First Pureed Meal - Am I Full?

It took me a few weeks to start feeling full and even now I can't always tell. A 4th of a cup is only two ounces so you're probably good. Just go slow and keep paying attention to your body.

If you have a Smoothie King I think they have a lot more low carb, diet friendly options. We used to have one, but they closed a few years ago.

I was having trouble with protein too. Here's what I did, but I would say it's skirting the lines of a lot of our diet plans so take my advice with caution. We have a local smoothie place, keva juice. You can get a 12 ounce smoothie with 28 grams of protein added. I get piña colada flavor and you can't taste the whey. I'm aloud to have a cup of juice, yogurt, and bananas/soft fruit so I skip all those throughout the day and just have a smoothie. I The only thing in it I'm not strictly suppose to have is sherbet. The rest of the day I eat low/no carb and high protein.

    Pre-op diet, Self Sabotage

I didn't have to lose weight to get approved. About a year before I decided to have surgery I decided I would try to lose some weight on my own and see what happened. I had previously lost and kept off 20lbs. I used my fitness pal to track what I ate and I really stuck to it through the week and let myself go easy on the weekends. I lost about 20 more lbs over a couple of months but then my weight loss stalled. I did make some major changes to my diet though and that helped me keep the weight off until my surgery. I cut out all drinks that were sweetened, upped my Water intake, and tried to make better choices, more salads, less french fries ECT. I also focused on increasing my activity levels. Some things I've found that have helped me are eating foods that keep me fuller longer. Increase your Protein, decrease your carbs. I also have learned to love cooking and baking over the past few years. As for recipes, I have a couple of go to recipes that my family loves and that are healthy. If you don't have access to fresh veggies, use frozen. The frozen green giant veggies, even the ones in cheese sauce are filling and low calorie. You can replace mashed potatoes with mashed cauliflower. I add a bit of cheddar cheese, some low fat cream cheese and a tiny bit of hot sauce. One my favorite easy recipes is to just take a couple of chicken breast and throw them in a crock pot with a can of diced tomatoes, a can of corn, a can of Rotel, two cans of black Beans and a pack of chicken taco or fajita seasoning. Let it cook for 4-6 hours and shred the chicken. Here are a couple of other recipes I like. They are almost all high in protein and low carb and very filling. Here are a few http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/235311/greek-yogurt-parmesan-chicken I don't use all the seasoning, just some salt and pepper and Italian flavored panko http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/skinny-ranch-dip/ This is super high protein, and is great with baked chips or carrots and celery http://www.food.com/recipe/salsa-chicken-slow-cooker-recipe-396495 This is great on its own or you can add it to taco shells, salads, burritos ECT. http://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/2013/09/2-ingredient-healthy-banana-bread-breakfast-cookies-with-delicious-add-ins/ Ok honestly, my husband hated this one, but I liked it and it's a good fix for your sweet tooth. I'll add more if I think of them. Good luck. You can do this, do it now while you're still young. Stay on the forums, there's a lot of support and inspiration here.

Fear that I won't lose weight...

Im 3 weeks out. I didn't loose a single pound for over a week starting at about 10 days out. A stall is normal. I feel hungry sometimes too. Make sure you're getting enough water, that will help with the hunger. In another week when you're healed more and you're eating more solid food you'll start feeling full easier. It's only been in the last couple of days that I've really started feeling it.

    Post Op March 2014

My soft foods so far have been lots of refried Beans. I've also made a couple of recipes, like chicken taco Soup with canned chicken. Luckily thus far nothing has made me sick. I did make a tortilla pizza today with a couple of pieces of turkey pepperoni and low fat cheese. The tortilla didn't sit well with me so I just picked the stuff off of it and ate it. My diet book says I can have nuts in moderation so I bought a couple of the new Oscar Meyer p3 packs. Most of them have low fat cheese and 14 grams of Protein. It took me two meals to eat it all, but it was easy and tastes good.

    Starbucks

I'm a Starbucks junkie. I haven't been there since my surgery but I can give you some tips for ordering light. Ask your barista for tips, usually they're really helpful as long as they're not slammed. Everything can be ordered with skim milk which will give you some Protein and cut calories. I also like to just get plain coffee with syrup. You could get a black decaf coffee with sugar free Carmel syrup. Download the Starbucks app. It will show you which syrups they have that are sugar free and help you plan your drink out.
  9. This was honesty one if the hardest parts for me. I had 8 months from my first appointment until my surgery. Because I had so many appointments early on I told a handful of coworkers who were also close friends early on. They were super supportive and that gave me someone to talk to about it. One of them had the surgery a few years ago so she was my go to person. After that I told no one for months and even then only on a need to know basis. Most of my coworkers don't know unless they've been told while I've been out. I'm sure they'll figure it out when I go back to work in a few weeks. I told most of my need to know family a week or two before surgery and it was really hard. I just spit it out. The more people I told, the easier it got. Luckily everyone has even supportive so far. My mom can't keep her mouth shut and she can be very overbearing so I actually didn't tell her until I got out of surgery. She freaked out, but she's over it now. There really isn't any easy way to do it. Tell who you want to tell, and don't worry about everyone else. Be prepared to answer questions, but if some one is being a jerk, be prepared to shut the conversation down and move on. My mentality was that I'm an adult and capable of making my own medical decisions so I wasn't going to let anyone question my judgement.

    Pre-op diet, Self Sabotage

Are you able to maybe get into some therapy post op? Sounds like you might need to talk out so of your anxiety issues. To lose the 50 lbs before surgery you may have to be a little obsessive but only you know if it's to a point were it's seriously affecting your life and your marriage. Your husband knows you so I would take his opinion seriously if he thinks your behavior is abnormal or detrimental. As far as working out, if it's not something you want to do, it's hard to do. I'm 3 weeks out now and I don't want to do it. I just don't feel like it. The thing is, if this something you really want and really need, it's something you are going to just have to do. You don't have to go to the gym for 3 hours every day. Go for a walk around your neighborhood or go to the park. Even if you only start with 5 minutes a day, that's still better than nothing. A few years ago, the thought of walking or riding my bike for more than a few minutes was daunting but I started slow, and now I can walk for miles and my husband and I do a 17 mile bike trail a couple of times in the summer. We are hoping to do the full 32 mile trail by the end of this summer. You can do this. It's hard, it's a long journey, and sometimes it just sucks. But either you do it now, and in a year from now you'll be so glad you did, or you can keep doing the same thing you've been doing for years and a year from now you'll regret you didn't do it already.
  11. I kind of had a similar situation with my husband. He isn't obese but his BMI is in the high 20s so he could loose a few pounds. About a week after my surgery he even said "I just wish we could eat dinner together." I'm almost 3 weeks out and it's getting better. We can eat more of our meals together, even if he wants to go out, we just have to plan carefully and split something. Last night we went out with family and I just took a few bits of his chicken. If he is really supportive he will make the changes he needs to make to help you through this. This biggest change you'll have to make is finding something else to do together. My husband and I have been going to the park together a few days a week, a few years ago we took up biking which has been wonderful. We have a bunch of TV shows we watch together and we love going to the movies, concerts, and day trips to near by cities. You're going to have a hard adjustment ahead of you, so it's probably important you both get the support and counseling you need. The way I looked at it, I could either do the surgery now and my husband and I could work through it together aor I could wait another 10 or 20 years for serious health issues to catch up to me and then we'd be faces with even more serious issues.

4 days out.. And feel like crap..

Don't stress yourself out about getting all the fluid down right now. You'll still be loaded up with IV fluids for a few more days. Keep a bottle of water with you and sip sip sip, just get as much as you can. In place of the abdominal wrap you could try getting a really snug hoodie and zipping it up around you. I wore a hoodie like this for a few days and nights and it really helped.
  13. I'm two weeks out and it's getting warm out so I'm ready to get out and move around. But my stomach muscles are still so sore if I stand up or move around too long. I managed half a mile at the park a few days ago but it took me 15 minutes. Meanwhile my husband did 2 miles in just over 20 minutes. I know it's going to take a long time, but I'm eager to catch up with him.

Yes. At least I'm hoping that's the issue. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out but I haven't lost anything in a week even though I'm only eating 400 calories a day. It's incredibly frustrating.

    soft foods

I made buffalo chicken dip last night. It wasn't as good as the original but it was still really good. I used a cup of Greek yogurt, about half a pack of ranch powder, a can of chicken, a block of non fat cream cheese, and franks red-hot sauce. I just mixed it all together with my kitchen-aid to shred the chicken and baked it for 15 mins of 425. Tons of Protein. One of my favorite recipes right now is just a couple of chicken breasts, a pack of taco seasoning, and a jar of salsa. Cook it in the crock pot for 8 hours on low and it just falls apart. You can use it for tacos, burritos, salads, or just eat it by itself. You can even add Beans and tomatoes and make it into Soup.
  16. Sometimes it will let you change the service size, but most of the time you just have to change the number of servings which can be frustrating. The best thing you can do is just learn measurements really well. So if a serving is 1 cup, and you're eating 2 tablespoons that's 1 ounce which would be 1/8th of a serving.
  17. You can do this. It's probably not going to be as bad as you think it is. I never had surgery either (other than my tonsils out when I was 5 but I hardly even remember that) but now I'm two weeks out and I'm glad I did it. Just follow your diet, do what your doctor says and you'll be fine.

Toddler spoons and plates as well as 4 and 6 ounce Tupperware containers have been really really helpful for me this far.

    alternative to protein shake?

I liked premiere before but i don't love it now. I got about half a shake down today so that's something. I tried the chocolate syntax nectar protein mixed with some pb2 and skin milk and it was just too much. It tasted good but it made my stomach hurt some.

    I feel like crying!

I had the same question. I'm two weeks out too and wanting to start couch to 5k but I don't feel like I can even start yet. Sounds like you're doing awesome!
  21. I'll be honest, mine hurt more than I expected based on what my other friends told me but It still wasn't that bad. It just felt like strong stomach cramps.

    Post Op March 2014

Yes I had the same thing all along my left side. It was hard for me to stand up for more than a few minutes at a time the first week. 2 weeks now and it's still there but it's not as bad. Still can't sit up straight for long periods of time. An ice pack helps.

    Chili

I'll be two weeks out tomorrow and I ate turkey chili from Panera this weekend with no issues.

    March surgery

It took me until day 8/9 to start feeling normal. I drove myself, went to the store, and hung out with friends. That's also when I got my staples and drain out so I could take a normal shower. I'll be two weeks out tomorrow and I'm not 100% but I'm getting there.

    alternative to protein shake?

My NUT recommended the powdered milk into regular milk thing. She called it double milk. I haven't tried it myself but I imagine it would be ok.
