    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I find it interesting how many people in education who have had this surgery. I had my surgery on December 18th. I went back to work last Monday. The first two days were pretty good but I was only on pureed foods. Now that I have transitioned to 'whole foods' I find it harder to get my fluids in. Has anyone else found it difficult to get all 4 oz in at one meal when eating solids? I take 2-33oz bottles of water every day and try to use that for my shakes in between my meals to get an accurate count of my fluid. My doctor and NUT want me to get 90 oz of fluid and 90 grams of protein. Sounds like everyone else is on much lower rates.

Zone, I am a texture girl too. Try making a slurry with some warm water and the protein isolate and add it to what ur eating. If what I am eating calls for water, I use what I am using for slurry in my total amount.

I tried ground turkey taco meat tonight with some spices and salsa added, couldn't get 4 oz. down. I did manage to get 4 ounces down at lunch, barely, using refried beans and a meatball.
  5. I prefer my doctor's scale over mine so I'm going to wait to weigh myself until I go back there. I know I am losing because my clothes are getting very loose. My surgery was December 18th. I returned to work this past Monday. I feel pretty good but am getting tired of drinking water. I'm adding lemon into it for now. I have started eating solids this past week, but am having a hard time with some foods. I do ok on fish and ground beef, like meatballs, it seems but not chicken or eggs. To get my protein, I am relying on at least two shakes a day, I like EAS protein as well as OhYeah shakes and protein-enriched hot chocolate.

Nikki Are you on all whole foods now? I am just starting the transition from pureed into foods, slowly. I have one out two meals that are whole, then one that is pureed, plus I still have to supplement with shakes it hot chocolate to get in the 90 grams my doctor wants. Do u have suggestions of foods you have used to transition or ones that worked well?

    help!

We buy it online from Bariatric Advantage but there are also some places I can get it close by. So far I have had chocolately chocolate. There is also chocolate raspberry and chocolate mint. I like the mint but haven't had the raspberry yet.

    help!

I love the hot chocolate with protein. It has 12-15 oz of protein per 6oz. I usually do two packets in 12 oz. It really ups my protein.

    Puree Phase

Panera bread lobster bisque sounds delicious! Might have to get some. Baby bel or tiger cheese sounds yummy too. Yeah, new ideas for food.

Have you tried the protein enriched hot chocolate? Some brands have 12-15 g. Per 6 oz. Have you tried Ohyeah shakes? I have moved onto beyond pureed stage but have difficulty getting three oz.of meat of any type in at once. Salmon does work pretty well for me. Remembering to chew and small bites is harder than I thought.

    Hungry

I'm glad someone mentioned trouble with eggs. I thought that would be s go to soft food but I don't tolerate them well at all. I've tried three times, once egg salad pureed and twice omlet cut up. No bueno.

I'm looking for suggestions as I transition from pureed to soft foods. I found out eggs are not my friend. I tried them for the second time. Help

    No carbs ever ? Help

My doctor's office does a nutrition class, separate from our pre-op so they can charge our insurance again, one a month. The nutritionist has told me 3oz. of protein and one oz. of something else power meal once I am on soft foods, 3 meals and protein shakes to get in 90 grams of protein daily plus 90 oz. of fluid.

How do you know if its dumping or a virus?

I am 2 1/2 weeks or and only had a solid BM once. Everything else has been liquid. I do have IBS so I'm not too concerned but wondering when it will stop. I haven't been taking anything for it. Have you found Emergen-C to be okay with all that fixing?

    Starting pureed food

I'm frustrated.....Wednesday will be two weeks post op. I've only lost 5 lbs. My husband had his surgery 2 years ago and he had lost 25 in the first week and was eating real, whole food at 10 days. I see the PA tomorrow. Damn doctor took vacation. I'm just starting pureed foods. Was told no food that need to be chewed until after week 3. It's my body just in starvation mode?

    Clear Liquids

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I had miso soup. I just didn't eat the green stuff and tofu at first.

These are outbursts. I do go to counseling, twice this week alone. It has been a gut-wrenching sobbing. This has been a year of great change for me. This is my second survey in 6 months, the first one being a partial hysterectomy. Between hormones and antidepressants, my emotions are all over the map. I'm 10 days out, not sure when I will be able to eat something other than liquids, frustrated I'm not losing anything.
