  1. I'm so sorry about your mom. I too am doing the divorce thing. My choice this time. Mine wont talk or answer questions. I have no idea where he is or here to send notices either. Does he know About your surgery? Mine could be in April, but will need to wait until May. I am so very ready for this!

So glad ur all ready! Divorce isnt a bad thing if we are the ones initiating it. Yeah he knew about my surgery... he knew it was gonna be in sept... now its in june tho. Lol .

  2. Sooo sorry hon..i understand all about life getting in the way....this is such a difficult time for you....talk to your dr...whats hus ger requirements to have surgery..2 week..1 week pre op diet...do they want you to lose 25 lbs first bf preop diet? Try to stay focused....eat ice chips and drink Water instead of munchies....best wishes darling

These are great ideas. As for his requirements. . I just have to do a diet for 2 weeks...and dont need to lose a certain amout...just gotta shrink the liver. Lol.. hes got a very strict diet for me to follow. But that comes in june. After we submit.

  3. Thank you all for the amazingly wonderful support u all give me and my family. I am really struggling with this and it has gotten the best of me from time to time. I am doing alot of time at the hospital and I'm learning to eat on the run. I just wanted to let someone know I'm still alive and working at this... just hit a few bumps in the road. I just gotta stay focused in a chaotic time.

  4. I had Surgery March 25th. I'm 38,will be 39 next month. I wanted to do this now so I can be thin at 40. My highest weight was 250#. Currently at 233#. I suspect I'm still holding on to some post surgery Fluid. I'm excited about this journey. I'll be glad when my incisions stop hurting.

How are u doing since surgery? How long did it take for the incision to stop hurting? How are u feelin?

  5. So as many of you know, I am waiting on RNY gastric bypass. In the meantime alot has happened. I have started my journey as of Jan 13. I found out that switching from Caresource to Molina insurance... I am eligible to have my program cut from 9mos to 6mos. Yay! 3 months sooner. :) I'm so ready for it. We are submitting in june for approval.

In the meantime... my life is a chaotic hell. Many of u know I have been going thru a divorce. Im ok with that. That was my decision. Now I just wish he would find a hobby other than buggin the heck outta me! He calls 50+times a day. Hes driving me up a wall. He wont move on and keeps calling me telling me he loves me and misses me...blah blah blah. But the reality of this is he doesnt miss me...he misses.me supporting his sorry butt. Thats all he misses. Nothing more.

As tho this isnt stressful enough... on March 17th...I got the phone call that my mom (who lives in wv...I live in ohio 2 hrs away) was found slumped over...blue...and unresponsive at her desk at home. So they called a squad and had take. her to the local ER. Ok fine. I go down scared to death of losing my mom. she was intubated and put on full life support in their ICU unit. :(

After a week of watching a bunch of moron drs that honeslty made me ask one dr..."how the hell he even got a license?" I had decided to transfer her to OHIO State University Hospital in the MICU unit. Shes been there for 2.5weeks. She had pneumonia and a copd exacerbation. She was also in kidney failure. So 3weeks later...she now has been placed with a trach on a ventilator. ..full life support and feeding tubes. So on 4/2/14, the drs have said they have done all they can do. And sent her to a "rehabilitation hosp." Up here it s a division of the nurising home with hospice. So that being said...we are just in the waiting to pass phase. :( my heart is broken and I am a total hot ass mess.

I know u are never ready to lose a parent... but I have made peace with whats to come. Im ok with it. It still hurts... but I know shes too sick to keep fighting. Please just say a prayer for me. And for my mother..Kimberly. Thank for all ur love and support.

  7. In the 6 month supervised weight loss plan prior to the surgery date, what is insurance "looking for" ? What if I lose weight and am no longer in the proper BMI range? Is that what they're wanting?

Mu dr told me it is just to see u stay at the same weight. He also said that if I lost anymore weight...that I wouldnt of qualified for surgery. Basically they wanna see u maintain. ...without gainin so they can "prove" surgery is needed based on the no weight loss over that time. Hope that helps

  8. How's it going misty? I read other post and looks like life is rough for you right now. I totally understand. I feel like everyday there is a new challenge to face. This week was putting a beloved pet down, and on the same day finding out my mom has cancer.

This year has been so rough and trying to put myself first with the WLS has been such a challenge. I am doing it though... I didn't turn to food this week to find comfort!! That is huge..

Going through the 6 months process has changed my body but also my habits, not all of them but enough that I can have confidence I can do this journey and it is the right one for me...

I hope you hang in there for yourself and your girls...

They submitted for approval this week too so soon I will hopefully be post op instead of pre op..

Thanks for checking on me. I am doing ok. Found out by switching my insurance co that instead of a 9 month wait...I have a 6 mo program. Im now in my 3rd month. Cant wait for the next 3 to hurry up and pass already!! Lol ...

Things have calmed down around the house. The minute I started trying to learn about myself....things started to fall into place. I am back in school. I have separated from my toxic husband. And filed for divorce. Im anxious for that to be finalized. Even my kids have settled down tremendously.

Life is good waitin! Surgery is gonna be a good thing.

  9. How to Tell Your Friends and Family that You are Having WLS Surgery

One of the things that I have struggled the most with in my pre op journey, is knowing how and when to tell my friends and family that I was going to have gastric bypass surgery. I have been terrified to have this conversation with people because I was afraid of being judged or told that they don't support my decision. We've all heard people say that "it's the easy way out," or that "we could loose the excess weight with diet & exercise," and then of course there are people that will tell us, "you don't need to change because you're fine just the way you are."

Three days ago, I finally told my first friend about my decision, and it was like having a major weight lifted off my chest! I made a video about it at well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIHgcJA3tEs. One down...a dozen more to go and I'm as nervous as can be!!!

Have you shared your secret with a loved one? Have you told your friends that you've decided to take control of your obesity once and for all. Did they offer you encouragement and support, or did they try to talk you out of your decision and act jealous? I'm hoping to gain courage from some of your stories! Please share your experience about telling others about your WLS decision so that we can help inspire and support one another.

I just want u to know .... I totally love all the vids u are doing. Keep makin...I'll keep watchin! :)

  10. Yes I've seen all of them and I love them all actually! They are even more encouraging and helpful after surgery.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and was out on Friday morning. My pain was very managed and the nurses at the hospital are very very nice. One of them that handles weight loss surgery patients had gastric bypass 9 years ago and she'll show you before pictures.

You'll do great! The first couple days are the hardest but the more you walk the better you'll feel. I'd do it all over again tomorrow if I had to!

I finally finished all my classes...:)

..met with Emily, Chris, Pam, and Dr Abbott. LOVED THEM ALL! Cant rave enough about them all. :) great experience. I am sched to see Dr Zee April 10. Then I do my 6 mos of weigh- ins. :) I have only been at this process for 3 mos and already wish it was Sept. Lol

We certainly are blessed to have a great team for sure! What supplements are u using post op? powders? Vitamins? I guess the only thing that worries me is the pain post op. I am a big time wimp amd live in pain with fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy. I cant imagine something else hurting. Lol Thats really my only fears. Did u go tp FMC to recover? How long were u there. Sorry ur the only person I have ever talked to that was Dr. Custars patient. So u wpuld know the exact way things are done. And anything u dont know....I know to ask at my last surgeon appt. :) ty for being so informative. I really do appreciate it.

  11. My surgery went fantastic! He's an absolutely amazing surgeon. I couldn't of picked a better doctor or team to have help me with my journey. :)

Did u see emily, pam, and chris? I love this team. How long were u in the hosp? Did he manage ur pain well? Can u tell im nervous?

  12. I had the body Bugg and now I use a Fitbit flex .the body Bugg was great but with the watch and arm band it cost over $300 plus there was a yearly activation fee. The Fitbit was a Christmas gift but cost only $129 and no yearly fee. I like it very much and very accurate when I had my sleep studies too, Fitbit can do all you foods too and a great friends source if you so choose. Calculates Water, sleep, steps, activate times, cal burned, miles and mine does the time as well!

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Im seriously thinking of switching to the fitbit just because I cant do the body bugg. Its leaving red marks on my arms. Ugh. But at least I tried it. Lol .... more than id have done a yr ago! Lol I just know its not for me. :)

  13. Just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I was grateful to find this app and start to explore and connect with others. I have made the decision to pursue surgery, quit smoking 45 days ago, and have my initial work ups at the end of this month. I take care of others all day long as the owner of a busy practice, time to take some care of me! Can't seem to lose the weight no matter what I try, just wanted to say Aloha and I look forward to connecting with you.

Aloha! I'm misty, and I'm a mom of 6. I chose to have the RNY gastric bypass and I am also still in the beginning stages of my journey! Happy to follow urs as well. :) I can't wait to hear more from u and see how ur doing.

This is so exciting! People choosing to take the time to care themselves.... Just awesome! :)

I look forward to getting to know ya!

  14. So glad to hear you so happy. You've had your fair share of roadblocks and hope from now on you have smooth sailing.

Ty so much for supporting me! I need it more than ya know. Last night my pipes froze, found out after my appt this morning. Then my heater on the pipes to thaw em, caught fire! Thank god it was put right out... It's just never ending here! Lol I just want a calm normal life! Hahaha

But I wouldn't change my crazy chaotic life for anything! Lol

Was so glad I had a great appt and refuse to let life's stumbles get to me! I got this! :) Head up, face forward! Great things to come for sure!!!

  15. So many of u know I have been battling a lot of medical issues.

Since my last posting, I had the bronchoscopy. And they are getting the results of it this week! Yay! I will be happy to hear the results!

Today was my long appt! I went and seen Chris (excersize coach), Emily the dietician, and dr Abbott the psych! And the results are.... I have 90 lbs to lose, by their figures, 100 by mine! And Chis says my state of mind puts him at ease with my excersize. (Already bought a treadmill and body media body Bugg to track my food intake, Fluid, calls burnt, and sleep! Then psych said that I am totally ready for surgery! Yay!!!! All went VERY WELL! I left there feeling like a million bucks! Ty FMC BARIATRIC PROGRAM! THey have been amazing with me and my million questions! Lol

So as of now, Monday is my 3rd class of 4, and I have my monthly weigh ins, (til sept) and a 1 on 1 with the dietician, meet with dr Zee! And then I am over the big hump! I'm totally excited that this is going so fast! :) FMC BARIATRIC PROGRAM also has a monthly support group I am going to join! (Just for more ideas on food, and on life after RNY!)

Guess the old sayin rings true! Good things really do come to those of us who wait!!! :)

    #happygirlhere!

  16. How is everything going misty? Hopefully things feel like they are falling into place.. Things move quicker than you think. I have an upper GI to go and then submission in March to insurance! This has been exciting I started in Sept. 2013 so by time all said and done it will be 8-9 months it is totally worth it.. I am scared of all the changes and getting approved or not, but I do keep the win that I was willing to go for it and the changes I have made now will last no matter the outcome!!!

New update being posted today! :) so glad to hear ur ready!! :)

  17. Misty - I haven't exercised in a month and a half, I'm so close on the BMI and I don't want to count on my comorbids for approval. I haven't decided on a tracker yet although I've heard good things about the fitbit force.

I've heard good things about the fit bit! I am actually thinking of switching to it. I just can't adapt to having a thing around my arm constantly. I'm always adjusting this thing and always moving it causes a lil it to get a lil sore. I just figured I'd see if anyone else had this issue? I'm def going to either have to get something else or figure out a way to keep from it rubbing my arm raw! Lol

  18. Misty, I learned after having pneumonia four times one winter to lay really low when you feel a little run down take care of yourself first.

Ty I'm trying to learn to do just that. Mine seems to be brought on more so by copd exacerbation than anything. But I'm still laying low and if I feel run down, i do lay in bed and try to get extra Vitamins and minerals in me. But it's hard being a single parent. However, I'm learning to get my parents help when I need it. :)
