  1. I might be stubborn but I don't really believe in those studies. We all chose to have this surgery for different reasons but all share the same goal to be healthy. I think this is a good debate but in the wrong forum, if you are super concerned for others behalf then shouldn't be posting this in the "post-op" forums. We all had surgery and if you had the sleeve like me you know that its not something that is reversible like the lap-band is. From my own personal experience the band caused me more grief than good when I had it and had horrid acid reflux. But I don't think the sleeve surgery will cause any cancer. You are scaring more people than doing good.

    What is your theme song?

I guess the one song that has been my theme song has been "All of Me" by John Legend...reason why my boyfriend of 3 years sang it too me multiple times to me even when I was in the hospital.
  3. I wore jeans a week after surgery because I had a wedding I had to shoot. I had no problem with it rubbing on my incision marks at all. But some people are different from others. When I went back to work I did wear slacks and jeans. Now that I am four months out I wear jeans all the time. I love the way they feel on me since I am down 6 pant sizes.
  4. When I was getting around to telling people I was very choosy on who I told. I told my best friends, and few family members before the surgery date was set. I lost quite a few friends from having the surgery because they were very negative about it and told me I was quote "taking the easy way out" now after the surgery I tell everybody and their brother about it because I am very proud of myself for taking this step to make myself healthier.

Converting from a band to a Sleeve

Hi there! I am a converter from the band to the sleeve, and honestly I will say I love it! I was eighteen when I went with the lap band, and only lost 50 pounds with it. Over the course of the five years I gained the 50 pounds and even more. Before when I chose weight loss surgery they decided to do the band because I was so young, and the sleeve wasn't an option because it wasn't around. Well the band caused more trouble than good, I was left with acid reflux. But in November 2013 I was converted all in one surgery from the band to the sleeve. I jumped through a lot of hoops for it because normally bariatric surgeons do not like doing revision surgeries. My surgeon when she went in there was even surprised I could get food or a fill done because my last surgeon didn't do a good job. I highly recommend the switch you will see a better result overall. I couldn't be happier.

    Irregular cycles still?

I was in the same position you are in when I had surgery. I started my monthly right about two weeks before surgery and it ran its course for that two weeks and stopped. Then right on surgery date about two hours before I started right back up and had a period for three months past. I know certain surgeons have you stop birth control right before surgery as a precautionary reason for blood clots. I never stopped mine because it was surgically placed. Anyways, your body is changing and loosing that extra weight so the hormones will be going CRAZY.
  7. They will not plaster your weight all over the place. If you are very concerned about this just request not to share information other than with the people who are directly involved.
  8. I am down since surgery 50 but I lost 35 before surgery so a total of 85 and I can see a major difference. I went from a size 26/28 to a size 22/24 and my boobs went from a size 50DDD to a 48C. I see a MAJOR difference!
  9. Even if they work at the hospital you are having surgery at they cannot stop at the nurses station and get your information. Its a breach of HIPPA if they do. Your information is safe with you, now if your neighbor is working on you specifically in the recovery room then she will have to know your weight information. Other than that, they cannot ask for your information even if they work for the hospital.
  10. I think we all go through this when we start loosing a significant amount of weight. I personally feel the same, just can't eat as much and kicked old unhealthy habits to the curve. It took me a while to really stare at myself in the mirror and see a change. I am down 85 pounds and I still see myself as I did before I lost the weight. We all have that "AHHA" moments and they all come at different stages and multiple times. I have had TONS of people who I talk to on a regular basis and people I don't ask me questions about how I am loosing the weight and so on. I write a blog, I tell them to read my blog and come back with questions. There are only certain questions that get to me, and usually I blow a head gasket when they are asked. My blog is my therapist now days instead of people.

    My 600lb life

I personally don't watch that show. From reading what you wrote it sounded like she wasn't mentally ready for a life change. Which is possible, we are not her so I cannot say what was going through her head when she decided to go with weight loss surgery. My highest weight was 397 back before I had surgery and I had to sit and really think about the life decisions I was going to make with having this surgery. Its not an easy way out of obesity, and I think that's the social stigma that many think. I have had friends ask me about it and I tell them its by far not the easy way out and if you think it is then its not for you. My grandfather was 500 pounds maybe over, he died from being overweight. Congested Heart failure actually and that was caused by his weight. I think if the surgery was available to him as an option back when he could have it he would have chose it. But the two years before he passed away he wasn't ready to loose weight even after his PCP urged him to start eating healthy. He would tell me all the time that he doesn't want me like him, and I am happy to say I wont be but I miss him to this day. I cannot condemn the Penny lady on TLC over her decisions because each person is different, even if this woman was in the public eye on a reality tv show. I think of TLC as just a drama show thats all.
  12. Well the smartass in me would have come up with something epic like a sex change or something like that. But you don't have to explain anything to them unless YOU want too. I would say f*ck it and forget they exist. If they HAVE to ask you why you mystically vanished tell them you needed a little breather.

    depressed

I am so with you! I have been flooded with mixed emotions lately its been crazy. It is because we are loosing weight and our bodies are releasing hormones like crazy. I have been depressed, happy, and horny all in one day and I feel like a crazy person. And talk about tired as well, holy cow I have all this energy but I am mentally exhausted at the end of the day because of the wild ride called emotions. It will all settle down once your body realizes that the weight loss is here to stay for a bit. My doctor told me its because my body doesn't want to loose the weight because its so comfortable with being overweight for a long time. Keep your head up, it will soon will pass.

    Red Rash!

I had a rash too after my surgery but it was caused because I have yeast issues and the yeast went into the incisions. I would put some powder on it and take benadryl. The body will react in different ways from having such a invasive surgery.

    Pierced My Nipples

You are so BRAVE! I tell you as I am hugging my boobs LOL I could never do that but its awesome finding that "new" confidence that wasn't there before. I my confidence has led me to actually go out and dance with friends and be confident on how I dance because I don't care what others think. Rock on sista!

I am a Michigan Sleever since November 2013!
  17. My swallow study was a nightmare. It was Barium, and I had to drink all of it when I puked it right up after the test and continued to puke for a couple hours. I think everybody is different when it comes to the test.

    Side Sleeping ?

When I had surgery I was only comfortable on my side the night after surgery as well. I invested in a body pillow when I got home because I also sleep on my belly and the body pillow helps a lot to make it comfy and also get a better nights sleep.

    PUREE Stage.....yuck! Help!

When I was on puree foods I was able to have like a cracker with it so I had melba toast on hand to stomach it. I loved refried Beans with some low fat sour cream and chicken. The chicken was from the can so it was already most and easy to puree. I love avocados with a passion and would mash them with the chicken with taco seasoning and eat it. But I was so happy when I moved on from puree, it was so gross.

    The Easy Way Out

That thread was disgusting to read! I know there are a lot of people out there that think that weight loss surgery is the "Easy" way out but to all who have had surgery knows all too well it is not. I fight the battle everyday making better choices and fighting old habits. Those people are worthless in my mind, if they cannot accept or get through their heads that not everybody is like them. It bugs me a little what people say not about me but overall about weight loss surgery.
