  2. Hello tearin. Congrats on your 30 lb weight loss. I had surgery Jan 28, 2014 and I'm having a hard time too. I feel like I've made a mistake. We just had a death in the family and it has been very hard to sit with family ( most don't know about my surgery) and not eat. A group of us went out to eat and I just sat there. I got invited to girls night tonight to have Mojito's or some kind of mixed drink and I didn't even answer the phone calls. This has effected every aspect of my life. My daily life, my social life. Do you want to hear the worst part of all. Not only does my life that used to be active and full consist of sitting at home as a recluse but the biggest kicker of all is I've only lost 9 lbs. I am devastated. All this no food no nothing and I don't even have a thing to show for it. How my body can sustain itself on a protein shake, yogurt, low fat pudding and a cheese stick is beyond me. I'm sorry for not bring uplifting which is what you need right now but sometimes I just gave to be real. Hang in there and feel free to vent. I know it's hard but thank goodness you at least have a payout for all this work.

    Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

I tried chicken yesterday. I ate about 3/4 of it. It was one of those individual Perdue pieces. I had no problem with it. I don't feel like I even had the surgery sometimes. Is that a normal potion size for someone 3 weeks out

Sorry you missed the call but congrats! That's fantastic. Can't wait to hear your date.
  7. Hello. I am 5 days post - op. I was surprised to see Tomato Soup as one of the food options. Does anyone know what other types of soup would be considered whatever is acceptable for post op. I was under the impression clear liquids would be broth only. If tomato soup made with lactaid milk is ok I'm wondering what else is. Also can protein powder be put in the soup? I'm currently only getting approx 300 calories a day and only 30 protein so I'm trying to find ways to add it. I put it in sugar free pudding and it was fine. Last question is. I was using Muscle Milk powder but I'm almost out of it. What is everyone's favorite or best choice for protein. Thank you :-)

Wow, he's done a lot of surgeries! Sounds like your in good hands. I am 3 weeks post op today. I originally had a band but never really lost much weight so I decided to do the bypass.

Fantastic! I have BCBS as well and they covered it! What hospital? I went through Boston Medical because I chose Dr. Hess as he is highly regarded and recommended. I think Brigham and Women's has a great program too. They all vary a little but ultimately they are all good.

    What About Your Friends?

I say part of losing weight brings with it all the changes and yes even social changes. It's a shame our society is so shallow but it is. Some will have friends who they feel are below them to make themselves feel superior. Others surround themselves with the opposite to try and bring themselves up. Your friend has some insecurity issues that has more to do with her. Focus on creating new friendships that are healthy. Although I haven't lost weight with the RNY over the years as I have evolved and changed to respect myself more I'm realizing some of my friends that I grew up with are really selfish people. I can hardly believe I didn't realize it more back then. It still hurts to grow away from old friends. I'll be interested to hear some of the feedback from other experiences as well. By the way you sound like a great friend anyone would be lucky to have.

Gemstone. I'm so sorry. I'm glad you know what might be the culprit but sorry this happened to you. Hopefully they can figure it out, fix it and you'll be on your way. Please keep us posted on your progress.

    2 week Post op Appointment

Not for 4 weeks which would mean it will be 6 weeks before I see the dietician at 6 weeks post op.
  15. I am curious? What did everyone's post op appointment consist of. Did you have blood work? Urine checked? Did they just look at your incision marks or did they check your stomach by applying pressure?

    2 week Post op Appointment

Thank you RJ. So they did bloodwork for you too. Interesting. I may go to my primary doc and request bloodwork.

    2 week Post op Appointment

No, I can't email the doc. I should probably call the dietician who wasn't there on the day I had an appointment. They give an example diet and your only supposed to eat that. It's so limited it's almost strange to me. My husband makes an awesome chicken soup but there are veggies in there. I'm not supposed to eat veggies. I would love to ask the dietician about that. I think according to my paperwork I'm allowed to add chicken, tuna, and egg to my stage 4 diet. That's it. I don't really like eggs or tuna much. So that leaves chicken. Oh well I signed up for this.

    The Slow Losers Thread

So sorry. Really. It just is so frustrating isn't it. I used to run 3 - 5 miles 4 nights a week and I was still a big girl too. No matter what I do it seems it's never enough. I think why starve if I'm still going to be fat. I am regretting this surgery already. No food, no cocktails, no fun right now. I have no energy compared to before the surgery. It seems like the trouble is not relative to the results. Or lack thereof. Ok, having said that I also have the other side of me that still sits in denial that this is happening. I must really be losing weight. I hope it's not real. This is NOT happening to me. Then I get positive and try to fight my negative feelings. It's too late now so I just have to keep going but I'd be lying if I said I was happy.

    PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!

I didn't know what PB2 was so I Googled it and it is a powdered processed food. They turn the peanuts into powder but extract some of its natural components. The thing I'm not loving about this way of eating so far is all the crystal light and aspartame I ingest on a daily basis. I don't thing that's all that healthy. It's in yogurt, pudding, just about all the food. Anyone else ever worry about it?

    2 week Post op Appointment

So they did do bloodwork for you. I was surprised they didn't do bloodwork for me. They wait until 3 months. It really is strange how different every doc is. Thank you for sharing.

    The Slow Losers Thread

Jane I know you were asking Melissa but what I do for a protein shake is 1 scoop of Muscle Milk and one scoop of Matrix. Matrix has more protein per scoop but I hate the taste. MM has less protein but gives a great flavor. I add in lactaid milk and water. My friend gave me some cacao spelled something like that which is an all natural cocoa. That can flavor it too. So using 2 scoops of the protein will really help get the protein in and to make it taste better you can add carnation instant breakfast, natural sweeteners, extracts, etc.

I love you! Haaa. I really needed to hear that. With the band I would lose maybe a pound or 2 here and there but the scale at least went down instead of up. I guess it will be more of the same with the bypass but I like the thought of being the one to keep it off. I'm going to work hard to get that protein in this week. Hopefully it will help. Great ideas on high protein foods too. Thank you.
