Surgery in Mexico? Is this safe?

I had mine done with Dr. Rodriguez in Acuna, Mx. His website is joseband.com He speaks english very well and has trained many U.S doctors. I think he even had a fellowship at UTHSC in San Antonio, Tx. The staff at the hospital are very nice and attentive. Very well trained. They don't speak english but they do have a translator. The docs speak english there, just not the nurses. The morning I left I would have thought I was in an american hospital b/c the patients were all speaking english. They were from as far as Alaska, Napa, Kansas, Houston. I was skeptical and now I am so glad I had it done there since I am self pay.
  2. I feel like I researched and did all things right to prepare for surgery, but nothing post surgery. How often does one drink? What do you drink? When they say clear liquids, does that mean berry protein water from Kelloggs? If anyone can tell me what they have done, it would really help. By the way, I feel good. So far no real pain only soreness and slight discomfort. I want to burp but can't seem to get it out. I feel tightness then it goes away.

    Banded yesterday...have questions

Isn't Dr. Rodriguez wonderful? I loved the experience and attention I received. I have only lost 10lbs, I'm hoping it will come off quicker once I feel restriction.

    No Restriction and Hungry

I'm also in the same situation. I'm on week 3 and feel no restricion and want to eat, eat, eat. I only eat when hungry but some days I am more hungry than others. I feel like my old habits sneak a peek at times leaving me frustrated and defeated. I don't know what full feels like b/c I think I stop right before, so I haven't had the urge to puke. I am so frustrated. Hope things get better.

    Banded yesterday...have questions

Hello, what kind of mushies can you eat. I'll be on mushies on Friday, although, I have cheated here and there w/o any immediate consequence. I guess I can't change old bad habits overnight:phanvan I really don't feel any restriction anymore. I wish I did. Hang out here and you should be fine. Ask away and I'll try to be helpful.
  6. I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I am on day 10 post op and fell into my old habits, just not as much consumption. Anyway, I too thought all this money and I don't have restriction. I really need to get a hold of myself and work this band in my favor and yes, I hate the "its a tool" story. I do hope your third fill is the charm. Let us know.
  7. Hello all, I am scheduled to have surgery on Friday morning at 8:30. I am doing all my household chores today and tomorrow linen changes, laundry, sweeping, mopping etc...I wasn't given a diet, but I have opted to do my own with protein shakes and lots of water. Ijust want everything to go smoothly. I know this is crazy but I feel like I should write a letter to my husband and son, just in case something goes awfully wrong. Did anyone else have the same weird feeling? I should be home on Saturday and will try to post on how I feel and pregress thereafter. Good luck to all going before me.

    Surgery on Friday, 21st...Anyone else?

I haven't tried adding it to warm meals. I drink protein shakes: Slim Fast Low Carb, unjury. I was told I could eat soup, so I bought Cambells soup in hand creamy chicken. THis seems to help but I still have grumbling in the tummy, just not as often. I think its getting a little better. How do you feel?

    Had my surgery yesterday 9/19

Poohlvr--15 lbs is a lot. Good for you. I have lost 5.5 lbs since my surgery on 9/21. I have pain only in my port right now, but it is only when I bend over. Not that I bend a alot, but I don't need to tell you that with a 2 year old you are straightening out all day and puting things back. I too, have problems sleeping through the night. I started out sleeping on the sofa recliner and now I am in my bedroom, then I go to my sons bed, (son sleeps with us). I hopw to be back to normal by Halloween b/c we have several fairs going on that day. Yes, I am complaining but I don't regret the band.

    Had my surgery yesterday 9/19

Yes, I am a stay at home mom. I have the same problem with the kicking during diaper changes. He goes to preschool Tues. & Wed from 9-12, so I have a little break. My husband has been taking him. I feel much better today, day 5. I am so glad I got this done. I did question my surgery while I was in pain the first few days. Thus far, I've lost 4.5 lbs and didn't gain any during surgery. I hope you are feeling well. How are you faring?

    Surgery on Friday, 21st...Anyone else?

Hello new-bandsters, I was wondering if you are hungry before it is time to eat. My nutrition protocol is to eat proper protein source every 5 hours period. I may snack in between on sugar popsicles or jello, but I find that I get hungry in between. It isn't head hunger either, its the rumbling in the tummy kind. I have been following directions, but I'd like to know that I've got some buddies out there in my situation. Therefore, we shall struggle together.

    Had my surgery yesterday 9/19

For me the most painful has been the wanting to burp but can't. I had some gas discomfort but that went away. For now my incisions hurt and my port area feels really sore. I hope this goes away soon. It breaks my heart that I can't carry my 2 year old son. We tell him mommy has boo boos on her tummy and he has been respectful. He forgets and wants my arms. Ahhh

    Banded yesterday...have questions

Thanks I found the notes he emailed me regarding post op nutrition. I had my surgery done in Mexico and they don't go through all the psych eval, nutrition and everything else they do here. I did get lots of emails and I really only focused on pre surgery. He does break it down by weeks. Again I thank you for your quick responses. I'll probably still want tips though. I'm on day 2 post op and things are feeling better. I have soreness on the port area. This is normalI suspect? When do you feel back to normal as though you only have an implant w/o soreness?

    Updated September Bandsters!

poolvr--Doc said I didn't need to follow a preop diet, but I will go on a liquid protein 5 days prior. I just feel better doing this and want to make sure all is okay on my part. Good luck and post as soon as you can. I'd like to see how you are feeling. I'm 33 too.

    Updated September Bandsters!

Add me to the list. My scheduled date is the 21st and I'm a little nervous, but mostly excited.:whoo:
  21. darr5380

    Afraid

I am scheduled for surgery on Sept 21st and I am also nervous. I often think I may die during the procedure. Pretty silly, huh? I think it is normal for most of us to be worried and a little scared. Honestly, I am not worried about the pain or having an object in me, after all I've been carrying two rolls around the last three years. Ha Ha Ha I am concerned about being under anesthesia. I have researched and prayed and this time it feels good. Earlier this year my husband was not on board with the idea, so that made me insecure. Both of us have researched and now we know its pretty safe and appropriate. I am about 50lbs overweight and in good health, I don't want to wait until I'm unhealthy to do this. I'll keep in touch and let you know how it goes.
  22. I am scheduled for surgery on September 21st. I cannot control my excitement. I wasn't told to go on a diet, but want to at least about 5 days prior. My doctor told me just to eat yogurt after every meal. I didn't even ask why...does anyone know why? Ughh it seems like an eterenity until then. The only thing I am concerned about is being away from my two-year old. What is the normal recovery time? I am a 5'3'' 217 pound active female and I'm 33 years young. Can't wait.
  23. I am scheduled for my surgery on Sept. 21. I was told to get on a protein shake diet week before my surgery an drink lots of water. Okay, well I am like a eating everything in sight as though I will never eat anything again for the rest of my life. What is up with that? Did anyone else have these feelings? I read somewhere here that this type of feeling is common, I'd like to know how to turn this off. It could be a hormone surge, it feels like "oh, I'm feeling low blood sugar, I need to eat" LOL
  24. darr5380

    Sad and frustrated!!

What's your goal? Forty pounds in 5 months is impressive. I have always read that your body has to catch up with its loss. I haven't been banded yet, so I don't speak from experience. My surgery is scheduled for Sept 21 and my wishful thinking goal is to reach 125lbs but I will be happy at 145. I am currently 215. Cheer up, I think you;ve done great.:clap2:
