    Joke Thread

David received a parrot for his birthday. The parrot was fully grown, with a bad attitude and worse vocabulary. Every other word was an expletive. Those that weren't expletives were, to say the least, rude. David tried hard to change the bird's attitude and was constantly saying polite words, playing soft music, anything he could think of to try and set a good example. Nothing worked. He yelled at the bird and the bird yelled back. He shook the bird and the bird just got more angry and more rude. Finally, in a moment of desperation, David put the parrot in the freezer. For a few moments he heard the bird squawk and kick and scream. Then suddenly there was quiet. Not a sound for half a minute. David was frightened that he might have hurt the bird and quickly opened the freezer door. The parrot calmly stepped out onto David's extended arm and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I will endeavor at once to correct my behavior. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness." David was astonished at the bird's change in attitude and was about to ask what had made such a dramatic change when the parrot continued, "May I ask what the chicken did?"

    Joke Thread

A big shot attorney had to spend a couple of days in the hospital. He was a royal pain to the nurses because he bossed them around just like he did his staff. None of the hospital staff wanted to have anything to do with him. The head nurse was the only one who could stand up to him. She came into his room and announced, "I have to take your temperature." After complaining for several minutes, he finally settled down, crossed his arms and opened his mouth. "No, I'm sorry," the nurse stated, "but for this reading, I can't use an oral thermometer." This started another round of complaining, but eventually he rolled over and bared his behind. After feeling the nurse insert the thermometer, he heard her announce, "I have to get something. Now you stay JUST LIKE THAT until I get back!" She leaves the door to his room open on her way out. He curses under his breath as he hears people walking past his door, laughing. After a half hour, the man's doctor comes into the room. " "What's going on here?" asked the doctor. Angrily, the man answers, "What's the matter, Doc? Haven't you ever seen someone having their temperature taken?" After a pause, the doctor confesses, "Not with a carnation"

    Tomorrow is the Day!!!

Congrats. I too had my advanced directive all in order as well as a list of people and phone numbers for pet rescues in case my pets were too much for my husband. I know most people thought I was a nut. I even wrote letters to my husband and son to have in case I didn't make it. Okay, so maybe I am a nut. Anyways. Good luck. I am sure you will do great. I have only had mine since 5/17/05 and everyday it truly gets better. Welcome to Bandland!!!

Thank you. Congrats on your loss too. I know it's only been two weeks for me but I really feel that this was one of the best things I have ever done in my whole life. Have a safe and fun trip. Our last vacation was in March so I haven't been out of town with my "little buddy" yet. MAybe this fall before school starts again. Take care and say hello when you get back.

Anyone wear a medical id bracelet?

This is a two part message. First,I am glad you daughter is going to be okay luvracing. That's really scary. Since I am an ebay addict I checked there as well. They have medic alert bracelets and necklaces. I admit they aren't all excatly stylish but they would do the trick. There were several cute ones though too.

Looking for a Doctor in Oklahoma

I thought I would give you an update. Yesterday was exactly 2 weeks since I had the band. I lost over 15 pounds in that 2 weeks! I still have a long ways to go but I never could have done that in 6 months on my own. I asked the nurse if the scale was right. I was just so shocked! I won't lie, it is difficult sometimes and I have had moments of "buyer's remorse" but when you hear that number starting to come down the regrets seem to dissappear.

    May Surgery Dates

Hey Wavetimer, we are band twins! I had my band done on the 17th of May as well here in Oklahoma City. I am doing great too. The staples come out Tuesday. And I get to see how much I have lost since my doctor doesn't want us to weigh until our 2 week post-op appointment. I am glad to hear that so many people are doing so well, Keep up the good work and I will keep everyone posted. Jeannie in OKC
  10. I am about 2 weeks post-op and I have to wait til I am 10 weeks post-op for my first fill. I haven't had any complications that is just my doctor's protocol.

    RNY...why I chose the band.

I feel the same way. I know of four people who have had the RNY. They all had different doctors and one of them was even in another state. Only 3 of them are alive today. Two have had serious problems ranging from a lost spleen, a horrible infection, and an extended ICU stay to ulcers and decreased reaction to her meds. One has had a great time and has lost 118 pounds since her surgery a year ago. Those odds aren't that great in my opinion. I was seriously afraid of the RNY and my husband wouldn't allow it after all this....lol. After all of this and my fear of things being cut and rerouted inside I just couldn't do it. I have only been banded a week as of today but I know i made the right choice, for me at least.

What does everyone do for a living?

I am a full time criminal justice student and when I am not at school I am a stay at home mom/"housewife". I hate the term housewife but I couldn't think of another word at the time. I am currently torn between wanting to go into corrections administration or going to law school with I am done with my associates of criminal justice.

Congrats Christine on your "loss". I can't wait to see what the scales say the first time I weigh in after surgery. I refuse to check until my first post op appt. on the 31st.

    May Surgery Dates

They put them on before surgery along with those compression sleeve things. I also had the compression sleeves on the whole time at the hospital. I was never told about them but I also didn't know to ask either. I take them off to shower and leave them off for maybe an hour. They said I could leave them off except for at night if I walked at least 5 to 10 minutes an hour but would prefer to have me wear them. So I deal with them. I just find them itchy, nothing too terrible. I do walk the recommednded time plus a few minutes more when I feel up to it but I prefer to be cautious. I hope that helps you some Road Queen and I certainly don't mean to alarm you. I would ask your doctor or someone at the hospital when you go in.

    May Surgery Dates

I had my band on the 17th. I got to come home the next afternoon. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting so I guess I really got lucky. They already had me remove my bandages and to my surprise I have staples!! 17 of them! They are driving me nuts but I feel like I really lucked out by that being the worst thing besides the minor pain and having to go a little slow around the house. I am experiencing a little shortness of breath. nothing too serious, just like a little reminder to slow it down. Water has been my best friend along with soup and my doctor already allows me to have a small amount of low fat yogurt.I also must admit that I hate surgical stockings! I have to wear them until the 31st when the staples come out but considering the alternative of blood clots I will do as told. I do have a question though, how many of you have experienced the short emotional crying episodes? I have had a few of them the last couple days. I was told that might happen as things in my system level out. Any ideas or comments? BTW, my pre-op weight was 291 and I will get my ticker up soon.

    May Surgery Dates

I am new to this site and I will post some before and in progress pics soon. I am scheduled for May 17th and I am both nervous and very excited. I am sure everyone around me wants me to shut up about it. Actually my family is very supportive. I am at 280 right now. I would like to reach 150-ish. So ask any questions that you wish. And I am thrilled I found this site. I have a feeling this will be one of the best experiences of my life (this site and the banding).
