1. I'm 1 week post-op and looking for a good place for online support. The place that I had my surgery done is 2 hours away and I can't drive that far everytime I need support. Anyway, I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there from Maine?????:car:

Any banders from Maine??

Hi there. I am from 2 hours downeast of Bangor. Bangor is where I had my surgery and where my surgeon and dietitian and everyone else is. So it's quite the process for me.

Sad and scared

Hi everyone. I was banded on 8-13-07 and then banded again on 8-17-07 because the original band had slipped due to herniation in the back side of my stomach. I was taken in for emergency surgery on the 17th and then released late on the 18th. I have been home since then and so far so good.

My problem is that I keep having these moments and my mom says that it's due to the anesthesia that I had, twice that is. My mom had bypass and is almost 18 months out. She doesn't remember exact what she went through because it was a while ago and also because she only had surgery once. But I keep wondering if I have done the right thing. I know that it will be great to get the excess weight off and be healthy. But it scares me that I may fail at this and I may get to my goal and then gain it all back. Also, where I live, the lapband surgeon that I had is the only one that will work with me because she is the one that has done all of my lap band work. So I know that I need to stay in the area. But what happens if she retires or whatever and then I have to find another surgeon. I would really rather stay with her, but people don't live forever. And this is a huge lifelong change. And what if my band slips again and I have to get it taken off???? It's already slipped once and the fact that it can slip again, at any time, scares me to death. I don't think that my surgeon would do it again. I'm only 22 and I'm freaking out about this. Please help.

3 Days Post Op

I didn't experience much post-op gas pain except for when i tried a scrambled egg and got really sick after it. But that wasn't because of the egg, it was because my stomach had herniated and caused the band to slip. But from what I've heard, everyone is different as to when the gas pains are gone, but some people still experience them afterward because of something they ate, or eating too fast, etc. I think I only experienced gas pains on the first day post-op for the re-banding. Best of luck to everyone experiencing gas pains. If nothing is working, call your doctor or your surgeon.

6. OHH. I don't know anyone has who had a TT after the band and losing all the weight. I also am the only one in my immediate area who has had the band. Most people get bypass here. ANYWAY, from what my surgeon told me, and she is amazing and knows a lot about this, if you have the band taken off, people tend to gain all or most of the weight back. Maybe you should consult with a bariatric surgeon to see what they think.

making a bad mistake

If you have a dietitian that you have to work with, call them or make an appt with them to see what you can eat. I am 8 days out from my surgery and I hardly want to eat at all. I've had water, sugar free popsicles, chicken brother, and a tad of cream of wheat for dinner. See what it's ok for you to eat, but do it now. Don't wait. If you fix the problem now, it will be much easier come a week or two from now. Best of luck to you.

A thread for Single Bandsters

Hi KristiB- I'm not sure why my band slipped, but it wasn't anyone's fault. My stomach is weird apparently and the back side herniated up into my pouch and that caused the band to slip. It wasn't a pleasant experience, so I'm on the watch for other issues that may arise, although I'm hoping that none will. Shelbie
9. Hi everyone. My name is Shelbie and I am from Maine. I have been banded and I am one week out right now. I was banded in Bangor and my surgeon was Dr Toder. I have some weight loss so far, but some of it is most likely fluids that they put into me in the hospital. I don't have my own LapBand site and I've been searching a while to find a site like this one here.

I am new to this site and not really sure about all of the lingo. Pardon my ignorance, but what does PB mean?

Hi there. I had Dr Toder for my lap band and I love her. She is an amazing surgeon and she's really down to earth as a person. She will tell you like it is and she will answer whatever you have for questions. I just got banded a week ago today. Are you near the Bangor area? I live in Machias, it's far away but Bangor is the closet facility.
12. hey. ive figured it out. if you go to the ticker site that everyone is making them in, you create your ticker and then use the BBcode and put it in your signature under UserCP. Also, the information that you want to put in regarding your loss and fills and such, if you keep that in your signature, it will appear on all your posts and you just update your signature when you have new information.

Port Placement????

I didn't have a choice on where my port was going to go, my surgeon just put it where she thought was the best place. It's on my left side right at my natural waist line. I haven't been out much, so I've been lounging in comfy clothes and haven't had to wear regular clothes yet. Is the surgeon that you are going to have going to give you a choice of where you want it?
14. Hi everyone. I was banded a week ago today. It's been an interesting journey. BTW, Does anyone know how I can get my ticker into my profile somewhere so that when I post my ticker will show up? Thanks

I want to cry

First off. I have cried. I cried nearly all day yesterday wondering if I had made the wrong choice and if I should have tried harder without surgery, but surgery is not the easy way out. Also, this band is something that you have to maintain for the rest of your life unless there is a serious complication with it. So you've already made the decision that you are willing to change your life in order to lose the excess weight and be healthy. I commend you in your decision and I don't think that you should worry about having the band slip unless you are in pain or experiencing weird symptoms that would suggest that there is a problem. The program that I got my band through is very strict, but they are now starting band patients right out on a High protein soft food diet because too many people were getting hungry on the liquid diet. The important thing is to be truthful with your doctor. And next time that you have a question about something or about advancing your diet, just call and talk to your surgeon. They know what's best. Anyway, I am a week out today and I'm doing pretty good. Don't get down on yourself and just think about the long term benefits of this. And don't get it reversed unless there is a medical reason that you have to, otherwise you may regret it later on down the road.
16. Hi there. I just was doing some searching on here and I found this forum and thought I would post. Yes, I have hard Dr. Toder. Yes, I think that anyone considering that LapBand that's in the Bangor area should go with Dr. Toder. She is absolutely AMAZING and she's down to earth as well. But don't base your opinion of a surgeon on what other people say. Meet her and talk with her and get to know her style and see what happens. I wish all other band people the best.
