  1. I really enjoy Wheat Thins Fiber Selects crackers. Garden vegetable is the only flavor I've seen. I have five of them in the evening, for 40 calories, and I usually have a light laughing cow or a little red pepper hummus with them. I also really love the Parmesan garlic triscuit thin crisis, but find them slightly less filling due to lower fiber content. Hope you enjoy!
  2. You are doing GREAT! You really can't overdo liquids. You can get dehydrated much more easily than the opposite. And please if possible, DO stay off that scale. You KNOW you are losing weight. Just give your healing body a break!8 weeks from now you're going to look back at this post and smile. I promise!
  3. This is so sad! She's so totally twisted up in her eating disorder issues that she refuses to be educated about your obesity-related health issues. Obesity itself is a deadly disease. Perhaps if you had cancer she would be more supportive in your seeking a cure? Bizarre and toxic! Have to let this one go for now. I'm very sorry for the hurt you are experiencing. WLS one of the best decisions I've ever made!

    42 up and pregnant

45 and pg 6 months post op. Was NOT trying but would dearly love a little one. Was actively using birth control faithfully. History of 3 miscarriages and one son who I'm crazy about. Haven't even told my husband because of all the previous miscarriages. Have had low progesterone in the past so need to get levels checked and maybe supplement the progesterone. Blessings!
  5. At six months out, I increased my daily calories from 900 to 1200 per day. I was only eating 2 meals previously, since I hadn't found anyting I could eat in the morning without feeling queasy. Now I've added Greek yogurt & fruit for Breakfast, and an ounce of nuts on my way home from work in the evening. I also have a few Triscuits with a light Lauging Cow in the evening for a snack. Oddly, my weight loss has accelerated. I had been losing about 1 pound per week, but now it's closer to 1 3/4 pound. I've only been doing this for 2 weeks. I also started increasing my Fiber intake (with Fiber Choice) but I have not changed my exercise routine or general activity level at all. I certainly feel more satiated. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

    Cereal?

I loved Kashi Go Lean prior to surgery - I ate it for years every single morning, because the fiber and Protein content is so high. I have tried it several times over the past 6 months since surgery (I think I still have the box I was eating during my pre-op diet - maybe time to clean ou the pantry?) but man that stuff expands like CRAZY once it hits my new tiny tummy. Feels like I just swallowed a bowling ball. I really only started incorporating starchy carbs into my diet in the past week: 5 wheat thins Fiber Selects with a Light Laughing Cow for an evening snack. It doesn't make me feels too full - just enough so I don't start grabbing for less healthy foods. I'm really happy eating Greek yogurt with fresh berries for Breakfast at this point, but maybe one of these days my formerly dear friend Kashi will be a part of my life again!

    Is juicing ideal

Juices have not been part of my prescribed plan. Even though they might be OK at first, eventually you want to be in the habit of eating whole fruits and veggies, which give us the Fiber and the feeling of fullness along with the nutrients. liquids and juices slide right through our litte tummies, without making us feel full. Real food sticks around for a couple hours. Purees and Soups are good when you get off the Clear Liquids, but I don't know if I'd want to start a juice habit, delicious as it might be.

    Emotional eating

Hi Kellie, You will find many of us have serious food issues on this site! I didn't stop binge eating until I got my surgery date. Then, somehow the hope that I felt at the knowledge that I would be sleeved soon helped me a lot in the two weeks prior to surgery. Once sleeved, I really had to start focusing on alternative coping mechanisms when I'm stressed, because eating isn't exactly possible, especially at first. I didn't feel the urge to reach for junk for several months, which was great. Then the urges gradually started to return, and I'm having to focus on getting to the gym, breathing, stretching, even a little meditation/prayer at times to deal with the cravings when my head hunger hits. Going to this site is also great! There is so much support here! Best to you!

    My BEAUTIFUL CLOTHES......

I have been loving ebay for used Dockers! I've been through four sizes now and the current size is starting to feel loose again. Wow, that feels good. I have a "fantasy" Ann Taylor velvet jacket I bought from Goodwill that I aspire to wear by this fall. It is so beautiful, and I paid $3.50!!! Hee hee!
  10. FAB-U-LOUS post, Linda! We need more leaders like you out there setting us straight! I hope lots of of people read this post and take it to heart!

Slippery Slope. Tell me to quit grazing

CJ, You are so right to call this a slippery slope! It's so much easier for us to slip back into old habits than to develop new healthy ones, eh? Try planning your menu for the day the night before and just STICK with it. I just started journaling personally because I was struggling, and I've increased my meals to four per day - they are still around 200 calories, more like 120 for Breakfast, and very few carbs, except in the evening when I come in under calories and allow myself a few Fiber Selects crackers to make up the difference. Are your meals packed with dense Proteins? How about Beans for an alternative? Do you wait for an hour after your meal and then start drinking your fluids or Protein shake? Are you getting in at least 64 oz Fluid per day - maybe you need more? If you're doing everything already and still feel the need to snack, spray your tongue with minty breath spray/chew some gum/brush your teeth/apply minty lip gloss. Any or all of these tricks make me want to drink nothing but Water, because any other flavor doesn't go well with mint! Best wishes!

    Sleep Study question

I scheduled the appointment to meet with the doc like they asked, then called once to reschedule, then finally canceled it. I'm a medical professional myself, and my patients do this to me sometimes too! I never intended to use the cpap anyway, since I was convinced that the weight loss would cure the apnea. I haven't had a follow up sleep study to confirm this, but I sure wake up much better rested these days. I actually WANT to get out of bed! Like a 5 year old on Christmas! Blessings on you!
  13. Comfy, I had surgery the month before you and discovered yesterday that I am pg. We used birth control consistently, but its not 100% effective, clearly! The only times I've been pregnant in the past were when we actively tried, but I think this weight loss made me more fertile! So do be on guard if you're not using birth control. There is an entire forum dedicated to sleeve pregnancy and I just started reading it yesterday and I feel encouraged. Women seem to do very well with their pregnancies after sleeving, even if its earlier than planned. I do plan to increase my calories, and journal all my food so the docs can review it. Best wishes!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

Hey MR, just promise us that YOU won't stop posting. I kind of love you . . .
  15. Just stumbled across Fiber Choice chewable orange & pomegranate/berry at Dollar Tree of all places! I don't know if they are at other Dollar Tree stores, but I will be looking tomorrow. The expiration date is 2015. It's the regular-size bottle of 90 tablets (3 g fiber per 2 tablets), and the label says take up to 3 times per day. So it's a 1 1/2 month supply for $1! These are $12 at the drugstore. I doubt they will be around for long. I found Premier shakes at DT 5 months ago and they were gone in a week. While you're there, check out the bags of frozen Idaho blueberries - 12 oz. for $1. These are great in smoothies. I've been buying them for at least six months. This was my favorite DT bargain before today, but the Fiber Choice wins this week for certain!

    Do people treat you different?

I genuinely always felt like I had to be the jolly, fat girl who was nice to everybody and never stood up for myself. I think people treated me well because I dressed well, was well educated, and bent over backwards to make everyone happy all the time. Now I get to relax and just be me. I have the confidence to stand up for myself when I need to, which feels great. I think maybe people are nicer? I do notice myself turning a few more heads...
  17. I found myself salivating while reading this article. I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs. Very interesting study, however!

    Inches or Pounds?

I'm voting the other way! I think the inches lost are what allow us to wear smaller sizes, and that feels incredible. If you are working out with weights and taking in lots of Protein, you may not see the weight go down as quickly than if you allow yourself to lose more muscle mass. You can be a very strong, healthy 175 pound woman, but you can also be a very weak, unhealthy 150 pound woman. I choose strong and healthy! Plus, the scale can lie, and the tape measure doesn't.

Ladies: How much loss 1st week?

I refused to weigh myself for the first month. I didn't even want to look at the scale when I went to the doctor's office, but then I ended up taking a peak and remember being happy, but couldn't tell you the number. I do allow myself to weight myself once a week now, but frankly I just feel happy when I stick to the plan. Not eating garbage, not binge eating - what a feeling of freedom! And the fit of my pants tell me all I need to know!
  20. I regret that I didn't do this sooner!!! Man, is it great to have all those "X's" gone from my clothes labels!!!

    Victories and short comings

You are so brave for attempting this class! Bravo for lasting for a full hour! My work-outs still max out at about 30-45 minutes, and I love them, but no way I could last a full hour traying a new workout I'd never done before, in the middle of the class of skinny people! Our muscle tone hasn't even had a chance to start bouncing back because we're losing weight so fast. Let the negative crap go and focus on the fact that you could never have walked into that room 5 months ago and lasted for 60 minutes!! Congrats!

My addiction is getting in the way

I totally feel for you!!! I am a binge eater and the further I get from my surgery date the louder the siren song of Cheddar cheese Pretzel Pieces seems to call me! There is a chatter of lying voices that play in my head telling me that I'll feel a total release and satisfaction if I just hide out with a bag of something crunchy & salty. I know they are lying but my gosh they are seductive! I understand that therapy or Overeaters Anonymous can help with this, but for the time being I'm reading a book called 50 Ways to Soothe Yourself without food. It's a tough read - I actually have to do "homework" - taking notes and practicing techniques as I read. Tonight I had to look away as I covered up my son's leftovers, grab some mint gum, and then run to the computer to login to Bariatric Pal! As I'm sitting here now I can't believe I was seconds away from grabbing a bag of cheddar pretzels, so it really wasn't my stomach talking to me. And I feel calm and satisfield again now. But it could have gone either way. I wish you encouragement and success. You need to find some way to recognize and then tune out the lying voices that tell you to eat when you're not hungry. Don't try to do this all on your own. Groups, books, individual therapies, yoga, meditation, whatever it takes for YOU! There are answers out there for us!

10 Steps to Breaking a Bad Habit

Great advice! I've been just recently slipping back into an old habit of allowing myself to snack. My 27 pound 4 year- old son eats Prezel Crisps all day long and they sit around in a bowl 100% of the time waiting for him to grab a few, and recently for me to grab a few. I think I'll just put a lid on them and keep them out of my sight! (must remember to feed tiny son, however!)
  24. My lunch is Taco Bell pintos and cheese if I forget to bring, and am in a hurry. f I have more time, I enjoy the bowls or naked burritos from Mo's, Qdoba or Chipotle. I have meat with fajita veggies, black Beans, and usually a couple different salsas. I add guac if I'm feeling decadent (it's also a great source of potassium which helps with my leg cramps). These are usually 2-3 meals worth of food for me, but I'm a big fan of leftovers!

If your brake lights stop working

Isn't that funny, I read the post and thought about robbery and car- jacking too! I think Texas must be a wonderful place where you feel safe!
