue
  10. Julie: Don't even think about cancelling your ps unless you absolutely have to. Try to forget about his being out of work and just try to enjoy having him take care of you while you are recuperating. Then, once you're feeling better, or even while you're recuperating come up with an action plan to get him back to work. Sometimes unemployment will give an extension to unemployment if someone is getting retrained in a new field. Check to see if they offer that service in CA. They do in MA. Another thing that might be available is outplacement services at the place he just left. I was laid off 15 years ago and it can be devestating. I am an accountant, so I went and worked for temporary agencies to hold me over until I got full employment. It took a year for that to happen, but I worked temp most of the time. Good luck with your surgery and with your husband getting back to work. Take care. Sue
  11. Vicky: Sounds like you need help from your surgeon - a fill! This will make things much easier. Sue
  12. Alison: I was having issues with abdominal pain and found out I have gall stones and am having my gallbladder removed next week. I was noticing that I had extra gas too. I think you should call your primary care doctor and go from there. Gall stones are a common issue for people who lose weight quickly. Congratulations on your weight loss. Sue
  13. Hi: You should call your surgeon and let him/her know. They'll be able to answer you better than anyone else. I got a yeast infection two days before my band and I called the doctor and he just said to do the over-the-counter medication and don't worry about it. Everything went fine. Good luck. Sue
  14. You'll probably feel more comfortable talking about being banded after you've seen some significant weight loss. Do what works for you if you're not comfortable discussing it. You don't need negative vibes, so come to this site for support and you'll find comfort and positive vibes here. My biggest regret with the band is that I waited until 2007 to get it done. Had I known about it before then I would have done it before. So glad I'm banded and am successfully losing alot of weight. Best wishes to you. Don't think of it as being the "easy" way out. Because it isn't. The band is a tool that helps you if you eat small quantities and exercise. Take care. Sue
  15. Becky: Have you tried Weight Watchers? It might be more tasty, cheaper, and healthier than the nutri-system. Good luck with whatever you choose. Sue
  16. Hi Allison: The Glasgows said they only use the bigger inamed bands now. So, sounds like you'll be getting the bigger band. They're great doctors, don't worry. They'll take good care of you. Dr. Adam Glasgow (probably Dr. Arthur will assist, like with lapband they assist each other) is taking out my gallbladder next Thursday. I don't have a worry knowing they're taking care of me. Any more questions, feel free to ask. Take care. Sue
  17. Dave: I got my trikke today. Love, love, love it. Got a helmet, didn't dump it at all. It's kind of hard to get started, but I just kept pushing kind of like a scooter to get it started. Too funny, I'm 48 years old and I've never used a scooter, but there I was riding my trike! Exercised about a half an hour and worked up a pretty good sweat. I'm sure the kids in my neighborhood thought I was whacked. But two of them were following me asking all sorts of questions. Thanks for recommending the trikke. I look forward to finding alot of cool places to ride it. Folds pretty good for putting in the trunk too. Thanks again. Sue
  18. Jennifer: My band doctor gave me a 4 cc band last July. However, in support group they told everyone that they used to give most women 4 cc's and the men the larger band. However, they had three bands that were too tight on women that they had to reoperate and change to the bigger band. Since then they've only done the larger bands on everyone regardless of their size or sex. They said it is harder to manage the fills because it takes more finesse to find the sweet spot, however it's better than finding out a day after surgery that someone's band is too tight before it's even filled. Good luck. Sue
  19. Tina: Way to go! You look great and I can tell that you feel great too. Sue
  20. drod309: Positive thinking may help your situation. Read about the success stories on this site, there are hundreds of them. As far as the heavy lifting goes, your doctor probably told you about heavy lifting during recovery period. If not, call their office and ask because you don't want to hurt the positioning of your band. Good luck, and try to think positive. If you stick to the bandster rules and get some exercise you'll have some wonderful things happen in the next year, like I did. Take care. Sue
  21. Hi: I'm not at the point that Jachut is, but I can testify that it does work if you follow the program. I think it is a committment to yourself that has to be made before you can be succesful. I think that's why my surgeon's group does the psych test beforehand - to make sure you're mentally ready and committed to make change. I love my band because I'm almost a "normal-sized" person again. I've lost 119 pounds since last April 23rd. I did a modified weight watcher's type of plan for three months prior to surgery. I just couldn't stand carrying around the excess weight anymore! Sometimes I go back and forth between being disgusted at how big I let myself get to be, to being proud at how much I've lost. I do try to focus on the positive though because I think it's better for my own personal morale. This can work if you use it as a tool. However, the biggest tool is the one between your ears! I don't think I would be as succesful without exercise, so that's another committment I made to myself. I really think it's important to exercise and change your diet drastically. My band doesn't remind me to exercise, like it reminds me not to overeat. But so far my head's been in the game, and I think I'm winning right now. Good luck. I hope that you can win the battle too. Sue
  22. Hi slimmy120: I was banded on 7/26/07, about two months before you. I lost 38 pounds pre-band, then gained 9 when I was banded, and am now down 119 altogether. Love, love, love my band. It does get harder to lose now than back then. I'm hoping to kick up the exercise some more once this crappy weather is over with. I hope all is well with you. Sue
  23. Hi: If you eat too fast, or too much sometimes you do this thing called "slime". It's really just spit, but it's thicker. I think it is what your body creates to try to move food along when it's stuck or almost stuck. This is gross, but you asked, so I'll tell you. A few times when I've slimed it's like a fricken slime snake. You can almost pull it out of your mouth and cut it with a knife. Once you finish sliming you usually don't have pain anymore from the golfball in your chest that you get if you eat too fast, or too much. Sorry if this was too graphic. Hopefully you won't slime very many times. Sue
  24. TxChelsea: Are you comparing what you weighed on your surgeon's scale a couple of days ago to what you weigh on your home scale? You cannot compare the two because there will almost always be differences between two scales. There can also be large variances between weighing yourself at different times of day. I am always lightest in the morning. Another variable is clothes, or naked. I would be so fricken happy if I lost what you lost. I wouldn't be concerned at all. The loss will slow down soon. Good luck with your surgery. Sue
  25. Nicole: They found that I had a hiatal hernia when they did the pre-surgical barium swallow. They fixed it with my banding and haven't had heartburn since. Good luck. Sue
