Great attitude Rach! I know it's a bummer but I guess long term is the best way to think. :-) -
The Slow Losers Thread
Meintraining replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much!!!!!! I needed a day to grieve the fact I would not loose like most people. A day to be pissed about it. Although I am mad as hell, these are the cards I've been dealt. Thank you for your support! My doc was almost laughing that I was so upset. He had a student with him and he was telling the student that many patients get emotional because they've experienced a lifetime of diet failure. He was compassionate but sort of found it slightly amusing. I'm starting to wonder if it's because he knows I will lose. That my fears are unfounded. I don't think he could truly know what it's like to eat broth for 17 days and only lose 7 lbs but I will lose. Not like I want but I will lose none the less. After I get out of these restrictive phases I think I'll be a lot better. I want to try to up my protein and exercise. I'm just so weak. I have no energy. On a positive note, I was excited today because I made a scrambled egg and was full before eating all of it. On the liquid phase I was worried I had no restriction but today I realize I do! Thank you so much for the support!!!!!! Really I appreciate it. Hope your doing well -

That is a great question. Does protein really cause weight loss or does it just keep one from feeling hungry? -
Just curious. How much did everyone loose when they were 2 weeks post op?

The Slow Losers Thread
Meintraining replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my post op today and I've had a rough day. I'm grateful for this thread. I thought I'd be the only slow loser. I thought I was in a club unto myself and I didn't want to be in it. I had a band for 7 years and I've struggled for every last pound of weight loss. I finally realized I will never be able to find weight loss success on my current path so I decided to have gastric bypass on 01/28/14. My fear was and has always been that I would not lose weight like other people. Even with the surgery. I've experienced a lifetime of disappointment with this. I almost get mad when I see shows that show an overweight person stuffing their face with twinkles and crap. I've never been like that and I resent being judged that way. So at my 2 week post op when I only lost 7 lbs all my fears took hold of me. Yes even with the bypass my body will fight me. Fight me for every last pound. I was hoping by changing things so dramatically it would somehow shock my body into change. I must realize I'm in the slow losers club now and always. Regardless of my situation. It sucks but it is the way it is. I was also seeing all the posts saying I'm down 30, 20, 15 lbs. the least I've seen is 10 - 12. I just desperately wanted to be one of them and I got a quick dose of dream crashing. This was the week to find out if I'd be a big loser. It doesn't appear that will be the case. After 17 days of protein and broth and only 7 lbs change it sure made me bummed. I'll get over it. Thank you for this thread. While I'm sad to see there are others who have not lost their weight fast. I'm happy there is a thread and I don't feel so alone. -

Thank you so much. I didn't realize they waited until 3 months to do bloodwork. The slow loser thing is really crushing my spirit. I hope to get past this but I'm just so overcome with frustration. -

Post op soups and protein
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
On my stage 3 tomato soup is listed as an example with low fat lactaid milk for added protein. I was shocked it was on there also. I ate only what was on the example menu. It is strange how many different versions there are. -

Thank you SnowDaisy for your response. I too have been dieting for a while on a low food intake diet so I get that I lost weight hleading up to this but it's just so hard to stay positive when I'm trying so hard but don't reap results. I will get past this I'm just bummed right now. The aftercare thing was very strange. I wonder if that is standard at the 2 week mark? What's worse is my blood pressure was 96 over 60. . -
I live south of Boston too! I love the seasons but I'm ready for this one to be over.

2 weeks post op weight loss
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my official 2 week post op today and I am in fact down just 7 lbs in 17 days. I'm disgusted! Its the culmination for me of years and years of dieting disappointment. My ultimate fear has been realized. I've blamed myself for being fat. Doctors discard patients issues and blame it on overweight. I had the band for 7 years and lost very little but my food intake decreased. I could never understand why at weight watchers I would be the one to lose .5 lbs to someone else's 4 lbs. I look around me and everyone eats a full plate of food. I usually eat 1/3 of my meal. Yet I'm the fattest one. I feel like I failed at the band and now I feel like the gastric bypass will be just another 1 lb a week situation and that's if I'm lucky. My roommate at the hospital was there today and she was down over 20 lbs. Again I'm venting. I don't want to hear it's alright. Because to me it's not alright. This was my last hope. If I can't loose weight with RNY what the hell else is there. So I get to not eat, not drink, and I still get to be fat. I still get to have all the wonderful benefits being fat brings. I just don't get it. No one has answers. No doctor ever does. No doctor ever has. Just once I wanted to be the one who drops 20 lbs. what's even more bizarre is I expected the doc to do blood work or urine or something at 2 weeks post op. The appointment was not what I expected. I was supposed to see the dietician but she cancelled. So here I am. Wondering what's ok to eat on stage 4. I don't see them again for 4 weeks. I can't even believe I'm typing all this nor do I expect anyone to sit and read all this Whiney crap. I'm just devastated. I needed to come to a place where others understand. I don't know if anyone out there can say they only lost 7 lbs after 17 days. If you sat through this woe is me session. Thank you for listening. -
I'm telling ya'. I'm soaking wet. Just got in from my 2 week post op. Appt in Boston. It was snowing then downpouring then snowing then raining. I'm drenched but I still prefer the seasons.

I'm taking Calcium Magnesium Citrate with VitaminD3 made by Solgar. I purchased it at the Vitamin Shoppe. I take 15ml liquid daily but I'm not sure if I should be taking more. I have my appt tomorrow I'm going to ask them. I'll be honest - I'm not loving having something else to drink. I think I'd rather chews. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/solgar-calcium-magnesium-w-d3-strawberry-16-oz/sl-1190

2 weeks post op weight loss
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was 2 weeks post-op yesterday so I weighed myself. I lost 4 lbs. I thought it was 5 then I realized it was only 4. My official appt is tomorrow but I was so mad yesterday. I had a feeling I would be one of the ones to not loose much weight even with the bypass. I had a band for 7 years and even though my eating changed it took 7 years to loose 50 pounds. I'm so disgusted. I did the Opti fast diet which consists of 4 little juice box type drinks a day and I didn't barely loose anything then either. It's just so frustrating. I know everyone will want to say it doesn't matter but for me it does. I'm so sick of eating so little yet being the fattest one in the damn room. It's not fair. My thyroid checks out fine so I don't know what the heck to do. I'm just venting. Thanks for listening. -

Post op soups and protein
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had been using Muscle Milk until I realized it's only 16 protein per scoop. So I bought Matrix by Syntrax and I hate the taste of it. It's been hard eating only broth and gagging down crushed medicine but now to have to gag down protein drinks is a total bummer. Has anyone else here experienced going from muscle milk to something that tastes somewhat as good? -
Tampa was very transient. Hard to get the neighborhood or community feel. It was especially difficult having 3 kiddos. I think I may have liked it a bit more if we were more north.

Thank you :-)

I Sometimes marvel at my own stupidity. I am 5 days post op. I took my daughter to basketball practice tonight. Because of the Super Bowl only 3 girls showed up. I looked at my other daughter who came with me and said let's go shoot some hoops we almost have the whole gym to ourselves. Whoooo and off I go. Running around, jumping, shooting. Next thing you know I fall backwards on the gym floor. That's when it hit me. What the heck was I doing? I fell backwards so hard. I'm home now and scared to death about what I may have done to myself. I'm seriously hurting. It's almost like I had a moment of totally forgetting I even had surgery. Sorry I just had to vent somewhere.

I'm from Boston but moved to Tampa for 16 years. I hated every last second of it. It was too hot for me. I love the 4 seasons. Even snow!!!!! I'm the odd man out here but I just need the seasons!

So I have a question. Should my side still hurt? Left side? Hurts to cough etc. I'm a week and 2 days post op. Just wondering how everyone else felt at this stage
