Kinda cliche' to say this... But my babies are my motivation and man do they do it well!

    My 1st visit with surgeon!

DL, I gotta tell ya... I've never been been so excited about something so great in my life! I haven't shared a lot about my personal self, but here's my personal motivation ... Starting in October of 2013, I got really sick. I have always been an asthmatic but when I got "sick" we found out that I have copd, asthma, and emphysema. They also diagnosed me with interstitial lung disease. They don't have a cause other than my weight and they fact that I have smoked for the last 20+years. But like the drs have told me, it's not the cigarettes that have suddenly brought this on.... It's due to the weight increase in the last 6months that I have gained because of the steroids that they had me on for the asthma flare ups.... Well the weight rose due to steroids, then the breathin got worse, and the next thing I know I'm on oxygen and using a walker! I'm 37 yrs old!!! That's too young for all that nonsense! Needless to say, I'm a fighter for my own health. I have battled many illnesses in my life and I always pull thru them. So that being said I asked my pcp what can I do to make this all change? She told me that the only thing that was going to really give me the tools (since I am already using the gym, and walking daily with my walker 1/2 mile one way, and I'm watching my diet, is going to be me looking at bariatric surgery. She said that it would help me with over eating due to steroids. (I'm constantly starving with em).... So I started y own research and talked to the surgeon, and he told me that this was my only option or I am going to continue to gain! Ugh! No way!!! I don't wanna be the fat mom sitting on the side lines watching my kiddos grow up! I wanna be the mom chasing them on the soccer fields again like I used to!!! So dr custer and I talked yesterday and he said I have a great passion for my health as well as my kiddos, and he can't wait to work with me! I'm so blessed to have a great surgeon!!! Like I told him, I am so into my own health, simply because if I don't take charge of it.... No one else is going to and my babies will grow up with no momma! So it's time to pull my boot straps up, put my big girl panties on, and do this for myself and my kids! I'm so passionate about this .... That I can't put it into words. I just hope it shows as much as I feel it! Look at these 3 (of 6) faces and tell me you couldn't help but be passionate about living .... If for no other reason... THEM!
  6. Really gettin sick of not being able to post in a thread! I have tried to post in the June post op thread and I get the error report! Grrrrrr when will these glitches stop!? It's really getting annoying to be able to post one minute and not the next! Hope they fix this soon!!! I see why people are getting frustrated and leaving. :-/

    December post ops

Welcome aboard!!! I'm still pre-op but always willing to listen and help with anything I may have heard or know. As for the pain in the right side, be very careful and get that checked very soon! That could be the appendix! My brother had what he described as a mild achy ness in his and his appendix were going bad fast! His burst before they got him to surgery. Please just be careful! That scarred me for life! Lol

    The Fat Friend?

I believe that question WAS answered! A real friend would support you and NOT treat someone different for WLS, and a real friend would support her decision reguardless! So to answer her question.... If they're treating u different they're not real friends, was the answer. Yes people in general will treat you differently ... But your real friends WONT!!

    The Fat Friend?

I somehow missed this post! But my thoughts (not that they're important or anything!) but here's what I think! I think you are a complete genius! I love everything you just said! It's true that sometimes we do tend to loosely over use the word friend. I'm guilty of it as well. My best friend Beth, has been in my life or years. She's seen the good, bad, and really ugly divorce, and yet not once was I judged. She knows I am doing WLS, and she is totally supportive! She is making sure I make all my appts by keeping my lil kiddos while I do the appts, she has listened to the endless rants about Protein shakes, and is even keeping the kiddos while I have the surgery. That to me is the REAL friend. She is the one that I call all the and rant or rave to and I never get judged. That's a friend! If we are afraid to tell people that we are having the surgery, then maybe they're more of an associate than a friend. Not that it is a bad thing, but I think it is really important to realize the difference within ourselves. Our friends will support us when others won't. And that is a great thing. However if you don't have that special person in your life, this site is amazing for support! I use both to vent what I'm feeling, my successes, and sometimes to just chatter. I hope this makes sense to just one person! Lol and like I've always said.... If you want a straight shooter to talk to... DL is the perfect person to talk to! He's got tons of experience and knowledge to share!!! Happy Tuesday y'all!!
  15. Your mom sounds like my mom. I haven't told my mom I'm even having RNY cause she's already said.." It's the easy way out and only people that can't do it the right way, do that surgery". So that being said, no reason to sabatoge myself for her to feel good. She is over 400 lbs and won't do a thing about it. If she knows I'm on a diet at 220 lbs, she tells me to shuddup and eat... I'm being an idiot. She has no meaning of support! So that being said.... There are tons of ppl here that will support you in ur journey and everyday life! I have made so many good friends on this site that let me vent about everything! You will love it here! Welcome aboard!!!

    Should I bring my son?

I totally agree! I got sick in Dec and was in the hospital, my best friend brought. My 5. & 7 yr olds up to see me. They "seemed" ok at the time and now when I go to the dr, they ask if I'm coming home and beg me not to be sick. I am still working on getting them to understand that I'm not sick and everyone goes to the dr. I really regret doing that to them for my own selfish reason (missing my babes) and I hope I can prevent any other kid from feeling the anxiety my kids now feel!
  24. When r u thinking Ull have surgery?!?
