I drink two protein shakes that have 23 grams, the 8oz of milk they are made of has 8 grams each. I have 4 ounces of scrambled eggs for breakfast, 4 ounces of refried beans for lunch and last night my husband grilled burgers. 4 ounces was a patty and half. That was 30 grams of protein. The nutritionist said to eat 4 ounces of food three times a day. If it is a denser protein like chicken I can't eat the whole 4oz. I eat very slowly and chew really well. I take the whole 30 minutes to eat.

I am convinced it has to do with how much protein you take in during the day. I had about 80 to 100 grams yesterday and lost 4 pounds. I notice if I don't get a lot of protein that sometimes I lose and sometimes I don't. Just my opinion, I'm not a doctor or nutritionist.

My old stomach growled for about a week about after my RNY. I haven't been hungry since my surgery. My issues are mostly head hunger.
-
My surgery was June 25th, I had the RNY. I probably would lost more but I gained 8 pounds when I started soft foods and I stalled for 2 weeks. Just in the last week I have lost 16 pounds. I have lost a bunch of inches not sure how many. I went from a size 26 to 18/20 in 3 weeks. As for feeling smaller, I still see myself as the size I started. It's weird.

I power walk 4 to 5 miles 6 days a week at the gym. I would like to get into running, but I am not sure how to start out. I know I can't just get in there and run a half marathon. Just needing some advice.
-
Just start out slow so you don't over exert yourself, build up you stamina. You can do it!!!!

No salads for me until 3 months out when I start regular foods.
-
My nut told our class to eat 4 ounces of food at two weeks out. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. I bought a kitchen scale so I could measure everything out. It depends on how dense the protein is whether I can eat all 4 ounces or not.

when will i be able to eat
jtickle replied to kayla1990's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you chewing properly and eating slowly? I ate some tuna really fast one day a couple of weeks back and I thought it going to kill me. Eating shouldn't be painful. I would contact my surgeons office. The may want to put you back on the soft food or liquid phase so your tummy has more time to heal. You never specified how far out surgery you are. -
I can totally see the numbers on the scale now!

Almost 8 weeks post surgery and having trouble eating solid food
jtickle replied to leh8709's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can't eat any kind of meat except lean deli stuff like turkey. I have had tuna and chicken get stuck. Believe me that isn't fun. It's very painful. I know that a lot of people seem to have issues with meat. Maybe try chewing like there is no tomorrow and taking very tiny bites. Some people eat off baby spoons to keep from taking to big of a bite. I hope they figure out what is going on soon. -
What foods made you dump?
jtickle replied to Lthomas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I have not meet a food that has made me sick. That being said I don't eat sweets so they may cause me to dump. I just don't know and I don't really want to find out. I have been out to eat once since my surgery and I had a very tasty shrimp taco salad with all the fixins`. Of course couldn't eat but a few shrimp and some guacamole. -
How much weight loss per week is normal?

I have lost 13 pounds this week. I would like to get into running, but I am not sure how to start. I know I can't go out there and just start running 5 miles a day. Give me some advice runners! -
I take a 40mg prilosec. It's is a capsule, but I swallow it whole like the rest of my pills. It is the biggest pill I take. At first I had a hard time getting it down because of the sipping. But one day few days after my surgery I accidentally learned I could take full size drink without any issues. Been taking pills like a champ since.

Today, something happened to me that I thought would never happen. I was called a gym rat, because I chose to go 6 days a week instead of 5. I love it! It's better than being called fat.

I am so excited. My BMI is low enough that I am no longer morbidly obese, I am just obese. Can't wait to be in overweight category.

Help! how do you break a stall?
jtickle replied to cutlass6521's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with you, I stalled right at the time I was put on soft foods. I also somehow managed to gain 8 pounds in like 2 days. I have no idea where it came from. I stayed at 288 for 2 weeks then BAM I lost 12 pounds in 3 days. Anyway, during this stall, I lost a lot of inches. I went from a size 26 to a 18/20 in 3 weeks. I just keep on working out and the inches are coming off faster than the weight. If my body wants to lose weight slowly, I am fine with that. At least I am losing. -
Thanks for all your replies, I am feeling so much better now. I just don't understand why people would act like that. I wasn't bragging or anything I was just stating how much I love to exercise now. I am going to talk to the surgeon about adding some weights into my workout at my next appointment on August 18. I need to do something about my arms they are not anywhere close to being toned, but my legs are looking great. Thanks again for replying.

when Is Ok to go outside to walk after gastric bypass surgery?
jtickle replied to bearmcfly's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was told as long as I was steady and that I should stick to flat surfaces. Not marathons until released to do so. -

I had bariatric advantage orange cream and banana during my preop diet. The orange is pretty good, the banana not so much. However, my nut gave us specific instructions to mix with milk instead of water like canister says to. I still drink protein shakes because I can't eat much. The doctor's office tried to tell me I can only buy my protein from their office. It's 50 dollars for a 27 serving canister of bariatric advantage. To expensive for me. So I get pure protein plus protein powder from Sam's Club. It's only 19 dollars and has less sugar than bariatric advantage. I agree try many kinds before stocking up on specific one. Good luck!!!

My family is coming down to visit a few a days this week. I am in the soft phase. They had me pick out a restaurant that I can eat at. I chose ruby tuesday. I looked at their menu online and they have a dinner with tilapia and shrimp that I can eat. I am just going to have them leave off the parmesan sauce. I am nervous about getting dumping syndrome in public. So far, nothing I have ate has given it to me but I don't think I want to take the chance. This is the first time in my life that I have been scared to go out to eat. Good luck with your weight loss journey!!!

how long did your bypass surgery take?
jtickle replied to HYCIERRA's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Mine took about about 2 hours. -
Anti-inflammatory meds can cause ulcers in our pretty little tummies. I agree Tylenol and ice. I was very sore from using an elliptical, I just put up with the pain and tried to relax as much as I could. I would have given anything for an advil.

I'm not winded or anything like that. Sometimes I even talk on the phone. I only walk fast enough to bring my heart rate up in an acceptable range. Most of the time if I use the bike I can't get my heart rate up because I have to add a lot of resistance or put the bike on one of the workouts programmed into it. I'm not in there training for an iron man triathlon or anything like that. I just chose to go six days instead of five. My doctor told me to get hot, sweaty, and bring my heart rate up. That's exactly what I am doing.
