Washington Indiana here! (: for those not familiar... I'm about 45 mins north of Evansville, 2 hours south of Indy and 15 mins from Vincennes. My surgery will be in Carmel with Dr. Diaz. I go Wednesday bright and early to Carmel for my preop testing and evaluation! My BMI is crazy high plus I have a couple comorbidities so my insurance approval was quite fast. I received my letter stating approval 4 months and 4 days after my initial consult. I am 31 yrs old and unfortunately/fortunately on Medicare/Medicaid. I was deemed disabled 2 years ago this month due to ocular histoplasmosis. I am 100% blind in my left eye and have currently lost about 35% of vision in my right eye. My good one hemorrhages and I have to get injections to stop the bleeding or it scars quickly and I lose vision. Unfortunately my eyesight will never return and so far there is no corrective treatment. The decision to have gastric bypass is one that took me quite some time to make. Hah I was so on the fence for soooooo long! Now being blind, I need to reinvent ME! The new ME won't be this big. She will be healthy, happy, and flourishing for the rest of her life!
I wish you all, all the best wherever you might be in your journey! (:

Anyone from Evansville or the area that want to meet and have our own support group?
I'm in Washington! (: There are quite a few us here who are doing online support groups because there aren't any physical groups anywhere near us. I've thought about starting a support group but I didn't know where to begin! (:

Yeah I'm wondering the same. I like to know what's next.. Lol I'm just crazy impatient!

No my surgeon is Dr. Diaz. I was on a limb between him and Dr. Evanson though. Lol My mom had dr. Caccuci (sp???) and wasn't happy with her so I knew I wanted to go with someone else so I started asking around. I took whoever could get me in for my consult the soonest. Lol

I received my approval letter today (dated May 8 exactly 4 months after my initial consult!!!!!!!) and my preop testing is at Carmel May 21! I couldn't be more excited! Today was one of the best Mondays yet! (:

I live I. Logansport it's north of Indy. Dr. Evanson is doing mine. Angel just went on maternity leave so I am dealing with Shalanda and love her!! How long after ur approval did you get ur surgery?
I guess Angel being gone would be why I'm not getting kind of replies. Do you know how I could reach Shalanda? Gosh I've been waiting since January! I'm ready to get this show on the road. Lol

I am on medicaid too and I had to go through the 6 month of supervised dieting in order for them to approve my surgery. However it didn't take the full 6 months to complete because my doctor had previous documentation in my file. So she used that and I only had to actually go through 2 or 3 months worth of the actual supervised dieting vs. 6 months. It all averaged out in the end because all they requested was 6 months of documentation and she had that in my file. So with all the precious documentation you have hopefully your doctor will be able to use some of that like mine did. Best of luck !!! Hang in there ... the start up process always seems to be the longest part because it's a lot of waiting but it's well worth the wait.
I'm STILL waiting for my PCP to release my medical records to Dr. Diaz. Ugh! I had to have a sleep study and pulmonary function done before she'd even consider it. It's gone by super fast so I guess it's not so bad having to tackle these hurdles. I'm an impatient patient! Lol

In SW Indiana! -15 to -30 degree wind chills for us lately. Warm fuzzy snow boots, layers, layers, layers when outside. Blankets upon blankets plus layers at home. Trying to keep the furnace at a constant temperature so no one ends up sick.

I have gastroparesis but have to have a bunch of tests before my PCP will even release my medical records to my surgeon for insurance approval. So I'm kind of at a stand still now. Psych eval went GREAT though! (:
I hope once I have surgery the gastroparesis won't be such a problem!
Good luck!

Politics............ Grammatically speaking. On a forum. Tsk tsk!
Preach on Madam! (:

I'm still pre-op but I'm worried about dumping afterwards. I guess I'm mostly worried because apparently I have tachycardia and dumping mimics the symptoms that I experience with the tachycardia... :|

I'm kind of a picky eater so this is concerning me. I'm still pre op so I have time to ask questions.

Wow. I already have National Geographic boobs that, when unleashed, point straight down. And I'm pre-op....
Ugh. Me too! I mentioned that little factor to my SO last night and he said well... Boobs are boobs... They don't define you. BUT. He's not understanding.... Boobs kinda do define women. So I'm a little concerned there but not enough to let it change my mind about RNY! (:

This is one thing the surgeon I chose stresses from the very beginning. I haven't really looked for chewables (still pre-op) but I do have some gigantic pill form that I am taking now.
There are soooooo many websites you can order Vitamins from that they shouldn't be hard to find. (:

hair, skin, & nails is an awesome vitamin! My mom has been taking it since her surgery (4 years ago) and it's really helped. After having my son my hair was falling out by the handful. She gave me a bottle... I've been taking it almost 4 years myself and nails look good. Hair has stopped falling out... I missed a couple months of taking it... Hair fell out like crazy and nails peeled really bad.

I think I already hit information overload. Lol I like to go into stuff knowing everything I possibly can.
It's my understanding that it's a fairly common thing.
When I my surgeon read over my medical history he didn't seem at all concerned by it and only said lapband or sleeving really aren't the answers for me.

Is there anyone here who has (or had) gastroparesis (a condition where the stomach doesn't empty completely) going into RNY? I'm questioning how this is going to effect my new pouch once I get to that point? It's definitely on my list of questions for my surgeon!

I haven't gotten a surgery date yet but I'm enjoying all of the stuff I won't be able to have afterwards. I told my boyfriend tonight that I want subway one more time. He asked why bc all I get is a cold cut combo with tons and tons and tons of veggies.. He said well you can just get a salad after surgery and still have what you get now. That's NOT the point! Lol it's fast food. Period. Soda, I stopped a week ago.
I'm a little concerned about what will or won't agree with my stomach after surgery.

First off. ... Woman you do NOT look 54! Holy moly!
Second. I think I follow you bc you are so straight forward. That inspires me!
Third. I'm worried only slightly about my friendships. All of my friends are smaller than me. Like as in size 0, 1, 10.... I have very few friends that I regularly socialize with who struggle with being overweight. I'm not at all saying I don't have any. I have plenty. So with that being said, my health, this surgery (whenever it may happen) are of the utmost importance to me.
You nailed it! (:

You look amazing!
I have 2 children already but we do want more. I couldn't see myself carrying another baby being as heavy as I am. I was miserable during my last 5 years ago.
My mom, grandma, aunts, uncle... All diabetes. So my gestational diabetes diagnosis wasn't a shock in 2009., the GD resolved itself after having him in 2010. The shock came last year when my son was 3, routine lab work came back with an a1c of 14. I tried controlling it via diet and exercise but it wasn't budging a bit! I was put on oral meds. Then Victoza. I LOVED the victoza! Except for a side effect. I have gastroparesis and it was making me sick. But it served also as an appetite suppressant. So I was totally okay with losing weight even if I was sick and keeping my sugars down. Dr stopped the victoza and started me on lantus. Here I am today...

For a minute there this thread started to creep up from PG-13 to X-rated! Haha
