  1. I've bought everything a size or two smaller. I can't wear it all right now, but I'll be able to eventually. I was given a ton of clothes in size 14-18 and large shirts. I go back to work next week. I'm going to wait till next weekend to go buy a few pieces to make sure I can get through my first couple of weeks at work until I can get into my smaller stuff.
  2. I went shopping yesterday and actually started in the straight size section. It was really weird. I still have a bit to go, so I didn't buy anything but it was still nice. I'm still a little scared and overwhelmed about shopping in a regular straight size only store.

    Muscle aches?

Could it low potassium maybe? Maybe make sure you're getting enough in what you're eating. I know I've been a lot more sore and tried working out than I was presurgery. I think it's almost inevitable for a while when you're getting so few calories.

    March 2014 Surgery!

Congrats Kristina! That sounds awesome. I was scared to try tuna because I've heard so many people say it made them sick but I tried some lemon pepper tuna with Greek yogurt (instead of mayo) and some relish. It was so good and it didn't make me sick! I went to my GP today. She said I have lost over 40lbs since my last visit in January. She was super impressed at how good I was doing for a month out. She cut my BP meds in half and said I can probably stop taking them altogether after my next check up!

    Exercise causing weight gain

Muscle weighs more by volume. A pound of anything weighs the same as a pound of anything else. But a cup of muscle will weigh more than a cup of fat. Muscle has more density. Volume matters. That's why you can gain weight, ie muscle, and still loose inches. It's also why you can have a high BMI but not be over weight. Sorry....I'm a little nerdy when it comes to physics.
  8. At this point I almost wish less people knew. I don't feel like telling people 12 times a day how much weight I've lost. I feel like half the conversations I have go like this "hey how are you" me: "I'm good" other person "how much weight have you lost?" I haven't even got back to work yet, I'm dreading that. One of my coworkers had RNY about 6 years ago and he is already the type that knows everything about everything. The thing is, he's gained most if his weight back and I really don't want or need his advice. I think I'm going to tell him to mind his own damn business if he tries to talk to me about it. Luckily my coworkers who do know were explicitly told not to let him know why I've been out, so maybe he'll leave me alone.

    Post Op March 2014

Well here is a basic symptoms list, but some of these are hard to piece out since some of them are symptoms of surgery...ie weight loss. Seek medical advice if the person experiences any of the following: Increased or constant vomiting for more than a day Temperature over 38C (101F) that doesn't settle with temperature-lowering measures and medication Diarrhoea for more than two days Unexplained weight loss Decreased urine production Seek urgent medical advice if these situations occur: Temperature higher than 39C (103F) that doesn't settle with temperature-lowering measures and medication Confusion Lethargy Headache Seizures Difficulty breathing Chest or abdominal pains Fainting No urine in the last 12 hours

Have you tried something for gas? Like the Gas-x strips. That might help.

Mine too, I was surprised how much it hurt the first few weeks. It's getting better now.

I want to drink out of a flippen straw!

I've heard different things. The lady who led my support group said it puts pressure on your staple line but long term it wouldn't matter. I've also heard it's because you don't realize how fast you drink with a straw. And then you know a lot of people say never again. I mostly stopped using a straw long before surgery and I'm going to try to stick with that. I did take a tiny sip of my husbands iced coffee the other day, but I didn't swallow it immediately and it was fine but not something I plan on doing frequently.
  13. Last night I noticed that my knees were kind of poking each other when I lay on my side and my hips are getting more bony. lol it's a good thing though, at least I'm almost to the point if being able to lay on my stomach again.
  14. I know need to wait a while to get my rings sized, but I was just curious how many sizes everyone else went through and how long you waited. I already had to put my anniversary ring up, but I think I've got a few more weeks on my wedding set. I'm considering ordering a costume ring from eBay so I have something to wear.

    New Whey..... Anyone tried these?

I haven't tried them but Let us know what you think when you get them. I'm having trouble with protein too

How many ring sizez did you loose?

I didn't even think about a ring guard. I'll have to check on that.

    February 2014 post op losers

How long did you wait to try the quest bars? I'm having trouble with protein shakes and wanted to try them but I'm just a little over 4 weeks now.
  18. I'm the opposite. Pre surgery I would get up a million times a day at work and a bunch durning the night. Post surgery I can go for hours and hours. If you're not showing any signs of dehydration maybe considering cutting back a bit on fluids before bed time?

    March 2014 Surgery!

I'm only getting like 400-600 at 4 weeks out. My first week or two I probably wasn't getting half of that. I'm still not doing good with protein yet. Most days I feel like I have to force myself to eat and I want to gag the whole time but I know I'm hungry because I'll be light headed and have a headache.

I hit the 50lb mark today! It's been two years since I started on my fitness pal, and I've lost 50lbs in that time. 35 of that is since I started my preop diet. I have no idea the last time I was this weight but it feels pretty great.

Try alternating heat and ice. My left side is still sore at 4 weeks but that helps. Focus more on your body and how you're feeling than the amount of fluid you're getting in. Is your mouth dry? Are your lips chapped? Does your urine look dark ? Do you feel like you're hungry or thirsty? If you're answering no to these questions, you're probably good. I'm still struggling to get in two 16 oz bottles of water a day so it's sounds like you're doing pretty good.

    HOW to do food diaries

I didn't have to journal preop which I was thankful for but now that I'm post op I do keep track of what I'm eating. Do you have a smart phone? I use my fitness pal for tracking. I think you can do it online with a PC too. I just put in everything I eat through out the day. If you're required to journal your feelings too you might just want to get a cheap notebook and do that separately. Best of luck to you. The 4 weeks will fly by.

    Feeling Normal?

I was nervous about having my staples removed too. Some did hurt, not terribly but a little, some I couldn't even feel. The ones that were more scabby hurt, my two incisions that were already healed clean were pain free. They use a little instrument that almost looks like a mix between scissors and tweezers. They slide it under the staple and squeeze down on the handle. The stable pops right out.
