How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi, yes I will be self pay. My insurance won't even consider it. I am going with Dr. Clay Wellborn in Little Rock. I have been to one of his seminars and was impressed. He was the first surgeon to do the lapband in Arkansas.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hello everyone, I have finished my research on the lapband and am planning on getting banded hopefully in November. I am so excited. I read your post all the time and I can't wait until I have my band and can join in on your conversations on weight loss amounts. I really enjoy your post. I am 55 years old and don't want to stay obese any longer. My health is not as good as it used to be and I imagine if I don't do something, its only going to get worse. I want to be able to play with the grandkids and work in my yard like I used to. Looking forward to being on the "band" wagon. Brenda :eyebrows:

Hello, I am planning on being banded as soon as I can and plan to use Dr. Wellborn. I have been to one of his seminars and enjoyed it greatly. I could not attend the Walk From Obesity last Saturday but I made a donation and they told me it would count as one of my support group meetings. I am excited about the surgery. I have not actually been in for my first visit yet but hopefully soon.

Here is the truth about the band

I have read all the post, good and negative. There was the one that scared me but I have been able to see that most all of the experiences have been positive. Everyone here seems to be so honest in their feelings and experiences and I do appreciate that. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on for a while now trying to decide if I felt the lapband was right for me. I have also been to a seminar provided by the M.D. I plan to use for my surgery. I want the opportunity to be thinner and healthier and I plan to go for it. I will be self pay but it will certainly be worth it if I can be healthier and thinner.I have pretty severe arthritis and am not able to exercise at this time, so its harder for me to lose.I really enjoy reading all of your post. I feel as if I know some of you even though we have not met. I don't post often but I read them daily. Keep up the good work. :clap2:

Help! I can't get a pic on my signature!

I had the same problem. Try to highlight the picture and cut and paste it with it highlighted rather than trying to get the url cut and pasted. I am hoping that it worked on mine. At least I was able to get the picture under my signature.

Getting banded when you have <100lbs to lose...

Hello <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->mommakatx2<!-- google_ad_section_end --><SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_547534", true); </SCRIPT> I have not been banded yet but plan to in Oct.07 or Nov at the latest. I have about 85-90 pounds to lose. I felt as if I were reading my own post when I read yours. My insurance will not pay one cent so I am going to have to get a loan to pay for it. I have already talked to my regular physician and was afraid he would be less than supportive but to my surprise, he was very supportive. I am anxious to start my journey. I have quite a few things that being obese is not helping. I have asthma, arthritis, high cholesterol &triglicerides. The arthritis has gotten much worse over the past 9 months or so and my rheumatologist told me I have to "lose weight, lose weight, lose weight". So I am planning on getting banded and hopefully put a stop to the weight gain and be healthier.Good luck to you. Hang in there, you will do great.

Claramae, I have not gotten my band yet. I am just in the planning stage but I want to get one as soon as I possibly can. I will be a self pay also. It has really been interesting and I have learned a lot by reading all of these post. I wish you good luck. Let us hear from you. I need to lose 85-90 pounds.

Thanks Crabcake. I hear what you are saying and I plan to go ahead with the surgery just as soon as I can. You all are so uplifting and supportive on this site. I don't know who started this forum but they certainly did a great thing. I will have to stay on and communicate with all of you to inspire me on when I get the surgery.

I sure do understand what you all mean about feeling guilty. I feel terribly guilty about spending the money since I will be self pay. I am just in the planning phase but I already feel guilty about spending the money on me. I know it is a necessary thing since I have failed numerous diets over the past 35 years. I am getting excited about the prospect that I can once again be slimmer and keep it off. I know the band is a tool but it sure sounds like something I could live with. I really enjoy all the post from everyone.

any bandsters in Little Rock, AR?

Hi, I am planning on using Dr. Clay Wellborne. Have you heard anything about him? I have heard good things so far. Nice to hear from you.
  17. Hello everyone, I am seriously thinking of getting banded. I have been thinking about this for about a year. I am finding some really good info on this site. I am looking forward to visiting with others that are ahead of me in this process. I am planning on going to a seminar next week and then planning my consultation with the M.D. Any body else out there that are only planning the banding too? I would love to hear from anyone about their experiences with banding.

Another Newbie Here. Not Banded yet.

Hey, nice to hear from someone else that is planning it like I am. It will be either Dec. 07 or Jan before I get mine too. I am going to a seminar next week. So I plan to get everything going soon. I am excited about it.

any bandsters in Little Rock, AR?

Hi, I am a newbie to this site and am only in the "starting to plan" stage. I really want to have the Lap Band. I live in South Central AR and plan to have my surgery in Little Rock. If you do not mind, may I ask who your surgeon was. Thanks,
