    Eating vs. Nibbling

i nibble when i am hungry, but not "all day long"...and when i'm not hungry, i stop. it could be called grazing, but for me, i consider it eating...since full meals and i don't get along at all right now.
  3. i also noticed carbs are made to be the enemy in alot of weight loss forums...but there has to be a balance in all things...hopefully you get your blood levels to healthy in all ways! carbs are very important, as is fat, in the diet.

    African American vsgers!

ok i am pretty religious too with my Vitamins. my only exception has been 2 days, due to a stomach sickness. i couldnt eat ANYTHING without vomiting and i didn't want to waste 2 days worth of vitamins. i take Biotin every day and my Multivitamins every day too. hoping i don't have to deal with hair thinning or loss.

    African American vsgers!

lol yes. my doctor did such an awesome job, if it werent for scars i'd feel like i never underwent surgery. my Sleevie is very tolerant--it's my mouth and eyes that are pretty strict lol. if i can get something down without getting sick---my Sleevie tolerates it. but ONLY if it doesn't make me nauseated first. the only exception to the rule are really sugary foods. i had a sip of a milkshake the other day...UGH! nausea central once it went down! but yes, i am going to watch it!

    So sad about Hair Loss

i take 2500 mcg of biotin religiously every single day to prayerfully prevent this. my hair is loc'ed and i will be MORTIFIED if i lose a single strand. all of my family and friends who have been sleeved retained their hair...i pray i'm one of them. however, i AM happy that this won't last forever if i do lose hair...it does eventually begin to grow back in.

My lunch bag is a sad place right now

my lunch bag is also sad. i find that meals turn me off, and the look of so much food nauseates me, so i just snack here and there. i have 4 chicken nuggets (VERY soft meat) cooked every day-that's about the highest calorie count i have. they are one of the only foods i can eat that go down well besides the packet chicken noodle broths and my Protein shakes, which are delicious. otherwise--i'm pretty boring, just low sugar iced tea, milk and Water, day in and day out. the chicken nuggets have a pretty high fat content too...so i only have 4 per day. *sigh*

    African American vsgers!

hey now everyone! i was sleeved 4 weeks ago today and if it werent for my doctor wagging his finger at me, i'd be eating a salad right now LOL, that's how WELL everything is healing for me! my biggest issue now is dealing with foods that DON'T make me sick. i don't tolerate alot of the things i used to love because they are so sugary--but i still do LOVE my sweet drinks and juices, so that is my struggle. i have always been more of a drinker than an eater so i can digest hundreds of calories per day in liquids alone...i have to watch it. as far as food goes...meh. i can take it or leave it. i am trying to encourage myself to become more interested in healthy foods--but it's becoming even harder now than pre surgery. when i'm hungry--i don't care what i eat--i just want to get full. surgery hasn't been able to help me with that so i have to become very proactive.

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon

My awesome, funny, handsome surgeon was Dr. Jordan Garrison, who participates with Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ. The hospital staff was wonderful, my surgeon is an awesome doctor and I have recommended him and my hospital at least 3 times in the last two weeks lol.

    THE PROCESS

My process was very long (11 months) because of unforseen health issues. I didn't complain because it truly gave me time to come to terms with this surgery and what it meant for me. I needed that time to really prepare. The usual time frame for approval with my insurance company is 3 months. My biggest surprise during my journey was the discovery of so many health issues! I learned I had asthma, sleep apnea, relatively high blood pressure and I was pre diabetic throughout my process. Shocking.

    Paramount Advantage Ohio Medicaid

Medicaid programs are usually great with bariatric surgeries. My hospital prefers to take Medicaid patients because the insurance is great. It's probably the same across much of the country!

Horizon NJ Health, 12 month wait?

Angel, the choice is definitely unique for each of us. I didn't choose bypass because I only have 100 to lose, and I didn't want to deal with food restriction and nutrient restriction/malabsorption. But that's probably because I only have 100 to lose. But many, many people are successful with both the bypass and the band! You can do it!

Horizon NJ Health, 12 month wait?

To be honest, many banders wind up revisioning to the sleeve anyway. One of my good friends is banded, lost 130 lbs in a year, and is now considering sleeving to make it permanent. My issue with the band is that it is not a permanent procedure. I didn't go through all of the difficulties just to place a band on my belly that may break in a few years, or become less reliable as time goes on. I wanted a lifetime change, one and done! The sleeve gives me that. And I still have my stomach...nothing has changed much. I still get cramps from drinking cold liquids in the am, just like I have since I was a child. I still have a stomach made of iron, just like before. I still get nervous in my belly, I'm just getting over a stomach bug and I still got the bubble guts lol. Nothing has changed for me, except my stomach is smaller.

If you have about 100 pounds to lose I think the sleeve it's a great choice. If you have more than that to lose I would consider bypass, but for me bypass was a bit too much.
  18. No drain tube here thank goodness! I also loved the inflatable leg wraps, they were like a two day massage and I lamented when the nurse finally took them off. Hehe. I didn't have the stockings thank goodness I guess lol. I did have the spirometer, but it hurt to inhale those deep breaths for at least two full days post surgery! Also no catheter, my surgeon doesn't allow them. If you have to go, you have to walk.

    Low Carb/Atkins -vs- Sleeve

This is a good post for me, as Sleevie tolerates anything except rice so far...Yes I tried it and no I won't be trying it again any time soon lol. I haven't moved to toasts yet. I am a carb addict and am wanting to incorporate the low carb diet into my lifestyle again because it works. While a lot of foods don't taste good to me anymore and I can't tolerate eating them, if they can make it past my mouth Sleevie will more than likely be ok with it. So I have to have a plan too and I love the low carb plan.

    Stretching the sleeve

So far the thing I love the most about my sleeve is my ability to now eat what I like without feeling the need to stuff myself. It's n like my brain is ok with saving food for later, or coming back and eating a bit more without feeling like I'm losing a best friend. I almost never get over full now, I stop when I feel satisfied and if I have another bite, I feel full and definitely stop! And the best thing is, I feel ok doing so! I'm not worried about stretching my Sleevie, I think we will be ok.

    Water vs. Herbal Tea

I count all calorie free liquids as water, and I count milk too. Anything that is not a diuretic adds hydration right? I feel as long as I'm getting 64 ounces of non diuretic fluid in daily, I'm good. Lol.

    Regret

I definitely love this thread and with the seeming spike in mental illness, I truly believe food has a large connection to it. As you said op, all of those chemicals in foods MUST affect us in other ways too. I don't see how we can digest so many things we can't even pronounce and think none of it bothers us mentally. Congratulations op on your many successes!
  24. I have to say I'm ok with stalls. I want my body to properly adjust so I am very patient with myself. I even stopped checking my weight every day lol, it was making me paranoid lol

    9 days post op

I'm ok with food smells, but the tastes are entirely different. I can't tolerate allot of things now...I'm very experimental and will try any soft foods I used to love. About half gross me out now. My surgeon says that it is common after surgery and to try new food at home first just in case you get sick.
