  1. India is a large country divided on many lines including cuisines. Beef & Pork are available almost throughout the country except maybe for a few cities in the North. Southern cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad are gastronomic delights apart from Mumbai, Delhi & Kolkata.

    Hungry or acid?

Yeah i have the same issues - only diff is I've bin taking medication twice daily for my acidity for the last 10-15 yrs and it's beginning to take its toll now! Anybody here with similar symptoms where after HH repair they didn't need to continue medication anymore?

    Hungry or acid?

May I ask if you have identified the cause of your GERD? Mine is due to a Hiatal Hernia and the surgeon is going to fix that with a stitch while doing the sleeve. Seriously hoping it will help me get rid of my ppi medication once and for all as it has been the cause of stomach polyps (discovered during endoscopy pre-op) and also insomnia!

    Hungry or acid?

Acid will burn all the way up to your throat and you will not be able to bare it after a couple of minutes.

    Hospitalized 9 days pre-op

For low blood sugar patients docs & NUTS usually allow a fresh fruit a day. Won't hurt you!

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

BMI of 36 and you're opting for bariatric surgery?? Shouldn't you just try & work off the little excess?

Lost 6 kilos in 6 days - living on 2 cups of tea + chicken n veg soups + 1pc of chicken twice daily. Surgeon happy! Hiatus Hernia repair + sleeve scheduled for 7th Jan!
  8. Checked weight today on day 6 of my home cooked chicken soups, salads + 1 pc of chicken in soup per meal - lost 6 kilos! Loads of water + 2 cups of tea daily. Surgeon happy! Hiatus Hernia repair + sleeve scheduled for 7th morning.
  9. For constipation try Fibercon tabs or even Gas-x.... works like a dream

Protein shakes shouldn't be keeping you hungry! You want to stay strictly liquid then make your own chicken soup at home. Don't use the ready stocks - cut up a few pcs of chicken on the bone, add whatever else you want in it for flavour (i add onions, green beans, carrots salt n pepper) and then consume only the liquid. I just do 2 bowls of this everyday - about 300-350ml each for lunch n dinner - no hunger pangs ....4th day running now! Breakfast is a cup of tea followed by oats cooked in milk or half boiled runny eggs.
  11. The 2 of you went thru the op together?? Tell me about the nausea symptoms after the HH repair. And the acidity. Do you still get it or its completely gone? I've suffered with it 15+ years now n completely fed up...

Why are you hungry? Your liquid diet can consist of fresh green salads, yoghurt, oats, skim milk & an egg. The soup can also contain 1pc of chicken or fish, green veggies, spinach, etc - I just switched off from my usual OD'ing and actually feeling good about it! Throw the ready made shakes out - you are just supporting another parallel commercial industry!
  13. LOL! In India. Yes it's a large HH! Was just checking out some videos earlier and found this one interesting: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ABQhu6uli0 Altho can't figure out from this video how the esophagus is tightened! ?? So after your HH repair you don't have the usual nausea associated with the sleeve op? Really keen on knowing how this turns out. ...

I guess that depends on what your current weight is eh! Couple of days, a week or 2 right up to a few months! I'm on the 7 th as well and bin on liquids since the 30th of Dec!
  15. Mesh! Yes, that's it.... forgot the doc mentioned it!
  16. HH repair yes, but not with a sleeve. Fundoplication is the process of wrapping the upper part of your stomach around the esophagus to tighten the hiatul valve. In a sleeve situation there is no stomach left so the HH tightening has to be done with something else. What that is I haven't bin told as yet.
  17. LOL...yet to get operated upon....i guess all that will come later! My Surgeon has cut me open twice before for other ailments so I got no issues with him! I also read up a lot. ... Finally decided to go ahead with this only after considering it for a full year! And that to only after I speaking with someone who had the same thing done exactly 1 yr ago - he's lost 65 kilos so far - was operated by the same surgeon on 17th Jan, 2013 Technically I cannot have a sleeve done becoz I have a large Hiatus Hernia but my doc is attempting to repair that using some other tech/method as I was totally against the RnY surgery!
  18. You sure what you are facing isn't dumping syndrome? Try slowing down your intake drastically. ....stretch it over a longer period of time until the new sleeve can manage it's content without pushing it out into the small intestine.
  19. So whats it like the first 4 weeks? Just soup all day? How about half boiled runny eggs? It's also hard for me to get separated from my morning tea!

    Pre op liquid diet

I've bin allowed tea without sugar - doc asked me to switch to Sugar Free drops. And frankly I haven't really gone out shopping for any protein shakes & the ready made stuff which I'm sure is available somewhere! Remember my doc saying something like since I'm not vegetarian I didn't need to get those products right now!
  21. I prefer to make my own broth/soup at home. It's pretty easy - just dump all the ingredients you want with the chicken into a pressure cooker & forget about it! That way it comes out tasting the way you prefer it to be! I'm guessing post op will be more or less the same thing - just pulverised after I debone the meat. U think I've got it right? PS: I thought I was posting on the pre-op gastric sleeve section of this forum
  22. Thanks.... But I'm not in the US! For Breakfast I'm doing a cup of tea + half boiled eggs or oats cooked in milk with a teaspoon of honey. Is that ok? Have no idea what's in store for me post op! I've heard patients simply pulverize chicken broth & veggies & survive on them for the first month

    Pre op liquid diet

I'm scheduled for the 7th of Jan....started my pre-op diet on 30th of Dec. My doc has advised me 1pc of either chicken or fish a day with soups, green vegetables & skimmed milk/yoghurt. I did hear him say 'no' to natural sugars from fruits but not so sure! Could someone pls advice if natural fruits/juices are allowed on the pre-op diet. Lunch, dinner isn't so much of a problem as breakfast is! Any ideas on how to cope in the mornings? PS: I don't get shakes, powders, etc where I live!
