    How long?

I asked my surgeon about this. He's a little more aggressive than others talked about on this site but I love him and he came highly recommended. His answer is different so I'm only offering as a different point of view. He said water with a meal is fine. What he doesn't want is someone washing down or pushing down their food using fluid. But if you're just drinking sips while eating as part of the meal or because you're thirsty, he says no problem. Again, do what your doc says. This is just a different point of view
  2. Call your doctor. My band slipped after six months. I got a terrible case of stomach flu. I didn't feel "right" afterward. Throat was gurgling. Felt hard in my upper stomach.. But not stuck. Over the course of the next few days, terrible heart burn. Then even 3 bites of cottage cheese hurt. So... While everyone is different, your symptoms don't sound like mine. FYI... took liquid out, one week later, band in place. Taking it slow now. Good luck.

    Gas pains still?

It will end (ish). What I mean is it will get much, much better. But, you'll have more gas than you did pre-band. I burp more than the other end. Which my teenage boys find fantastic. Good luck!

    Band slippage....

Just had an unfill and my band slipped back into place. However, I've noticed that since then I am much more sensitive. I feel tighter when I am on my period, when I have a runny nose, or just about anytime I'm not at 100%. Not a big deal I just need to pay attention. My doctor has also told me it is more apt to slip again once it has slipped the first time. Gosh I hope not, that was miserable.

  6. Your thread could have been typed by me 3 months ago. I promise you that it will get better. If you want to PM me I can give you a few tips but will tell you it's mainly just a head trip for a while. No fun but you will be ok. You did not waste your money.
  7. It feels like someone is jamming a 1"metal pole right in the middle of your chest. (which I guess is ridiculous to say because I've never actually had that happen) It's a crazy combo of pain and that awful feeling you have right before you throw up. Chew! And more importantly (at least for me) wait 60 seconds to take another bite. I got the free app called eating slower. I set it for 1 minute and 20 seconds. I chew for 20 seconds, swallow, and then have 1 minute to wait before the timer dings.

    Rollercoaster month

That is a lot on your plate. All of it at once... way too big. Just one thing at a time. Take care of yourself (physically, mentally right down to your soul) Then, even if everything else gets crazy, you'll be strong enough to handle it. You obviously have made a habit of making good, solid decisions. You decided to get a band. You decided to put your health first. You decided to put yourself and your kids in a better situation by leaving a bad situation . None of these things are easy but you did them. You've got this. I'm totally impressed by everything you're handling at once. One day at a time.

    Lightheaded and Dizzy

Good point. Good nutrition should be the ultimate goal. However if you're light headed to the point of passing out, then blood sugar needs to be taken care of immediately. I drank half a bottle of apple juice and felt instantly better. No need to suffer just to learn a lesson. Feeling better puts you in a position to make good decisions moving forward. Everyone is different so the terms "always" and "never" don't really apply. Most importantly, talk to your doctor. His advice trumps my or anyone e else's advice you'll get here.

    Lightheaded and Dizzy

I called the nurse when it happened to me (5 days after surgery) She suggested a small bottle of apple juice to help blood sugar. By the time I'd had ten sips, I was already feeling better. Good luck (always call your doctor if you don't feel better soon)
  11. Surgery on Thursday and back to work Monday. Felt fine but was a bit more tired on Monday than usual. By Tuesday, back to normal.

    Ate too fast now stuck

I'm so sorry. Had same thing today. Many suggested to me sipping hot Water. Make windmill motions with arms. Laying flat and stretching arms way over head. And sometimes with minor sticking I have found taking a big huge breath and then throwing your head back to look up at least takes some pressure off. Good luck! I'm thinking about you.
  13. I'm miserable. Have been stuck for over 2 hours. (never longer than 20 minutes before) Have gotten sick twice. Didn't help as much as you would think..or as I'd hoped. Since I'm relatively new to this and it's never happened like this before, how long do I go before I call someone? Just tough it out?
  14. It was bread. I've been able to eat it before, but not today obviously. When I was going on my 3rd hour of being stuck I decided to just drive to the office. Thankfully I live close and he could work me in. As he was doing the unfill I felt instantly better. And he was able to put the liquid right back in. That was a hard lesson. After 3 hours of torture, if I don't learn to slow down and eat right then I am an idiot. Geez! Thank you for your input by the way.
  15. 7-8-14 183.2 side note: I didn't drink nearly as much water yesterday as I should or normally do so I'm pretty sure this number is artificially lower than it should be. But today, I will take it

    Woah! This is hard!

Wow. Just downloaded that app. No wonder I get stuck so often. I let time go by (without looking) to see how long I'm actually waiting between bites. 35-40 seconds! I couldn't believe it. I had no idea 60 seconds took so long without being on a treadmill Any time I'm home and eating, I'm using this! Thank you!

    Do I keep drinking?

Please note my answer is only based on what MY doctor told ME. He told me if I can't keep liquids down the day of the fill, come right back in (for an unfill) because it won't get better on its own. Give your doctor a call before the long weekend and at least give him a heads up. Good luck!

    Size 14!

Oops.. My sad face emoticon came out as crazy symbols. What I meant to type is that my unfill was -. 5cc (from 5 to 4.5).
  22. I just woke up in the middle of the night and ran downstairs for a Water. As I was walking back up, I noticed I felt pretty good so I walked straight to my closet to try clothes on. (Because that's what people do at 3:30am right? ) I went right to the forbidden pile. .. clothes I haven't worn in years. (Why I've let them take up space in my closet is beyond me.. but tonight no complaints! ) I tried on the first pair of size 14 capris and they fit! I was excited but knew they were probably one of the bigger size 14s. Then I tried on the next pair and the next, and EVERY size 14 in my closet fit. Woo hoo! Then of course my "crazy brain" took over and I tried on a size 12. Had to laugh.. That was a definite no go (for now! ) But I don't care. I'm sitting here at 4 in the morning happy as could be. I'm not sure anyone else in my life would appreciate a 4am "YEA! My butt is smaller" phone call so I came here instead! I don't think I'll ever get back to sleep.
