    I feel like crying!

March 4th and I'm in the exact same boat. I've not lost anything the past couple of days and I'm up a couple of pounds. I've been getting more water in the last few days (and probably sodium too). I was kind of dehydrated but I'm doing better now. So I'm telling myself that it's probably water weight.

    Post Op March 2014

An ice pack helped me immensely my first few days home. I have one from target that is almost like a sheet and I just wrapped it all the way around the left side if my belly. Helped more than pain meds even.
  3. How fast did you go through sizes after your surgery? I tended to wear most of my clothes pretty fitted already but so far everything still fits exactly the same even though I'm down almost 30lbs. (I know like half of that was Water weight) I kind of carry my weight weird, so I think that probably has something to do it with but I was just curious what everyone else's experiences were.

How fast did you go through sizes?

I do too. Well at least as far as jeans go. I'll still have to buy some stuff but I have enough that if I wake up one morning and something is falling off of me I can still get to work ok. I got rid of almost all my clothes before surgery and was hoping I could fit into some smaller stuff by the them I go back to work. I've still have 3 weeks to go so hopefully that will happen.

    Over the back sleep

I'm at 11 days now and I woke up almost all the way on my stomach today. I was on top of a body pillow on my right side so that helped. I bought a body pillow on a wim as line of defense against my very clingy dogs and I'm super thankful I did. It's been a life saver.

    Post Op March 2014

Hang in there. It gets so much better so fast. Mine was on the 4th, so a week before yours, I will tell you last Saturday and Sunday were rough but by Monday I started feeling a lot better. I'm almost back to normal now. I can't bend or move at 100% yet but I've drove, gone to the store, and I'm getting in a lot more water every day.

    Post Op March 2014

I'm at day 10 and still struggling with getting enough water in. I will say it helps to always have a bottle with in arms reach. I have a couple in my living room, one in my purse, and one by my bed.

    Post Op March 2014

So something kind of amazing happened today. I asked for 4 weeks off work. My doctors office said start with 4, and we could ask for more if I needed it. MetLife is notorious for only approving 4 weeks for this surgery, and I had no intentions of taking more. Well apparently when MetLife called my doctors office, the doctors office said up to 6 weeks and told them I could go back after my 6 week follow up. MetLife called me today with an approval for the full 6 weeks! I know I probably don't need it, but I'm thrilled to have it. My husband and I work opposite shifts so I do not see him at all M-F so it's going to be great. I'm feeling very blessed today. Hope those of you recovering or preparing for your surgery are doing well.

How long before i can pick up weights?

I was told nothing over 10lbs for 6 weeks.

    Wearing Jeans after surgery?

9 days post op: I'm already wearing jeans. They do come up to my incisions but it doesn't bother me. I had on a snugger pair but switched to a looser pair for comfort.

    Goals

Thank you for the advice. When I went into this, I was much more focused on my NSVs but my attention has slowly been turning to the scale. I do have a list of NSVs which I know I need to focus more on. One of my first is to go zip lining this summer and maybe even white water rafting.
  12. So I finally told my mom about my surgery. I called when I woke up for surgery and told her I had decided to have gastric bypass surgery. She said "when" to which I replied "this morning." She was shocked and a little angry, but she got over it and has mostly been helpful this far.

    Potassium

My IV blew when they started potassium on me in the hospital. Holy hell. That was the worst pain of the entire thing. Surgery couldn't even touch that.

    2 Week Pre-Op Liquid Diet

The purpose of "shrinking" your liver is to deplete your glycogen stores. This basically means carbs. Once you burn those, you'll start burning fat instead. It's a jump start on your diet. But it only takes about a day of super low carb to so this. My first day I had to pee every 30 mins for two hours. (Carbs hold onto water) when that was over I knew I was there. I cheated on my liquid diet but only with protein in the form of, turkey lunch meat, and eggs. I tried to stay as low carb as possible. Also, if you're going to do the bowel prep the day before, the less you have in your system, the better off you'll be.

    Hi Everyone!

Every doctor does it slightly different on the preop diet. My recommended a 10 day liquid diet. I could have some juice, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, and yogurt. I actually ate some turkey and boiled eggs too while I was doing it. It wasn't that bad, you just kind of have to remind yourself that you've got what your body needs to keep going. I would wait until I was super hungry and then eat something small and wait again until I was super hungry. Most days I only got in 400-500 calories. After the surgery: I remember I woke up in quite a bit of pain, but I was also super out of it. They actually had me awake while I was still in the operating room. As soon as I got to post op they started giving me drugs and I felt way better. I had a pain pump. Push your button. Push it often. And if it's not cutting it, ask for something else. I got what was in my pain pump and something for inflation too. From that point on my pain was tolerable. You'll have to do a swallow test in the hospital, and it's pretty gross but once you're clear from that you'll be on your way to going home. I got to eat clear liquids in the hospital. My worst days were my first 3 days home. I had trouble standing for more than a few minutes. Make yourself move around as much as you can. My husband was great during this time, he waited on me hand and foot and was always there helping me up, to the bathroom, in the shower ECT. I'm on day 8 now, I'm still tired and sore but I got my staples and my JP drain out today so I'm looking forward to getting back to normal. The best things you can do to prepare is to focus on eating slow, and listening to when you're stomach is full. Try to find some protein you might like, but remember your taste might change after your surgery. Also stock up on things you'll need when you come home, like your Calcium and Multi Vitamins.

    Goals

Congrats! Sounds like you're doing awesome! My first goal is to be down 40lbs when I go back to work. I'm a little over half way there with a little over two weeks to go.

I think it's normal. My first few days I felt some cramping when I drank water. I'm at day 8 now and it's better.

    March 2014 Surgery!

8 days out: got my staples and my tube out today. That was a really weird feeling, like bad period cramps, but I'm so glad it's gone. I even ran some errands on my own. I'm super tired now. Going to chill on the couch for the rest of the day with my dogs. Oh! I almost forgot, my surgeon said I had lost 28lbs. I'm not sure that's right actually but from the day I came home from the hospital I'm down 24lbs on my scale, with about 14lbs of that being excess IV fluid.
  19. Ugh I'm dreading this. My hair is super thick, so I'm hoping I can just cut a bunch of layers into it and it will look ok. But I know I'm probably kidding myself. I had super long hair but chopped a bunch off right before my surgery so I'm hoping it will grow back out before It starts falling out lol

How much time to take off of work?

I have a desk job and I'm taking 4 weeks off. I'm 8 days out right now and I wouldn't be happy about it, but I could probably go back to work on Monday if I had to.

    March 2014 Surgery!

I did but it was after being on a liquid diet for a week so it wasn't bad.
  22. It only took a couple of days once the insurance actually got the information but it took about 3 weeks to get all the information back in forth. I have UHC. I was hoping for a Feb 13th surgery date, my final appointment was on 1/8. I ended up being offered a Feb 18th date but opted to wait till March 4. You'll probably want to stay on top of your doctor's office and your insurance to get an approval that quickly.

    March 2014 Surgery!

I've had a pretty easy time of It so far pain wise until today. When I came home Thursday (Tuesday surgery) I noticed a pulling burning pain between two of my incisions. Today it's to the point I can stand or sit upright for more than a few minutes before it becomes almost unbearable. The pain is low, slightly above and to the left of my belly button. Anyone know if this is normal?
  24. Mine said two a day or at least 60 grams. I'm only 4 days out now and only managed to get down an ounce or two of premier yesterday.

    Instagram anyone?

I'm brooke_b___ I'm not specifically using mine to track my progress just yet Bc most of my social media friends don't know I had surgery, but there are lots of "before" pictures on there of me and I'll be adding after pictures when I start recovering.
