  1. I made my husband some key lime cookies about a week ago. There was some left over frosting. A couple of days later, my brain was convincing me I needed something sweet. So I tried a small bite of frosting and it tasted about twice as sweet as it should have. I didn't get sick, but my tastes buds have definitely changed.
  2. I'm sorry this is happening to you. I had some tuna get stuck and it was very scary almost went to ER. I hope they are able to get you fixed up and you can back on your weight loss journey. Keep us posted. I will say a prayer for you.

    Open Bypass Surgery

I got them at my first appointment which was March 3. I had my surgery on June 25th. I stopped taking them a week before surgery.

    Open Bypass Surgery

I don't know anything about the open surgery. However, bariatric advantage makes a preop vitamin. I had to take that and calcium before surgery.
  5. I gained 8 pounds during my stall at 3 weeks. Couldn't tell you where it came from. Luckily I have lost it and few pounds on top of it. Feels good to be losing again.

    WLS Excluded on Insurance

Unfortunately, when an insurance company excludes coverage, they mean it. Nothing can be done. Maybe you could purchase a plan that covers WLS.
  7. I slept on my side. I used a pillow to brace/protect my tummy. I sleep with a couple of dogs that tend to kick. The pillow protection system worked great.

    Please reassure me

Don't let her get you down!!!! This surgery has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. The only time it sucked was when I was in the hospital, and that's because they gave me a pain pump with morphine in it and I was so doped up. A soon as I got home and the morphine wore off I was fine. Didn't even take a pain or nausea pill. I used to not be able to do anything without being in pain. Now I can walk five miles on the treadmill and ride an actual bike 15 miles, just did that one today. I was tired cause it's hotter than hell outside but once I cooled down, I was fine. I could not do these things two months ago. When I was 325 pounds. Don't let some negative nancy discourage you, she may not be following her diet plan.
  9. You are doing really well!! I actually stalled as soon as I started soft food, then I gained 8 pounds. My stall finally broke and I have lost 10 pounds just this week. I got really depressed about the stall, but I knew it would happen. I didn't think it would happen this soon. Glad it's over.
  10. I was put on a pre-surgery diet. I had two meal replacement protein shakes a day with a sensible dinner. Sometimes I measured everything out, other times I just had a lean cuisine or smart one dinner. I lost 25 pounds in three weeks, I probably could of lost more if I would of exercised with my diet. Try to stay away from high sodium foods too, such as fast food. I cheated on my two week diet and had two burritos from taco bell. I gained four pounds from it. If you feel you have to go out to eat, go to subway. I did that a couple of times on my pre-surgery diet. You have a lot of support here and some people were even in the same boat as you are. Don't give up, you can do this!!! If I can go from someone who could barely walk thru the mall to someone who bikes 10 miles a day 3 weeks after surgery. You got this!
  11. It's definitely food getting stuck. I had the same issue with tuna even though I loaded it down with light mayo. I thought I was going die the pain was so bad. I thought I wasn't chewing it good enough but I tried to finish it the next morning and had the same reaction no matter how much I chewed. I don't want to experience that again so I am staying away from any canned meats like chicken or tuna.

    Burping

I have learned that RNY will turn u into a gassy machine. I am constantly burping as long as I drinking or eating something. It's probably a good thing, I wouldn't want all the air trapped in me. I am sure it would get pretty painful.
  13. My bmi was 46 when I started. Before my surgery, I could eat oatmeal or cereal in the morning and never be full. I agree have high protein meals. Protein dense foods will really fill you up. Try to stay away from carbs. Look at it this eating a high protein diet now will help prepare you for after surgery when have to eat protein first and if you have room veggies or fruit. I never have room for the veggies or fruit. You can do this! Try getting some exercise in a pool, it's low impact so it won't be so bothersome on your joints. Keep us posted on your journey. If you need someone to talk to feel free to pm me anytime.
  14. I started out slow at the gym, but I decided I like exercise so I kicked it up a notch. The only machine I can't do is the elliptical. I tried it for 5 minutes and I thought I was going to die. My legs are very sore from that, but I am still moving forward. I figure I paid good money for this tool so I am going use it to its fullest.
  15. After nearly 2 weeks, I have finally lost 5 pounds. I am so happy! I have been working my butt off at the gym and following all my diet guidelines. I some how managed to gain 8 pounds right after I started eating soft food despite the fact that I can only eat about 2 to 3 ounces at a time. I was freaking out but my hubby reassured me that I have probably gained some muscle working out. I usually do an hour on the treadmill or 10 miles of a high resistance workout on the bike. I hope everyone is having smooth recoveries and wonderful weight loss journeys.
  16. I think I am hungry all the time as well. Then I realized it was just my brain that was used to me eating all the time. Now I eat on a schedule.

    cant tell a difference

I have lost around 50 pounds and several inches off my waist. I too, still see that fat girl, even though I am 2 dress sizes down. I can see changes in pictures. I guess it must be a mental thing. It may take a while before our brains catch up with weight losses.

    help im not loosing...

Like the others I agree with them about consulting your doctor about the pain and the stitch. I had surgery on 6/25/14 and since I started soft foods I gained about 5 pounds. I only eat 4 ounces of food three times a day. All my food comes off the list the dietitian gave me. They told me that we would stall but I didn't think it would be this soon. However, I am losing inches. I usually do an hour on the treadmill or 12 miles on the bike, so I am pretty sure I have gained some muscle in there somewhere. My husband tells me not to worry, but I am afraid the doctor will be upset with me for not losing.

    Incision ooze?

I was just stating what my doctor told me, a person who has performed over 4000 bariatric surgeries. He was also Duke fellowship trained. They are one of the best bariatric programs in the country. So I think he may know a little something. I oozed and absolutely had no problems.
  20. The surgeons office told me to contact them if it lasted more than 2 weeks.

    Incision ooze?

I started to have blood and oozing from my incisions, paged the doctor and he said it was a normal part of healing. I would even push on them and make more come out. If it is greenish and foul smelling, that is a sign of infection. Just to be safe call your doc and let them know.
  22. I didn't have to pay anything. My thousand dollar deductible and six thousand out of pocket max had already been met. I do know that most surgeons charge a fee which has to be paid upfront. I would of had to pay it if my OOP max would of not been met. I may have to pay the hospital 3500, but they are going to bill it since they didn't tell us about it until I was in the middle of surgery. My husband was so mad that they waited until then to discuss money with them. I hope everything works out for you.
  23. I think, I hope my stall is over. I weighed this morning and I was down two pounds. I feel better now that the scale has moved. Don't know how but I gained 5 pounds since I started on soft foods and going to the gym. I can't even eat 3 oz of food at a time and I haven't been skipping meals. I still have to drink 2 protein shakes a day to get all my protein in. So frustrating!!!!
  24. I am also 3 weeks out and have stalled. I measure all my food out, get all my protein in and drink more than 64 oz of water a day. I either briskly walk 3.5 to 4 miles a day or bike almost 10 miles. I hope this ends soon, I enjoyed my twenty pound weight loss the first 2 weeks. I really hope this ends soon. I am so frustrated.
  25. You are not alone, I have hit a plateau at three weeks after surgery. I have lost close to 50 pounds. I am going to the gym 6 days a week, briskly walking about 3.5 to 4 miles a day. I have lost inches though. So I am all kinds of confused. The only problem I am having is getting all my protein in. I called the dietitian and she said not to worry about the weight loss right now, just get all my protein in. I guess I am going to have to start drinking two shakes a day again.
