    Banded??? Check in here

Congrats to all the new October bandsters! I'm 19 days post op and starting to eat REAL food again. I have no restriction which is scary and my doc won't do a fill for 3 months post-op. I'm worried that I won't be able to maintain any loss, especially throughout the holidays! As for the protein drinks, I bought some from my doctor it's his own product and he sells it online too...AmazeRX. The strawberry cheesecake is really good and has 17 g of protein per serving. I also like the Boost shakes, I've had many of them through this journey!
  2. My doctor doesn't give fills for 3 months after banding. I have an appointment January 17, 2008! That sounds like FOREVER away! How in the world and I supposed to be able to keep losing with no restriction! I haven't have trouble with anything I've eaten so far. And I feel like I am eating more than what I should be eating to fill me up. I do see that I'm eating less than before but it's still more than I thought I would be able to eat. On one hand I am glad I will get to enjoy the holidays, and all the holiday foods, without having to adjust to a fill but I hate having to wait so long!!
  3. I was banded 10/2 and it feels like my skin in numb in certain areas. Does that make any sense at all? I mean, if I rub my fingers over those spots it "feels" different than other areas. I can especially notice it over my port. Anyone else notice this?? Or am I finally losing my mind, I've suspected it was coming for a while now!

    DFW Area Bandsters

Hi all! I was banded 10/2 by Dr. Carter. I had a tough time after surgery due to the anesthesia but have been good ever since. Well, other than the gas pain! It found it's way into my left shoulder and it was VERY difficult. I can still feel it a little but it's MUCH better! I went in for my post-op this week and I am down 12 pounds since surgery day! Dr. Carter doesn't do fills for 3 months after so I won't get one until January. I just hope I can maintain some loss without a fill!

    first nsv!

    That's fantastic!
  6. I was banded 10/2 and initially had a lot of gas, as expected. It seems like it has moved from being in my chest and back to my left arm and shoulder. It REALLY hurts. I've been feeling great otherwise but this is really painful. When I take a deep breath I can feel it in my shoulder and into my neck. I tried to pick up a glass of Water with my left hand and I could barely hold up the glass. The only reason I can type with my left hand is because my arm and shoulder aren't moving, just my fingers. I've been using a heating pad at night and I took some Tylenol a few minutes ago to see if that would help. I've been off my pain meds since Friday and don't want to take them anymore. Any other suggestions that might help??
  7. I've lost 12 pounds! :whoo: I am so excited! I've tried not to weigh myself much because I didn't know how my scale compared to the doctor so I was happily surprised! My doctor doesn't do fills for 3 months after surgery so I don't go back until January 17th. I know it isn't realistic to lose 6 lbs a week, especially with no restriction, but my mini goal was to lose 20 by Christmas... I think I'll make it!

    post op appointment

Way to go Marcy!! I also had my 2 week check-up today and I'm down 12. I didn't have any pre-op diet so this loss is just from the date of my surgery, 10/2. My doctor said I could start on solids later this week but to take it really slow. His post-op diet is not nearly as restrictive as others I've seen posted. But also he won't give you a fill for 3 months post-op so that may have something to do with it. Sounds like you are doing great, don't be afraid to try new things just take it slow. Keep up the good work!:clap2:

Had 2 week post-op today and....

This 12 pounds is from surgery date, 10/2, to today. My doctor didn't require any pre-op diet at all so I can't count any lost pounds from that! lol!
  10. I had a hernia repair also when I got my band. I didn't even know I had a hernia! It hasn't caused any problems at all. After reading so much on this board I found it's pretty common to have both at the same time. You will do great! Good luck!
  11. Well I am 12 days post-op and even though the gas IS better I still struggle with it. Now I only feel it in my left shoulder and in my neck. And it only seems to bother me at night... weird huh? But it IS better than it was so I have hope it will be gone completely soon!

    We are the TENaciousTENS!

Banded 10/2 and also wondering if I REALLY have a band. I'm feeling good except for a little gas that is still in my shoulder. It seems to only bother me at night. I am now eating soft foods but will admit to having a little chicken this weekend. I made sure to chew really well and it went down fine. I feel like I could eat anything I wanted but I'm doing my best to take it slow. Yesterday I hosted a baby shower with a friend and I can tell today that I did too much. I was on my feet a lot and probably lifted and carried more than I should have. So today I will rest!! So glad to hear everyone is doing well!

    Banded??? Check in here

Today I was really hungry for the first time. Tomorrow I can move on to soft scrambled eggs so I am hoping that will help with the hunger pains! I discovered I really like Cream of Wheat, I don't know that I'd ever had it before this! And a sf pudding is soooo good! So far everything I have eaten has gone down really easily. Too easily maybe. I am worried that since I don't have restriction I will just be eating everything! My doctor doesn't do fills for 3 months post-op so I just hope I can keep with a moderate diet until then.

    Good news UPDATES!

I'm feeling really good! Last night I had some cream Soup and it was sooo good!! The only pain I am having is still a little gas in my shoulder and back. It's totally bearable though. My incisions don't hurt at all, just a little tender when my clothes rub them. I've not been sleeping well at night, not from pain or discomfort though. I don't know what the deal it. I haven't taken any pain meds since Friday so it isn't that. Sounds like everyone is doing great!

Dina - that sounds like gas pains you are having. Mine was in the left chest area and radiated around to my back and shoulder. Try a heating pad and walk, walk, walk!! It will get better!

    Good news UPDATES!

I was banded 10/2 and I feel like a new woman! The first few days were rough but it's been better every day. I am having minimal gas pains now and my port site feels tons better. I'm having problems drinking all the Water I'm supposed to have. I'm just not hungry or thirsty so I have to MAKE myself! I agree with Amy, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel!
  17. How is everyone? I am a TON better today, every day is better than the one before. I am still having some gas pain but it's considerably less and bearable. I haven't needed any pain meds today. Today I noticed more of a discomfort with my incisions. Not pain but achy. I got to switch to soft foods today which was wonderful! I have to force myself to eat though, I am just not that hungry. I forgot to take my Vitamins this week so I got back on track today with my Flintstones! And for you ladies, I started my cycle today.... 3 weeks early! I had read on LBT about that being a possibility and it happened to me. Check in and let us know how you're doing!

    10/2 bandsters check in!

Liz - My doctor wants me to keep up with the protein even once I am back to a regular diet. I will probably try to drink one shake a day in addition to what I'm eating.

    TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!

Janet - If you have someone that can help with your son a few days ask them. I have a 15 month old and if my DH hadn't been around I don't know what I would have done. I was really sore in my abdomen and couldn't have picked her up right at the beginning. Now I am much better, 5 days post, and could pick her up if I needed to. Good luck!

    Day 4, post-op...and I'm craving solids!

Cookielover - I am sooo with you! I want to bite into something! I want to chew something!! I can't have scrambled eggs until day 10, I can't wait and I don't even LIKE eggs!

    Rescheduled again!!

My pain is a LOT better now! I didn't take any pain meds today at all. I haven't had pain from my incisions, just that gas. I've been using a heating pad and walking for that. If you can find one, get a ice bag for your incisions post-op. I have looked at WalMart, Target and Walgreens and wasn't able to find an actual ice bag so I've been using Ziplocks! They work but eventually leak! LOL! I have lost 3.5 lbs since Tuesday AM when I weighed. They didn't weigh me at the hospital so I am just going by my scale at home. If you have any other questions let me know! PM me or just post and I'll find ya!

    Banded??? Check in here

lizziee - I haven't had any fever but did have some nausea when I got home from the hospital. My doc gave me suppositories for the nausea. If you don't have anything like that I would call the office. They wouldn't want you throwing up or heaving with a new band. Hope you feel better!
  24. MistyDTX

Trapped inside! Can't wait to get out 11/29!

Congrats on your decision to be banded! I'm still a newbie, 10/2, but you will find a TON of support and information on this site. Good luck in your journey!

    Rescheduled again!!

I was scheduled 9/25 and got bumped to 10/2. Then the nurse told me it may have to be 10/9 and I LOST IT in the office. I see you are going to Dr. Carter as well... I know he was out of the office the week of 9/25 for "personal reasons" so he may be having a hard time getting caught up. When he came in to see me before surgery he had a neck brace on! He said he'd had a minor neck surgery, must have been those "personal reasons"! One my surgery day was nailed down the time changed 3 times... 2:45 then 1:00 then 10:45. The day of, at about 10:00, the anesthesiologist (I know I spelled that totally wrong!) came in and said they were running late because he had overslept! So my 10:45 became 12:00. All in all I was home by 5pm. You have the right attitude about it...keep your chin up!!
