  1. Hi all I am one week post op. My NUT called to say that if I feel ready I can slowly start to increase the thickness of my fluids and although it's not quite the puree stage, it's still things like extra runny mashed veg, soggy Weetbix etc. I am in Australia, so a lot of the cool stuff from the U.S isn't here! My question is, anyone been through this stage? Any food ideas? Or do most people just do fluids then purees? She said it has to literally run off my spoon, so nothing crazy yet. I have the sleeve but also went through the lapband process in 2007, so I know what to look out for in terms of feeling uncomfortable and not pushing my limits, but nothing has made me feel sick or anything yet. I have so far had things like diet mousse, Greek yoghurt and of course the usual fluids.
  2. Hi all! I can imagine that you all know how I am feeling, with surgery being in 24 hours! Surgeon keeps repeating how much 'higher' risk I am as I am revising (even though it's been yearssss since I had my my band out) and that I could have a leak and die, and all these terrible things. It's his job to ensure I know what I am doing and I make an educated choice, but i am SO scared now. I wanted to know if a) your surgeon found lots of scar tissue when you revised how long your surgery actually took and c)do you know of people who had leaks etc. I am having afternoon surgery (boo hoo!) and wish that was not the case, as I will have allllllll day to stress.

    Mouth dry and so full

I am a week post op, and in Australia. I can get an oral thrush cream over the counter, called Nilstat - but you might be needing something different as I am not sure where you live?

    Mouth dry and so full

Just want to say, I am the same! My NUT just called and said it sounds like I have oral thrush - so I am getting some cream for it. Apparently the anesthetic can cause it....I feel like I could cry trying to drink Protein shakes etc. It all tastes SO BAD
  5. I am one week post op and just getting in enough Fluid is a struggle, let alone protein! I just can't be bothered....but I know it's my life we're talking about, so I need to really focus. So worried about work next week and how I will juggle it all....I can't wait until I can eat though!!! Good luck with it all.

    Feel like I'm eating crap

It can be very hard at this stage - so don't beat yourself up! Just do what you can until you can start introducing the real stuff.
  7. Surgeon told me a patient of his had fast food (as in, coke/burger/fries/sundae) TEN days after the sleeve. He then got a leak....WTH??? Another guy had a meal of butter chicken and rice (not pureed) after a week, but no leak. CRAZY. I was wondering why they kept going onnnnnnn and onnnnnnn to me about sipping slowly and being careful. I thought 'Um I've just had a sleeve, of course I am not going to eat within a week' and yeah, they said all this.
  8. I am feeling good but definitely a bit foggy. I am lucky with recovery - no real pain, just a bit uncomfortable at night if the gas comes back, but I rarely feel it! I was sleeved 7/7. The only thing is my tongue feels yuk with some weird tastes!!

    Crackers

I'm not condoning it or glorifying it - I was having a laugh and just trying to bring some light heartedness...

    Dumping syndrome for Sleevers?

    Crackers

Look, maybe instead of asking about crackers, just start asking about hotdogs, pizza, tacos, ice cream, burgers and milkshakes!!!! Maybe they're healthier?? Haha....wow, this forum gets so tense. Try looking at WLS Instagrams - some girls are totally banging with these amazinggggggg bodies, and they're eating cheese platters, sipping red wine, tucking into pizza, ordering cocktails....and they were doing it not long after surgery too *cos I stalk pages for inspo hehe!
  13. I get what you mean! However, I just remind myself that to live a long, fulfilled and healthy life, you really can't be overweight - if you are, you can get diabetes, heart issues, cardiovascular problems etc etc.....so I suppose if you weighed it up, being healthy and in a good weight range will outweigh any issues that a sleeve may cause. I totally have the same fears, but what would happen to us in the end if we were obese and starting to get bad knees, live on insulin etc.....all the best for your surgery!!

    Crackers

On any weight loss journey, nobody is perfect. I can imagine before WLS we ALL had a lottttt worse than crackers, ha... and crackers that are rich in good nutrients (not salty ones that are high in calories) can actually be topped with Laughing Cow cheese/salmon/protein rich foods. I don't see crackers as bad and carbs are OK if eaten in the right way.

    Pain after surgery

I am 4 days post op and feeling good. I barely take my painkillers - it is just the stinging of the incision points when I get up and down that are bugging me...but nothing crazy! I struggled with nausea and was taking the meds to help that. I walked and used hot water bottles/heat packs to help shoulder tip pain. I would keep on top of meds whilst in hospital and it helped a lot. The main issue for me is not pain, it's just feeling seedy and not myself!

    Done!

Well surgery is done and I am home now. Such a weird feeling. The nausea and 'spun out' feeling I am getting is my only real issue. Just want to feel normal. But of course I won't. Having a hard time drinking water/juice, but I love sucking ice cubes. The other crazy thing I am going through is smelling yummy foods and just getting so down - I am not hungry and would never ever want/need foods, obviously at this early stage, but I am struggling to know I CANNOT eat. Weird.... Any advice? Thanks

    POOP?

I was sleeved 3 days ago and nothing yet
  18. Around 2.5 hours - had lots of scaring from the old lapband...but it was removed a while ago!

    Why am I SO HUNGRY!

Let us know how you get on! Would love to know what's going on.
  21. I am 3 days out and sort of get the 'stuck' feeling at times, especially when I take medication. Usually if I walk around it helps, but sometimes it's so annoying.

    Why am I SO HUNGRY!

I agree that you should try anti reflux medication. When I woke up from surgery I thought I was ravenous! I could hear crazy gurgling sounds, I felt gas pain in my chest, and I really thought I could have slammed down a litre of water. Of course I couldn't! But it messed with my head. Then 24 hours I was waking up and felt the weirdest pangs that I thought were hunger - but then I felt the acidic stuff come up in my throat. I am now on the medication and haven't even thought of hunger and haven't felt any weird sensations.

Made it to the losers ' bench.

I was sleeved 7/7 and am not even on free fluids yet - I have to stick to clear until Monday (I am in Australia too, so it's now Sunday). I can then try Protein shakes etc from tomorrow....so I am getting no protein in! But that's just the way it seems to work in Australia, so I wouldn't stress. .Good luck! I am so excited to get onto more interesting stuff.

    Liquid capacity

    Good to know!
  25. Hi there! I too had average scarring/adhesion from the band, but nothing too horrible apparently. I had pretty bad nausea the last couple of days but last night was my first at home and I had panadol at 8.30pm then basically slept until 6am. I then took panadol at 6.30isham but just to prevent any uncomfortable-ness. Feeling like i can stomach a bit more liquid. How are you going now that it's been a few months? I am so nervous - I know that the sleeve will be way different, but at this early stage it feels so 'bandish' ahhhh lol
