Could be the PCOS. If you can eat then eat. Just make sure it's protein.
-
I ate everything pureed. Pureed tuna fish, chicken, turkey. Also scrambled eggs went down well.

Sorry it turned into more than you expected, but so glad you had Dr. K doing the procedure.

Got my Surgery Date!!!! :) 4/2/18! Calling out any April surgery buddies!!!!
Postop replied to Glamgirl's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm an April surgery (2005). I puked a lot my first year. Mostly bc I was drinking too much after eating as I was parched. It could definitely be bc you're eating too quickly or too much too quickly. This isn't to say you're eating too much (especially if it's protein) it just may be too much at one sitting. I still need 2 or more sittings for a meal. -

4 days out from band to ds and feeling down
Postop replied to Abbarnes's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@AbbarnesStaying hydrated is the most important thing right now. You have protein stores in your body but you must sip. Concentrate on that. If you can only do 4 sips (I seem to recall that was me, too) then do them every 15 or 30 min., if you can. -
@Diva302The reason I asked is bc I've never known a full DSER to have success with the patches. Keep a very watchful eye on your bloods as time goes on.

@Diva302Very glad they caught it quickly.

@mjctexasYes. The Lactaid pills I bought at the drugstore were good for cheese or milk. I also bought lactate free milk and cheese during that year. They were in the supermarket. Keep that blood work and all subsequent ones. I did lose about 9 lbs. I was eating junk and my surgeon called me at 9:00 at night about 5 days before the surgery and said he knew what I was doing. I was floored. He really knew me well. So I stopped the all junk party and ate a bit more sensibly for 3 days. Then I had a liquid diet for 2 days and let's just say I was nervous and my body got rid of a lot of what I'd eaten. I can't see him or any surgeon doing what he did nowadays. It was a different time, I guess. -

@mjctexasLactose intolerance. I wasn't told. It left within a year but I used lactate free products and took lactaid for that year. Probiotics. Learned about them a few years postop. Have you checked out Vitalady's sample vitamin list for DSers? I had a pain pump so I was able to manage my pain pretty well. Then I was given pain meds to take home. I was in the hospital for 5 days. Would have been only 4 but I developed a fever. This was 13 years ago. The protocols might have changed. Only 2 days preop diet for me, too. Clear liquids, Jell-O, etc. But no red. At your size the DS will work wonders. I'm sure Dr. K said the same thing. -
Best of luck. BTW, are you having the SIPS or the full DS?

@Glamgirl Sure thing. BTW, when I asked about a probiotic I was referring to a pill. Maybe ask your team how they feel about it ? -
Questions about DS surgery

Thanks for the compliment. I'd never say you're wrong. You need to live with what you can live with. Try writing a pros/cons list. -

I checked my vitamin list at that time. It was less than what they require of newbies now, though: Your calcium (must be citrate) is about mine. I was taking ADEK. Since I don't think you are and most don't any more, I'd add A and D. The A must be palmitate, retinol or acetate. And the D must be cholecalciferol. They can't be mixed in one pill. Also no gel caps. Must be a pill or capsule; Many don't take E or K. I do as I had nosebleeds early on (hence the K) and lost most of my sense of taste in 2016 (hence the E). You can wait and see how those go if you like; I also took an Urso daily to prevent gb issues. Ha! Three years later it had to come out; And 1 iron pill each day (it's been 2 for years now but then it was 1). No food, pills, drink for 1 hour before/after. I recommend taking it with 1000 Vitamin C to increase the absorption; Most of use don't need B; Are you thinking about a probiotic? -

Definitely ask re: iron. I was taking a supplement at about 6 weeks. Remember, what’s in multis isn’t nearly enough for a DSer, I barely count it. The real money is in the individual supplements. -

This is normal. Everyone varies, however, I couldn't eat 50 grams of protein/day till I was about 6 months out. I was tired, too. Do you take iron? -
Questions about DS surgery
Postop replied to lessismore1001's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
The answer to your first question is yes. Also to lose the most. As for the stool and gas smells they're real, but mostly controlled by what you eat and when. I also carry strong spray to use in bathrooms and spray perfume in my pants pocket to spray my butt if I pass gas. Since I eat little to no carbs during the day I don't have this issue much. -

@Glamgirlif you want to add protein and aren't crazy about shakes (I had to drink one for the first 2 years till I could eat enough protein but YMMV) have you thought about un jury? (It's one word but when I type it as such it doesn't link to the correct product). I didn't love it but a lot of DSERS I know did and do. -

Postop replied to Glamgirl's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@GlamgirlAt 9 days out liquids are much more important than protein. (I didn't get to 50 grams of protein till I was bout 6 months out). Don't worry about the protein that much right now. Concentrate on the liquids to stay hydrated. Most people do the 30 days = 30 grams, 60 days = 60 grams, etc., model. If you can do that you're ahead of the game. -
