  1. I love in the Westminster area. I was sleeved in Tijuana on January 10. My surgery went well but because of a doctor directed medication order I ended up with a major clot and dead intestine. Has anyone else had extra complications? I get very down that I can't go to the gym. I can't wear a pair of jeans because I have a wound vac on.

Anyone else in Colorado been through something similar?

Who was your doc in TJ?
    Dr. Almanza was my surgeon

  2. So I was going to be very discreet about my surgery and only told 4 people.... my business partner (to explain the time off), a friend here in Idaho who had gastric bypass years ago (for some insight and support), my sister in Wisconsin (she accompanied me to TJ for surgery), and my parents in Arizona(because my sister convinced me how pissed they'd be if they found out afterwards).

In the course of 3 weeks, my partner told her whole family and any friends that asked why I wasn't around at Christmas time. My friend told a number of mutual friends because "it's no big deal and they will all see you losing weight anyways", my sister told most of the rest of my family, including brother, nieces and nephews, and my mom told any family members that my sister missed -aunts and uncles, and everybody she talks to in her retirement park down in Arizona.

Today I walked into my beauty salon and my nail tech insisted on knowing how I lost so much weight. I'm a terrible lier so ended up telling her about the surgery and kept the entire salon of patrons entertained with my tale of bariatric surgery in Tijuana. One of them ended up getting the name and contact info for my surgeon!

So my original plan to keep this a secret has gone all to ****, but Luckily I have had nothing but supportive feedback. If anyone is saying anything negative, at least they are doing it behind my back

I didn't want to tell anyone either but of course one person told another. I went to Tijuana and I have a lot of people telling me how reckless and stupid I was to do that. I have a friend that tells me home great their boyfriends are because they would spend money at the best places money could buy. Her boyfriend would never let her go to Tijuana let alone have major surgery in a strip mall.

I made a decision for my health and I thought I was pretty brave. I so wish my friends would stop judging me!

  6. I am no expert on getting int he Protein, but find what you like and add Protein powder to it. sprinkle it in your eggs or cottage cheese or greek yogart. 5 oz of greek yogart is 12 mg protein, so with some powder in it like you could boost it up nicely without having to eat more. I will say one thing with certainty. I ran wound centers and have put 100's of vacs on people. It is the best treatment you could be doing for fast healing. I know the dressing changes are not fun, but thank God only 3 times a week!. sorry for your complications. God speed!

I was having a hard time with dairy products but maybe I will give the yogurt a chance, I do love yogurt!!!

  7. I am so sorry that you are having a difficult time of it...It is going to take some time for you to get your strength back and your body back in condition. Try the shakes mentioned above...Others probably have some good ideas.

I had a vac for 10 months. Annoying little machine isn't it.....hoping for a quick recovery for you hun!

When I was at my worst in the 5 month stay at the hospital because of complications from my surgery. A very smart nurse said to me...how do you climb a mountain... Being in so much pain and not really listening I said I don't know. And she said....One step at a time.

That is how you have to deal with it all too. One situation at a time. Be good to yourself and work toward getting better by keeping positive as much as possible okay...It is very important that you see this as temporary and not a looonnnnnng haul...K

Sometimes you forget about one step at a time. I can't imagine a 5 month stay at the hospital, that must have been horrible.

Thank you for taking time out of your day and responding, it means a lot to know I am not alone.

  8. I have had some major issues since I had my sleeve done on January 10th in Tijuana. I ended up with a large blood clot in the vessel to my liver. I also had to have a foot of my small intestines removed. Having both of these surgeries in less than 2 weeks has left me weak and malnourished. I need some help with the easiest to digest protien that will be easy on my stomach. I fell and popped out all of my staples so I have a wound vac on. I have to admit I have been really down, I didn't think I could take one more minute of pain. Anyone have any advice for food choices and a little motivation?

    Thanks,

  9. Went to my first zumba class today and I loved it! The only thing is I am not graceful and I don't pick up dance steps easily, though I do have a good sense of rhythm. How many classes until you knew most of the moves? The instructor doesn't really stop to show us the moves because most people are regulars. I just tried to keep up and at least keep moving.

Any tips? I am going to look at some YouTube videos but anything else I can do? I get two more classes at the intro rate of 3 for 15 but I have to use them by Jan 20 so I will get a little more practice.

I would never in a million years have tried this before losing weight with the sleeve. I had a grin on my face the whole time and was so proud of myself!

Oh my gosh I love Zumba, best exercise ever. Don't worry about the steps, you will learn to listen to the beat of the music and what steps go with them. The better you get the more you LOVE it I am 11 days out of surgery and I can't wait to get back to Zumba. By your 4th or 5th class you will have learned so much and remember nobody looks at you, they are looking at the instructor.

  10. Night before 3 weeks of liquid! Sleeve surgery date set for Feb 10, 2014. I am feeling positive and nervous at the same time. Any good suggestions on how not to stray on the liquid diet?

I put it in my mind that if I wanted results I needed to stick to whatever I was told to do. In 4 more days and I will be able to have some soft food. I look at this as my new life and I want to start off right. After your surgery it is a lot easier to stick to the diet because Clear Liquids is basically all you can handle.

Try not to worry, pretty soon this won't be an issue. GOOD LUCK, you can do it!

  11. Well in all honesty I don't have a doctor, just lost my healthcare coverage and job. I am following my post- op instructions to the "T" because I am so afraid of any complications.

Maybe I was wrong weighing myself over the last 6 days. After being 140 pounds overweight for the last year i think it made me want to see something good for once.

The scale is hidden for a week at a time, that is the most I can promise.

  12. I am 9 days out of surgery and have lost 28 pounds. Today was the first day I haven't lost anything. But wow 28 pounds in less than 2 weeks, pretty happy. My daughter will be hiding the scale until Friday.

I really want to try on some clothes but my stomach is so bloated, can anyone tell me when this horrible bloating will go away.

    This is my first post????
