My surgery was incredible! The hospital is very accommodating and attentive to hour needs. I have only seen Dr Cabrera a few times, but his staff is great. My greatest advice is to take it slow and walk a lot! The hallways are not long, but you should travel them often for quickest recovery. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone!

I am flying Frontier and Sun Country (it was cheaper and I could fly in the specified time frame). Both of those airlines allow me to take my small wheeled duffle bag as a carry on along with a personal item (purse).
I am packing very light. I'm bringing some yoga pants and t-shirts, sports bras, PJs, a maxi dress, some crystal light individual serve packets, phone + tablet, (plus their chargers), and toiletries. Well, my passport too - but, ya know. I am definitely packing light and my clothes are geared toward comfort.
As far as Protein shakes go, I've ordered the unjury sample pack to see how I feel about the unflavored and the chicken Soup. I've also picked up a tub of my favorite vanilla whey Protein from GNC (I have long been a fan of protein + fruit + veggie smoothies in the morning), and will be using that for most of the pre-op phase. It's quite good in the morning with some instant coffee, Water, and a splash of SF Torani Mocha Syrup.< /p>

I thought it was just me but it was hard finding a flight to fit the hours of pick up.

Exactly. I have very decent insurance through work. That said, our plan does not allow bariatric procedures for weight loss. It goes a step farther than just that though. It also excludes bariatric procedures even with comorbidities involved. I've learned that it is very common for government employee plans, (especially smaller municipal and county), to be written this way to help keep insurance costs in the plan down. It sucks, as I have a few comorbidities, and would love to go through insurance.
Since I don't have that option, my options for surgery are to go local, which in my market would be approximately 12k for a VSG, or go the Medical Tourism route, which is running me about 4.3k, That's a big difference, obviously. Complications can happen anywhere with any surgeon. If you do your homework and feel comfortable with the surgeon, it shouldn't matter what country you do it at, imo.
